This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I devoured Crane Wife when it first came out, and even ten years later it still brings tears to my eyes and an ache to my heart. Thank you so much for this, Colin.

Grant Shoemaker way to make me feel old. I remember listening to this song for the first time 10 years ago and has always been one of my favorite all time songs because i heard it at a very emotional time in my life.
Me and my parents love your music! I don't remember a time when your music wasn't playing in our home! I'm 17 now and remember listening to Leslie Anne Levine and Here I Dreamt I was an Architect when I was about 4 or 5! :)
Eleanor Chadd Count yourself lucky. I discovered them on ACL when this album was released. Didn't get into their older stuff til a few years after that. Definitely one of my favorite bands.
Wonderful! I remember reading the story of the Crane Wife (Tsuru no Ongaeshi) in school. Still one of my favorite stories and the 2nd CD I ever bought, I think those 3 songs will always be my favorite of the Decemberists.
The third song I learned on guitar... love the the trilogy (also the KEXP one with Colin is what I listen to while swimming laps)

a great series of songs
Had tickets to last year's Edmonton Folk Fest. Decemberists and Shakey Graves were the reason I bought them. The weather got so windy and rainy that they cancelled both of the shows I had paid for festival tickets to see. Then, this year they announced that both would be coming back.
I couldn't afford tickets this year. So sad. Hopefully you guys will come back some day!
I feel for you. I saw the lead singer (I think it was him) and Shakey at the Winnipeg Folk Festival a few years ago. Does the Edmonton Folk Festival have volunteers? That is how I manage the WFF each year. 3 shifts per festival. Sometimes a shift will even fall before or after the festival. I have driven the Sheepdogs, Barenaked Ladies and Frazey Ford among many others so the shifts are actually kinda cool as well.

@@narcoleptic8982 Sounds great. I volunteer as a driver for the WFF. It is s great job as you get to meet a bunch of performers and music industry reps. Free tickets, free food and a free T-shirt to boot.

Tremendous song suite... This was only ever trumped by the brilliant THE HAZARDS OF LOVE.
Some of the lyrics are different especially on the 2nd one when it talks about weaving. I can't find these lyrics but also, how can this video be on RUclips this long and no one has posted the lyrics in the comments?
