I live in Mangalore since 2008. I was born and raised in Chennai. Mangalore is a nice place with people who are well behaved and peace and fun loving. It is an educational hub with a lot of engineering &medical colleges. There are a lot of churches, mosques and temples. People must visit this city at least once in their lifetime.

I hail from Mangalore, India and I’m pleased to see a vlogger visit Mangalore because many Indians too don’t know this place exists. I’m from a small village in Mangalore and I would love to share names of a few amazing places. Mangalore is the most underrated city in India although it is beautiful and has so much to offer. Mangaloreans (born and raised in Mangalore) are welcoming, fun-loving, helpful, educated, and well-behaved . We do have a lot of outsiders residing here as well.
Here is a lenglthy comment to give non-Mangaloreans some insight on places to visit. I’m sure this comment is worth a read.
Mangalore/Mangaluru is a land of exquisite cultures, charms and cuisines. It is an educational hub and has many schools, engineering colleges, medical colleges, hospitals every kilometer ,restaurants, old tiled houses and sea-facing resorts. We have Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains and other religions in this small city celebrating festivals and preparing different cuisines on different occasions. You would come across a lot of beautiful temples, churches, mosques, and so on.
As a Mangalorean who has lived in M’lore for more than 30 years and also travelled to different states, I know for a fact that Mangalore has extremely tasty food, albeit, we haven’t gained much popularity. Many aren’t even aware that there is a city called “Mangalore” and confuse it with Bangalore and we have been busy correcting people ever since! Mangalore is famous for its scrumptious breakfast, ice creams, seafood, toddy, non-veg dishes with homemade masalas especially chicken ghee roast, crab masala/ghee roast, squid ghee roast, prawns & fish tawa/masala fry, chicken sukka, chicken fry/grill, pork chili, pork bafat, along with Neer dosa or boiled rice and yes, not to forget the delicious veg dishes, too.
Now the famous question is what and where to eat???
    Let us begin with breakfast.
For typical Mangalorean breakfast, you may visit Shivbagh cafe (go upstairs to stay away from the chaos), Woodland, Chutney Pure Veg Restaurant, Hotel Janatha Deluxe, or ideal cafe. These are small congested restaurants that serve good breakfast. You can try buns, sheera, masala dosa, poori baaji here or something of your choice. For evening tea-time snacks, you can go to any of the aforementioned places again and try goli baje, banana podi, sweet potato podi, etc.
For Continental & Italian cuisine/English breakfast, I reckon Diesel Cafe wouldn’t disappoint you.
For toddy lovers, Kalivali The Toddy Lounge is the best place situated amidst the coconut trees. A beautiful village you wouldn’t want to miss.
    For lunch, you may visit
Madhuvan's Village restaurant, Shetty lunch home, Maharaja, gajalee, cruise n dine, redrocks, etc. These are restaurants where you can enjoy the ambience and eat/chill for a while.
    or
you can visit places like Machali, Narayana, Macchhi. These are small canteen-like restaurants where you enter, order, eat and leave immediately. Pretty crowded
but we can’t resist the yummy seafood. :)
For desserts/ice creams, visit Pabbas , Natural ice creams or Ideals ice cream. ( All these ice creams were started by Mangaloreans )
For sweets/snacks - google the best rated bakeries.
Vas bakery has good egg puffs and are famous in M’lore,
    Cochin bakery has famous
Banana chips and many other crunchy snacks. The Stairway Bakery & Cafe has some yummy cakes. There are lots of places to visit. Google is your friend here.
For pet friendly restaurant, you must visit K9Restro.
If you love your beer and you are alcohol friendly or want a place to hang out with friends, you may visit ONYX Air Lounge & Kitchen (venue hosts dance nights with DJs), G Lounge, Spindrift, Froth on top , The Liquid lounge, Summer Sands Beach Resort , redrocks etc.
If you are craving for some village vibes, visit river roost resort, the estate resort bar and restaurant, or Guthu House pilikula Heritage village.
If you are famished and want to grab a quick bite late in the evening, you should try chicken shawarma and the grilled chicken from any of the small restaurants. You will find many across the streets. Best option is take-away or eat in the car. Middle eastern food with Mangalorean touch. You can try mixed-fried rice and biryanis, too.
We have good chaat places as well.
For a city that is extremely small, we definitely have a lot going on.
If you didn’t know , we are affable and most of us speak multiple languages. Many know a minimum of 4 languages which are Tulu, Kannada,English, and Hindi. Konkani and Beary are other languages that are widely spoken in this city.
We are very welcoming and our parents would gladly host lunch or dinner for any number of guests. We call it a Mangy thing! :)

