Exactly What's Wrong With Everyone's Morality: The Mark Series pt 49 (

  • Jesus, save us from modern morals! Actually, that's pretty much what He does when a scribe asks Him to tell us the most important command in the Law. Jesus brilliantly and simply sums up not only the Law of Moses but the moral duty of mankind with two simple statements. Love God with all and above all and love others as yourself. Our job is to let this truth invade all our moral reasoning and to make sure we don't turn it into a cliché and rob it of it's beauty and life changing results. The way this truth saves us from modern morality is by installing love of God above love of self or others. Yeah, that's the part everyone gets wrong. But Jesus sets us right. To me, one of the most remarkable things about all this is that love and relationship is at the heart of the moral purpose of mankind. We exist for love. We literally have love as our highest and constant moral duty toward God and others. Wow. I'm literally blown away by this but how could it be any different? After all, God IS love. Let that sink in.
Man, I LOVE this study through Mark! This is part 49, see the WHOLE Gospel of Mark playlist here • The Gospel of Mark Ser...

Mike, I was in ministry from high school till becoming a stay at home mom. At some point I was aware that I had too many compromises in my life regarding how I process scripture, but was having a hard time reconciling them inside myself and was praying for guidance. With pregnancy #4, I became so sick I stayed in bed A LOT and stumbled across your content and now my baby is over a year old. God has worked in my heart through the things you've publish on RUclips and I am so grateful that He has somehow maneuvered you into this position where you reach so many people with such a pure message in a way that glorifies HIM instead of you. I know you are too busy to respond to all the things, but I hope you know that you have transformed lives and that your heart is prayed for. I wish I could ask your council on things in this strange time of not having a church body to attend. You have become like a friend to my husband and myself even though we live on separate hemispheres. And this message has come when I needed it the most. Thank you

My mother was very smart Had a year of a business degree
She made the the wise decision to be a stay At home mom
Because her children were much more important to her than any career
And she was a great mother and I would hate to think what line it was no sacrifice to her it was a commitment to be a family unit which is The basic structure which keeps this country strong
Butthat and no way kept Her from being very involved with the church and they have a family unit prospers when we serve the Lord
She was a Sunday school teacher
She was very active and helping others.
When we all grew up and we’re on our own my dad retired from his body and fender Business she basically took over the business aspect of the business but she also kept her strong Christian faith and she would you go out of her way even miles and miles to help others.
If anyone thinks that a stay at home mom not important they are truly missing the fantastic and great importance A stay at home mom. Some people sort think somehow they are being weak when actually they are being strong. Probably the hardest job in the whole world
My mother and my father are now passed away but I will be eternally grateful to them or what they did for me and the sacrifices both of them made for myself and my brothers and sisters and most importantly they were both Christians and God always provided.
I would just say never but one moment ever think that the road and the road that you chose is the wrong road it is the best road
      Thank God for her
And the non-stay at home mother actually Leave children to their own device Income and I get into trouble.
May God bless you and your family and never ever think that stay at home moms are somehow less important as they are actually the backbone of our country.

So, what's wrong with Leviticus 25:46's somewhat blaze morality, which was apparently not clear enough that non Hebrew children would always be released from 'contract', and still had effects up until 1800 AD?
Also, did Adam KNOW the Stewardship of Earth was something he could transfer to Satan, or not?

    • @patrickambler749
      @patrickambler749 4 года назад

@@chrissonofpear1384 hi. Your first question isn't very clear; I'm not sure what your asking. Also, did you mean to direct that at me or Pastor Mike?
As far as what Adam knew or didn't know, we only have what was written to go off of and meditate on. Speculation isn't the best tool when in the pursuit of truth. However, from what was written you could derive that Adam may not have fully grasped his position in creation. He didn't have the "knowledge" of good and bad. I suppose it's like telling a child not to touch a stove because it is hot. They haven't yet experienced being burnt and everything that goes with it, so they don't really understand or have "knowledge" (דּעת) of what that is like. They can only decide to believe the parent who instructed them or not.
So whether it's eating a fruit or losing a stewardship, I don't think Adam fully realized how bad "bad" was until he touched the stove.
      Genesis 3v7 NKJV
[7] Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

@@patrickambler749 So, can we find out? Because they were 'choosing' for a lot more than just TWO people here, and altered the nature and consciousness of all their descendants. That sets major contextual parameters for - free will.
Also, when did Satan first get access to the lower material realm that included Earth - or Eden?

