Agreed. She makes it look so easy, I feel like I could do the same choreography with a year or two of lessons. (I know enough about ballet to realize that I could never dance that well, but the point is, she makes it look that simple.)
You can still dance even with scoliosis actually, depending of course on the degree of scoliosis you have. Mine is 19 degrees upper thoracic area. The doctor told me not to stop ballet because it actually helps in maintaining the flexibility of the spine.
She really is a true artist. There is so much physical exertion and difficulty, and so much effort goes purely into preparing the variation, but she added artistic expressiveness on top of all that, and her gestures were so elegant and tender. I am truly grateful to have seen this performance. She truly deserved the prize. Congratulations!
This is the first ballet performance I've genuinely enjoyed. Everything about it is so charming and cute. Love the way she holds her skirt hem, and her costume in general.
Seems like the best ballet dancers are the one's where their flow, vivacity and grace completely distracts you from their flawless athleticism. When I look at a swan, I want to notice their serenity not the mad paddling underneath to stay afloat. This girl has that talent. She has it all.
@Compulsive Winner Back in the day, being tall was a widely considered a disqualifying trait for female dancers. It's different now, of course, but that's probably what OP was referring to. And having "good legs" has less to do with height and more to do with proportions. Lots of us tall folk have very short, heavy legs. All we can do is play the hand we're dealt. 🤷
just so you know, my friend knows the girl who won the prix a few years back, and she cant find a job after applying to over 50 schools. welcome to the ballet world. :(
nuala macmillan That’s so sad :( my second cousin danced for the National Ballet in China...a harsh life. Now she teaches ballet but has a very comfortable life. It must be so hard doing something that requires so much discipline and then transitioning out of it
She is just sooooo good for her age, and her point work are excellent and that she is standing on point are wonderful!!! And her beautiful smile and dress are "awesome" !!💞
I love Giselle, and she was amazing. This child will do great things. Thank you for uploading this and let us appreciate her hard work. :) She also looked so happy. I'm happy for her. :)
One word - effortless. If there is anything that differentiates the absolute best from everyone else, it’s their ability to make their craft look absolutely effortless.
So beautiful in many ways, the flow of her moves was flawless. And can we talk about that dress? It was perfect for the piece, visually stunning as the skirt floated as she moved. Gosh I’d love to own a dress like that.
I was watching Miko Fogarty's Giselle and this was recommended to me by YT. I love Miko's version more but Zhang's class and elegance are showing signs of true artistry! She is def. an artist to watch!
After Miko Fogarty's stunning performance back in 2013 at Moscow IBC, it is first time that i literally enjoyed from Giselle variation in some competition. So elegant, pure and effortless. And of course beautiful dress choice 💜
When the music started i immediately thought about how she would have to do the hopps wich are extremely difficult on point and it is astonishing how she can do them so effortlessly.
She managed to make the choreography the way is supposed to look: effortless
...and this comment is coming from....”Le Awkward Gal.” 😂 hahahahahaha!
She made it look as effortless as if she was just a little girl improvising in her room. Incredible.
Agreed. She makes it look so easy, I feel like I could do the same choreography with a year or two of lessons. (I know enough about ballet to realize that I could never dance that well, but the point is, she makes it look that simple.)
But for me is kind of obvious that it doesn’t look effortless at all...
The beat on the jump just before she starts the hops is so clean! And the costume choice makes her look even more like she is floating through this :)
JaiMelancholia Agreed!
Id like to see a parody of a hard routine and the ballerina just cursing and yelling in pain during the whole thing
Miss Difficulty that would be so funny
OMG those hops on pointe are so so stunning!
cloudbuffair _ as someone with a history of ankle fractures and sprains, it amazed me and simultaneously made my ankles hurt lol
And that LOOK she gives half way thru 😏 lol GIRL GET IT

Can you explain why? I'm interested to know

The pirouettes! Her lines! Not a hitch in sight.
Amara Jordan what's a hitch?
MissDuke2012 a hitch is a problem of sorts
leah no it’s a tool you use for making things
air maxy it may be, but in the context of the comment the hitch they are talking abt is “a temporary interruption or problem”
1:10 - She did a double pirouette in both directions, very rare to see that. Beautiful performance
Very lovely, like a flower dancing, beautiful use of her dress.
Tough routine physically. Keeping that smile going while ur feet are screaming. Very elegant execution.
She looks like she is floating on air, just beautiful! Those hops while on pointe were amazing! 💖🌼🦋

Enchanting, so polished for one so young.

