You know Lance a lot of channels would not have shown the struggle first ice can be. Thank you for being a real fisherman and keeping it real. For me watching someone that only video the biggest or most desirable is just not real. Thank you for being you.

We had high hopes of getting on a great first ice bite and it just didn't happen. What did happen is Niki and I had an fun weekend exploring new lakes that were beautiful and quiet. It was a memorable experience despite the slow bite.

That's right! I have such high hopes heading out on first ice and then it's a grind and makes us humble. It's a good thing.

Glad you two had a good adventure! I just talked with one of the guys from the American Legion that my dad belongs to. He told me he's headed up to Phillips, Wi. on Monday. He seemed confident there would be good ice awaiting him. I hope he's right.

Thank you! Northern lakes have pretty good ice thicknesses considering how warm it’s been. A few backwaters around here are even getting fishable ice.

@@AnglerX I think a big change is coming around the New Year. The warmer waters off the South American coast have been shifting to the west and that should get us into a Modoki El Nino. This usually produces a "real" winter. The winters of 2009-2010 and 2014-2015 are recent examples.

It can be hard first ice, lots of spooky fish.
I’m headed up there tomorrow. There is a crust of now on the lakes now.
Hopefully can pull something out of the crappie lake.

That was my best explanation as to why the bite was tough. Super clear ice and water was probably leading to fish scattering everywhere we walked. Thinking back to other years that I've done well early ice there was always a little bit of snow on the ice which helped.
