Nice, worked!
Tried to go through options when in Save As mode, box was already unticked.
Then two finger click (Mac) and click Get info, down the bottom click Share&Pemisions and change to Read and Write ALL.

Great video, accept not correct for more current versions of Excel. I have a read only file and when follow steps to properties, the read only tick box in NOT ticked - so can't untick. Not sure if this will help anyone, but in my case the problem was that I moved one of the add ins I use to a different folder. As soon as I moved it back to the original folder read only disappeared.

I am having two problems combined into one file. If I saved my file anywhere other than under my user account it would be read only next time I open it. And chances are I had to open a new excel to copy and paste(In some cases this would be impossible to finish) and redo again and make sure I don't save in anywhere else other than a user account. The other thing is something I created and then I end up have zero permission to save in any folder I wish other than user again. So I had to remove the save only and the permission problem too.

Other possibility is that this has nothing to do with attributes at all, and the document has been "marked as final". In the bottom left corner, where you see "ready" is there an icon next to it like a document with a rubber stamp being hit on it? If so, this is marked as final, as you will see when you hover on that icon. Go to Office button > Prepare > Unselect "Mark as final" Document will now be editable and saveable