    • @patrickambler749
      @patrickambler749 4 года назад +2

@@chrissonofpear1384 I think that's actually a great realization. That we are tied to our descendants and bear a responsibility for their wellbeing. There is a scripture that talks about this in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 v 22
"For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive."
There is this driving narrative in the Bible that we are not independent of each other, and definitely not our God. We inherited the repercussions of Adams actions, but those who are "born again" by Christ inherit the positive repercussions of His actions, namely eternal life and restored relationship with God; what Adam was created and intended to be.
A desire for autonomous independence seems to be the driving force behind man's constant failure. The truth of creation is that we will never be without authority over us. We have a Creator and He is Master of us all.
Even life shows us that. We are born to parents who have authority over us, we go to schools with teachers as authority over us, we get jobs with employers who have authority over us, we are subject to laws established by our governments that have authority over us, etc...
That probably ties into the first question you asked a bit.
I think that when Satan gained access to the hearts and minds of men, he gained access to the stewardship of the world. It's not that God has determined to pass satan the baton, it was still in the hands of men. satan just had men in chains; made them his servants through sin. So he controlled what they control.
      John 8v34-36 NKJV
[34] Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. [35] And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. [36] Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
All of creation is God's house. Understanding God from the perspective of Him as the Father really helps to put everything in it's proper context when viewing God's interactions with mankind in the Bible.

I've subbed to you. Love this video my Christian friend sent to me. Her and I are still learning Christians of Christian faith. I have been Christian for 4 to 5 years now since my AVM, hence my username. I always believed in God but before my incident I always ran with the wrong crowd, running from God thinking everything is okay when clearly things were not in my life or relationship with God. On a path of destruction, I eventually fell into deep despair and ran to sin. I had my AVM and was quite literally saved physically and then was saved spiritually. I began to fix my life and fix myself most importantly. Then fixing my eyes upon the Lord. I began going to a church and didn't go anymore due to the church becoming corrupt, so I continued to walk with Christ. I talked to him on my walks, gave him my anxieties my problems and troubles and he has fixed everything in my life within his time. Yes, most of my prayers have been answered and I thank him. But Gods plan is not the plan in your mind as I try to plan out my life out. In life I saw it as a straight run, but Gods plan for me has been ups and downs and I still love him, I still talk to him, I still pray to him. Hope your RUclips career goes great!

We naturally 'love ourselves' and, without the LORD influencing us, we structure our interactions and life for the benefit of ourselves. Sin is not 'lack of love' - but rather - a deep, pervasive, LOVE OF SELF. As the serpent said in the garden "your eyes will be opened and you will be like God" Gen 3:5. Suddenly, each human being became the center of their own universe and the supreme motive "it's all about me" came to the forefront. We now 'inherited' (for lack of a better term) and are blind to the fact that we desire to claim the right to decide what is right and wrong. "That person treated me this way, therefore I have a right to treat them thus" - we do it all the time without realizing it. We truly have our self love driving our motives. We can justify all our actions because we claim the right to decide what is good and what isn't. Justification born out of our love of self.

It really frustrates me because I don’t know how to make myself have the type of love Jesus commands. But in the end of the video when you offered words of
encouragement for those of us in need of God’s help, it really caused me to get up off the ground and look towards God. Thank you brother….I really struggle with this. It’s easy to feel hopeless and far away from God when you don’t feel within yourself the love we are told we are supposed to exhibit.

My paid job is serving God. All my down time-and I do mean all- is spent learning about God. I was very dissatisfied before I watched this because I thought that I was just lazy because in in my downtime I wasn't busy serving Him more but was choosing to watch RUclips videos about the Word. After watching this I see that I can be satisfied in that I do love Him; that my purpose is fulfilled in loving Him, even when I'm watching RUclips videos about Him. I was truly tortured before I watched this so thank you, Mike. Now I have actual peace. I'm actually crying.
Will I love God enough ever? No. It's impossible. But at least I know that I'm on the right track & don't have to berate myself for not loving Him in the ways I thought that were required. If dying people who can't be productive can have peace because their purpose is fulfilled as they simply love Him then surely I can have peace that I'm also fulfilled in loving Him even though I will always want to love Him more and do more to serve Him from that love. It never seems to be enough; there's always that tension to do more. But I'm relatively new, coming from Jewish atheism & don't yet really grasp the grace of God.