@@pathofseekingknowledge9813 Firstly, I’m not your bro! Bro?? LOL Your comment seems to me like you are somebody who was born in the so-called generation Z having zero knowledge. No offense to generation Z kids. I know and have a lot of friends in that age group, too, and not everyone is like this person who is trying to vent out his/her frustration here on a RUclips platform. Well, let me give you some insight. It’s my 30 plus experience in the city that has given me enough knowledge about the city. Apparently, your English seems to be extremely weak. I have clearly stated that Konkani and Beary are other languages that are “widely spoken” in the city. I have never used the word “minority” in my entire comment. A quick reminder to you that you are the only one that has used the word “minority”. My previous comment is a few months old and I have not edited it ever since and I stand by it. Incidentally, you have used a similar word that I have used in my aforementioned comment. The word is “widely”. Are you trying to educate me by using the words that I have already used? LOL :D :D Your attention span and your ability to listen or read seem to be zero. Again, is it the effect of online classes?? SMH. As of now, “Widely” is the word you need to take classes on because you aren’t able to comprehend the meaning. Mangalore has very good schools. I studied in Mangalore. And I reckon you DEFINITELY need to go back to school!!!!!!!! I speak Konkani myself, yet, I don’t try and push my mother tongue so far deep down others throat. It’s a beautiful language just as any other language. Nobody requires your insecure statement to make people believe otherwise. Come back and reply to my comment when you have learnt the meaning of “widely spoken”. I have lived in Mangalore for 30 plus years and the commonly used languages to communicate by people in Mangalore with their customers have always been Tulu, Kannada and English. I don’t go to a shop in M’lore and speak Beary nor do you go to a store in M’lore and speak Konkani. We all use Tulu, Kannada or English to speak to any unknown customer or person. You have so much of hatred in your heart for no apparent reason. I have a lot of Muslim, Hindu, Jain, Sikh and Christian friends and we all speak English when we communicate. You don’t seem to have friends outside your community. Make a few first!!! Have a blessed day and btw, compliments of the season!!!!! :)
N.B. To people that seek good in every comment, there are a few more places I explored this Christmas. There is a place called 24 carat/ Yamuna in Kulai, Mangalore that has very good ambience and food. Also , curry wok at KS Rao road has rich and savoury food. Yay!! Enjoy folks!!!!

You are cent percent right. The only impediment for smaller growth of tourists within and outside the country is 1) lack of cleanliness in almost all cities and semi urban areas. Once we address and improve general infrastructure, tourist arrivals across the country will be much much higher than the present level.

my grandmother's place is 60 km from mangalore towards kundapur...even i haven't seen hasta shilpa something which needs to be explored...thanks for including this as this is not a daily attraction which everyone knows...

Lovely! refreshed a few memories. Another unique thing about that region which I found endlessly fascinating was the use of red stones for outside wall. It gives very Amsterdam type vibe which has the same color for cycle lanes. I guess my rambling isn't making a real point but I just found it really fascinating.

Yes, you’re right. Geologically, Mangalore is made up of iron rich laterite stone, which is quarried for construction locally.

This is an awesome video. It made us (portuguese/ dutch couple) decide to come to Mangalore! So now I need some advice on where to stay, which area of town...i only seem to find very boring business hotels online. Please help us with advice on what to eat, where to stay and what to do!? 😘

This makes me so happy! Have you seen the Avatar hotel? It's a business hotel but it reminded me very much of Parisian boutique hotels. Have fun!

Wow nice you liked Mangaluru. Mangalore University started in 1980 and mine was the first graduate batch studied in St. Mary's College, Shirva, Udupi District from 1980-1983. Liked your video and comments. Thank you.

Thanks for another great video. The beach sunset visit on a Sunday? Yes you must be covered except in Goa it seems lol. Even ankles showing in other states people stare. The buffalo race probably won’t appeal to foreigners. The architecture museum was beautiful

Hashta Shilpa in Manipal, Udupi .. st Mary’s island, Malpe, udupi, Kaup beach.. all the places shown are in Udupi . Mangalore has turned out into another crowded Bangalore. Udupi still has its old charm.

Wow 🤩love the way you've shown Udupi and Mangalore in this clip
But, just to correct you that St. Mary's Island & Kapu Beach are located in the City of Udupi and not in Mangalore 🙂
