- Students entering Maritime College's regiment of cadets are required to go through indoctrination, an intense 10-day orientation period before classes begin. The program familiarizes new students with the college's traditions and life onboard the Training Ship Empire State VI. Most students in the regiment of cadets plan to earn a U.S. Coast Guard license, which qualifies them to work onboard a commercial vessel. The regiment of cadets and Coast Guard license program are not affiliated with the military.

Well said, Ms. McSweeney, et. al.
Do civilian students access the same study program?
Help me understand what learning how to march has to do with maintaining a ship's engines.
Learning how to March establishes many qualities. Learning how to move in cohesion with your colleagues, teamwork, and most importantly discipline. These qualities builds the ability to stay focus while multitasking while working on an engine, attention to details when working on an engine, following orders, policies and procedures when working in an engine.