So incredibly blessed by this. I am one of those nerdy Christians who constantly finds more layers to the meaning of God's word. Probably one of the most popular examples of this is Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart" He literally gives us the desires themselves and fulfills them with His very presence. This whole message reminded me of 1 John 5:3, His commands are not burdensome to those who bathe in gratitude for the goodness of the Commander Himself.

I'm so thankful for this video. I feel like God used it to show me that I wasn't loving him with all my heart and mind and soul and strength...so at almost 2 in the morning, there I was on my knees telling God I submit everything to him, my finances, my time, my entertainment, my mouth EVERYTHING and just confessing my sin of holding anything back from him. It's so amazing how God will always keep reaching out to us and showing us the way to him. I didn't realize that to know him more, I have to submit fully. Especially if I want to learn to know his voice, I need to heed what I already know he has said to me and be obedient to that. Thank you for sharing the truth. I've been hearing so many different ways that I need to give EVERYTHING to him and not just most.

As usual, great insight, Mike. Many times I have been told that my love for people is the sole way I show my love for God, and so I was always a bit confused as to the difference between the two greatest commandments. Why would Jesus give these two if they both equate to the same thing? Your teaching has clarified that loving people is simply one of many ways we demonstrate our love for our God, and that at times what we perceive as “love” for others can actually be at odds with the first and greatest commandment.

@@graftme3168 Thank you for your reply, Graft. I grew up in "Easy-believism", so rules meant nothing and this definitely negatively impacted my relationship with Christ. Reading God's rules are different, though, and this is where the disconnect is for me. I get that some people grow up in churches where others dictate rules, but reading the Bible leads to a different understanding. Maybe this is why I have that disconnect: starting off with rules not being important didn't result in my thinking God had strict rules, so when I finally read the Bible, I only saw the good in those rules.
No doubt others have had worse experiences in church. Hopefully Jesus will heal the damage others have done. It sounds like you were led to the truth of who God is and how He'd like us to be. God bless you!

I spoke about this with my unbelieving husband lately, and it appeared to make him reflective.
Great lesson, and something we should be remembered of repeatedly!
I have often thought that our sin is a result of self-love; when, in this moment when we make the decision to sin, we put ourselves first, not God.
If we would ALWAYS put Him first, in every decision we make, we would almost never sin, only due to lack of understanding in some instances.
Unfortunately, we will never be able to do this due to our sinful nature.
However, to hear it, e. g. from you, meditate on it, and remind ourselves on a regular, ideally daily - or even more than daily basis - is definitely helpful, and should reduce our sins substantially.
Before I was a reborn Christian, when suicidal ideations came up in the framework of my job, it brought me to reflect that I would ALWAYS choose to endure pain, no matter how bad and intense it is, before I would ever contemplate suicide, because I would never be able to do this to my parents. In other words: I would always choose to sacrifice myself - which sounds a bit counter-intuitive in this case, as it entails NOT committing suicide - over causing pain for my parents.
I never had a reason to even remotely have anything close to suicidal ideations, but this was just a theoretic reflection.
Now, considering how much more we are to love our Lord, and the fact that I do love Him more than anything, it should be understood that I should never sin.
It's just my weaknesses which make me do it.
This was extremely helpful to hear this from you, and be reminded to daily meditate on the importance of our love for God.
    Thank you, Mike.
    God bless!

When you said “I may have had good intentions, but I didn’t really love them very well” it gave me a cool thought. Most people say I love you so MUCH, as if love is a quantity of something that you can possess. But when you say I love you so WELL, is shows that love is an action, it’s something that we DO, not HAVE. When John 3:16 says “for God so loved the world THAT He gave his one and only son…” it really isn’t saying that God loved is, therefore he gave us Jesus. It’s saying that God loved us by giving us his son. Am I on to something?
