Very good video. Three things I did in addition. I sprayed some spray paint into a disposable cup and painted the exposed metal with a Q tip. I then got some rubber flat washers from the plumbing section of the hardware store to use as O ring on the bolt to prevent moisture. Lastly, I used a nylock nut instead of a standard nut in my application.
Great video. I just bought a pair of washouts. One for my Husqvarna & one for my zero turn. You did a great job explaining & I'm glad to see you realized & mentioned NOT to brush off drill chips with your fingers! Many a time I've been guilty of that & paid the price later!😂 also like your Jimmy Buffet shirt & sandles. Adds a nice touch to the video. Also notice you are a Navy man. Thank you for your service & God Bless...
My zero turn I bought used a few years ago has a built-in port but I've never used it because I've never seen it done. Now I can add this to my regular mower maintenance. Thanks so much!
Thank you for taking the time to explain. I just bought a Husqvarna that has a wash port already installed. It also came with a Gardena stop whatchamacallit, dohickey, thingamajigga, whatever it’s called. However, nowhere in the operator’s manual does it explain anything about it. So of course I went to You Tube and your video was the first one to pop up with a Husqvarna in the thumbnail. Thanks again. 🙂
Now if you take your quills off remove the inner seal of the sealed bearings then before reinstailing them and the Shay’s or bolts . Fill them up full of grease a while having them apart drill a place a grease zero were you can get to it easy from the out side on each side of your mower. When you change oil just a couple pumps in each side and your quills will last a long time . Great video you did a great job explaining in detail of the whole reason a placement of the water jets . I’ve had the same problem with the weak breaking metal and then patch after patch a replace and weld the mechanism parts tgat hold it on . Even the neighbors lawn mowers also . Those quills are expensive and the bearings are sealed . My uncle came back from Indiana 40 years ago . He told us how all the steel mill workers were he worked would fix those sqwilling quills . So they wouldn’t a they would last as long as the mower . The main thing he said was not to pump a bunch in them cause that would make the outside seal pop out . If you can keep one from rusting and keep from having to replace those quills you just about will never have to take the deck off . Blades and belts can be changed on most all with out removable. Again great video see your a Vet thanks for your years of service and keeping our country protected your a great man I had 4 uncles that did they taught me to have great respect for our service members so again thanks! 😊
looks like that spot where you mount the washer is raised on an angle maybe to insure it is mounted flat. I do not have this on my Craftsman YS 4500 Mower and not sure if that matters or not..
That is a great idea to mount the sliver piece on top of the mower deck instead of the underside of the.mower deck because of the type of blades that are on the mower deck as in the style of the blade being a low medium lift or a high lift because of the area where the water is coming.out because it will be in the Way of Wing on the blade.which a high lift blade would hit the water outlet if you mount the sliver piece on the underside of the mower deck I have 3 mowers 2 of them are 42 inch cut and a 50 inch craftsman gt tractor Plus have a Husqvarna AWD mower which is already having the mower deck washing system
In saying that, that’s a Australian design the hose connection is the norm in Australia we don’t have screw on hoses everything is hose connectors (quick connectors) as you call it but to save you a bit of pressure get the hose female connectors to have 3 catches not 2
Looks like pot metal or it could have been spot welded to look even better. The water jet is going to hit that bolt if it's low enough. Drill and tap for a 1/2" long short bolt.
Hi Mr. Porta, related to your old aquaponics setup. Air bubble disease - I just learned about it. I remember you had an unexplained fish die off in your aquaponics. And I wonder if the cause could have been air bubble disease. Kind of like a fish version of the scuba diver “bends”. It’s caused by adding air to fish water under pressure. Anyway I thought of you. I’m tinkering with airlift pumps. Cheers.
@@donaldporta But, then the bolt will protrude in to underside of the of the deck and if its too long that will impede the flow into the area under the deck where the grass etc accumulates, [which you're trying to remove]. If you cut off the excess bolt so only the nut and washer protrude inside the deck that might be ok. The 1st fix ie have the head of the bolt only protruding in to the inside deck area is the best option.
Your information is not accurate. That 'embossed' surface on the deck is NOT for the washout port. It's for the leveling of the deck itself. This is why it's labeled "LEVEL" with a decal from the factory. Geeze man.

Couldn’t have put it any better myself 👍🏻

I took my mower deck off of my 14 year old craftsman and was lightly rusted. I was very surprised.
I'm gonna take apart and paint it over winter.
These work much better if you lower the deck right to the ground to make a seal for the air and water.

Glad I could help!
That should be on every mower deck very nice. Thank you for showing us this I never knew about that till now.

Won't the bolt you use get in the way of water jet? Maybe a stubby self tapping screw and no chance of the bolt coming loose and hitting blade.
I installed the bolt upright---only the bolt head is in front of the jet and it sprays over top and misses the bolt.working great!
My thoughts exactly
I strongly recommend you use a nylon lock nut doing this
In saying that, that’s a Australian design the hose connection is the norm in Australia we don’t have screw on hoses everything is hose connectors (quick connectors) as you call it but to save you a bit of pressure get the hose female connectors to have 3 catches not 2
thanks for the tips

that will work, my jets clear the underside with no problem
Use stainless steel for the bolt and washers and a nylon locking nut

cyclone would be the way to go---no bubbling, just increases the surface area of the water
We just did this and after washing turning the mower off disconnected the hose now the mower won't start
I want to do this, but my new mower deck is 10 gauge steel...
Perfect👍
Thank you sir
Welcome
I would have put the bolt on the top and nut on the bottom.
good call!

There goes the rust.
