  • How fast are the Class 377 trains running between Milton Keynes and East Croydon? Here we sample a train departing Harrow & Wealdstone for Watford Junction.Although the trains are allowed 100mph here, the speed limit drops to 90mph after 3.3 miles and then to 80mph after 4.6 miles. So it appears that as the train was running to time, the driver was happy to stop accelerating at 90mph and then let the train coast down to the lower limits - preventing a full blooded acceleration to the units maximum of 100mph.
These trains built by Bombardier and branded Electrostar reach 60mph in around 54 seconds.

It hit 90 around the 1.55 to 2 minute mark. But the driver stopped also the driver didn't do full power take off. But its pretty good for a 2003 train.
The 357s are ten tons lighter and likely quicker !!

Be cool if you can come to Scotland and do some tests on the newly electrified Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk high line. These currently sport a weird mix of Class 170s, Class 365s, Class 380s and the occasional Class 385. Journey times have significantly improved with electrification but I feel it could be significantly better!

The older class 377s motor make no where near as much noise as the newer 377s
