First thank you for the video. i must correct 1 thing. Once you get the exaust brackets off and u have just insulation left instead of ripping it out. Just take dust shield dow and tug gently on insulation at the same time and it will comeout in one piece.
I can't stress enough how having a lift makes this whole job HUGELY easier and MUCH faster. Working on your back in your driveway makes everything you have to reach up into a total pain for those old enough to drive one of these die-hards, especially if you're on gravel or in a tight garage. A lift affects what tools you use from extensions to lighting. It's fine if you do have a real lift, but with jack stands it's almost unfair to make people think it's nearly as easy as this video shows. I honestly do appreciate this video showing the steps, really, but I think it needs to be said you will be under your Camry all day , if not into the wee hours if you think this job can be done by most DIYers in an hour or 3, not to mention when/if the head pipe studs break, like 2 of mine did. How's about talking about contingencies when bolts starts snappin' off or one is stripped on your 207 year old Toyodal Clamry 2.2l?
There is a gasket for the 97-01 Camry 2.2l. I'm in the process of fixing a RTV gasket leak someone did b/c they didn't use the gasket or leave the sealer in a bead, so you may want to consider either buying a good gasket instead of making one out of sealer or leaving the sealer in a bead. Felpro makes a decent rubberized gasket that doesn't require sealer and is made for imperfect mating surfaces. This is still a great video that shows the whole job head to tail, so I thank you for posting it.
I'm in the process of doing this as well, I have the gasket but I'm debating just using rtv after watching the video and reading in forums about just using rtv. Except instead of spreading it I'm going to leave it in a bead
@Phantom Gaming Did you end up using it in a bead form? I thought about getting the gasket, but I have black RTV lying around. How did this turn out for you?
You have to drop the exhaust pipe just to reach a few bolts on the oil pan! That is an insane design! . I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla, and I'm learning how to change my oil pan gasket, before I do it for real. I am suddenly relieved that I have a Corolla and not a Camry. . And my Corolla oil pan has an actual gasket, which is much easier than dealing with gasket sealer. I bought one for cheap on Ebay Motors.
Same here! Seems like a hassle having to remove so many parts of the exhaust only to replace the oil pan. And the gasket part too!, remember to line it up properly and torque the bolts in a criss cross pattern ;)
Denatured Alcohol works great at removing silicone gasket material from metal surfaces. Use it along with a copper dish scrubber, wear gloves or the alcohol will remove all the moisture from your hands and your fingernails will split at the cuticles.
man u have the best camry guides out there bar none !thx to u im keeping my gfs old camry going ! Also that AT had alot of oil on it too u reckon u had a leaking valve cover gasket?(especially on the backside which is hard to see)
Jeeze, i didnt expect this. Thats a lot of work, with the stupid exhaust in the way :((( not taking anything away from the instructive level of this vid, superb 👍
very helpful good video also i bought some new suspension assembly also got the gasket set for the toyota camry and damn the 1995 is running like champ thanks to the videos.
+jessie morales Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers needs to make this repair, we carry the auto repair part shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them www.1aauto.com/toyota-camry-solara-engine-oil-pan/i/1aeop00057?RUclips&CTA+Comment&VIqEagP9h1w
Great video, just one question; the block foam between the oil pan and transmission ripped apart when I tried to remove it. Im having trouble finding a replacement for it. Maybe i could just stick another piece of foam in there to replace it.
Tip: Watch the video all the way through before you start! Don't remove the insulator by pulling on it as shown at time 7:40. Once you remove the cover of the flywheel, the insulator slides off of the two posts. At time 17:30, he talks about this. Anyone know what the part number for this insulator is? On my 95 coupe, I did not need to disconnect the exhaust pipe to get the pan out. I found it more effective to tap downward on the lip of the pan at the front of the engine with a large pry bar in order to separate it from the engine.
I have a question here. You might know the answer. Is it possible to remove the oil pump housing without removing the oil pan? I think it might be possible to move it enough to get at the bolts holding the oil pickup to the housing. But maybe not. By the way, there is an aftermarket oil pan gasket available. That is what I would use, rather than silcone. Silicone requires the same skills as a cake decorator.
Interesting that it does not need an oil pan gasket, just silicone and that's it!!! My 97 Camry has an oil pan gasket installed and started leaking recently. I'll follow your instructions and use premium silicone on the oil pan flange. Thanks for the informative video 👍
I have a 1998 Toyota Camry and I just changed the oil pan. My guy didnt removed the pipe to get to the pan. This is new for me cuz I saw my guy doing it. Great video though
Hello! Thanks for this. All your videos are very clear and easy to understand. I wonder if you could tell me what SIZE & SPEC are the OIL PAN BOLTS. I know they are 10mm head but I mean THREAD SIZE and LENGTH. THANK YOU in advance!