If only I'd been 6 inches shorter, and didn't have scoliosis....This could have been me.....right.
Diane Greene I have 41° scoliosis and I dance :) don’t give up your dreams!
Ummm....
Diane Greene literally same i used to dance but i got an operation and lost all flexibility in my back

Couldn't be you because you are a different person than her. Don't compare yourself with other people. Just find your own way
One Look at the thumbnail, and you know exactly it's Giselle. :') such a good performance for someone as old as me! So talented.
How old is she?

Her phrasing and extensions are so musical and beautiful

I've seen this variation SOO many times and it never gets old. She did fantastic!
Wow ... she had me imaging she's dancing in a room full of people though alone ... a major feat. Beautiful control and expression all the way around.
Absolutely gorgeous performance! Lithful, graceful, energetic and her beautifully flowing dress just made all of her dancing qualities impeccable!
She is just sooooo good for her age, and her point work are excellent and that she is standing on point are wonderful!!! And her beautiful smile and dress are "awesome" !!💞
This girl has gained a new lifelong fan from this performance alone!

Hello. I see this in my RUclips suggestions. Wonderful. And the hops across the stage are phenomenal. Thank you for posting. :)
One word - effortless. If there is anything that differentiates the absolute best from everyone else, it’s their ability to make their craft look absolutely effortless.
Years of sweat and tears and hard work behind this beautiful dance 💃 respect
oh my GOD her lines are so pretty 🥺🥺

I wish I was this graceful. When I tried out of Giselle I kept falling but she did an even more complicated version better!
so much grace, and very smooth transitions.
Lovely, amazing, congratulations Zhang Lin
She is wonderful ❤
Everything was beautiful but I loved the way she smiled before she went on, to me it seemed real. Like she was excited to go out and dance.
That's how it seemed to me too! She was a real Giselle.
she’s literally perfect
Those beautiful graceful arms and hands...a joy to watch!
So strong and so delicate what a combination!
I was watching Miko Fogarty's Giselle and this was recommended to me by YT. I love Miko's version more but Zhang's class and elegance are showing signs of true artistry! She is def. an artist to watch!
I'm not a dancer of any sort but I can't stop watching this performance. So beautiful!

Très beau. Merci
Omg this is beautiful! She looks like a little cloud floating around :)
Phenomenal! Is she from an unknown planet! Thanks for making a journey to Lausanne and dancing.
one of my favorites performances at prix❤️
Either this girl is having the time of her life, or she is the best actor any of us have ever seen.
Absolutely beautiful!
Amazingly elegant and strong. Those hops! Wow!
I mean just wow I'm inspired by her and those hops en pointe!AMAZING
That skirt is so ethereal and light😍
Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.
I always love the costume design for girls doing Giselle, they're always so simple yet elegant and lovely.
ジゼルの衣装もとても似合いますよね🎵そして躍りも上手
HER ARCH ALSBISHSEBR her knees, her pirouettes, her 5th position, her arabesque ON POINT like everything was just amazing
Brava! Mesmerizing and enchanting performance!
When she twirls, her pointe in perfect and her dress is beautiful!
How many times have we watched this solo performed by others? This is THE BEST interpretation so far. Her timing and musicality and joy is perfect.
Absolutely stunning!
발레리나는 잘하는 것은 기본이고 이 분은 발레리나로서의 매력을 타고났네요!
Wow, she is just amazing.
that dress tho, absolutely mesmerizing
She's so perfect! Wow!🌹🌻
When the music started i immediately thought about how she would have to do the hopps wich are extremely difficult on point and it is astonishing how she can do them so effortlessly.
Omg this is so beautiful!!!
This was so pleasing to watch.
wow ,she dances like air flows
Wow! Absolutely beautiful!
Her 1:25 step is the most articulate and defined amongst others that I have seen :)
1:25. Wow I can’t even do half of that without being shaky and having to come down to Demi pointe
How amazing!!
Quelle pure petite merveille !
Amazing Lin Zhang you are a white flower dancing! Brava Giselle.
she is so lovely!
Full. Body. Goosebumps. Damn she's GOOD good