The car was designed to use the FIPG sealant, not a traditional gasket. The torque settings were specified for the FIPG sealant and are thrown off if you use a cork gasket.
Hey I’m looking under my camry, it’s a 98 and it looks like the dust cover or insulation plate that you called it in the video needs to be replaced. Do you have a part number or a more detailed description of what it is? Thanks
There's a big gear under that thing - i'm guessing the fly wheel to the transmission? Anyway, my camry is a bit dirtier than your beautiful show model! But i'm not sure if i should clean that area up with some brake fluid cleaner, or just leave it alone. Unlike the oil pan, this cover doesn't seem to do much... i might make things worse...
do you guys have a video on replacing timing chain gasket, I just replaced my oil pan and gasket on my 97 toyota camry le 2.2l thanks to you guys , come to find out that wasn't the issue if you guys can help it will be very appreciated
I have a gasket I was told to put in, instead of just the adhesive you spread out, would it be a bad idea to put the gasket and use "the right stuff" to keep them together?
its my car thank you im down to hitting pan with rubber malit not dropping ill keep hitting are there any other trix im going to take oil filter off mybe relece some presure
When I took the tailpipe down and removed the gasket between the two triangular pipes. I accidentally tossed it out thinking I could get a new replacement easily. But it hasn’t been as simple as you’d think. The parts house don’t seem to have the ceramic gasket in the correct diameter. Can your company send me the exact right size that fits inside the two triangle exhaust plates where we removed the stud bolts? Need ASAP!
This is an excellent video, I'll have to do it in a Corolla and it is not as bad engineered as that Camry hahaha. Thanks for uploading Also #Chrisfix'sArmy here: Don't use a metal tool to scrape the gasket on any surface, you could mess it up. Better to use a plastic scraper or a scotch brite abrasive sponge. @@1AAuto so I'm working on the exact same car right actually I'm doing the water pump but I figured fuck it when I'm down there I might as well drop the oil pan and fix the leak would you recommend that I take the skid plate off
Just had one done today. $522. They billed me 3.5 hour's labor. Frankly, I'm glad I had it done. Having a lift makes it a lot easier and doing it on ramps would be a real pain. Great video. Very professional.
It's hard to see from the video, but there was a small crack in the bottom of the pan that was causing a leak. 1aauto.com?RUclips&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
i would hire you as we all know a lot of mechanics will leave bolts in there pockets and do a half ass job and yes i say most mechanics and just to bad for you mechanics that do that kind of shit work because you are shit ya you don't go through life short changing work ethic man just look at this guy a true HONEST mechanic
Toyota makes maintenance so complicated and time consuming with a lot of cursing working upside down on the ground. What's wrong with a single regular gasket? Using this glue will make it more difficult to remove and clean the pan next time. My 2000 V6 Camry is nothing like this, the trans and engine oil pans are located in flip/flop positions.
Tap a plastic putty knife it there to break up the old seal. You could use a metal one or a razor blad if you are very careful not to put scratches/cuts in the metal.

you guys literally make the best "how to" car videos on RUclips. this would've been a shaky, 2 hour, unedited video off some dudes phone.
took me forever to find a video with someone who actually knows what they are talking about great job dude
these guys are legends for doing this
Seriously. I have the 98 Celica, and NO ONE has a video on any maintenance. Thankfully these cars share the same engine.
Best video so far concerning removing and mounting the oil pan on a 5SFE engine! Clear and thorough instructions!

how did you get the rest of the bolts off for the dust cover from the back side of the oil pan? size on those blots?

Don’t use a pry bar you will dent it and loose shape of the sealing. Use a rubber mallet they are like 4$ at autoparts
