    This was great; an enjoyable change of pace. After seeing the equipment/setups, it made me think of suggesting having an "old school fishing challenge" for panfish, bass, and pike. All anyone can use is tackle/equipment from 60s/70s e.g., a 3ft fiberglass panfish rods with the plastic reels, the old wood folding tip ups, a spud or manual auger etc; and no electronics [except a Go-pro]-just the lead clip-on depth finders. Take Jacob and 2-3 other friends and see what happens-maybe tweet out a challenge to other channels with a fish/steak dinner, or a rod/reel to the victor. Just a thought to make things fun and a bit more challenging. Thanks Matt. God bless.

    Howdy Matt. I understand your responsibilities at home, but have you ever thought of taking a road trip south to Kentucky or Missouri in the Spring. There appears to be a lot of decent Smallmouth rivers and lakes down there. The earlier start to the season could give you some new videos way ahead of your normal season. I would bet some of the local guides would be happy to swap their time for some of yours during the northern summer.

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  Год назад

      I’d like to head south and escape the cold for a while but yeah it’s tough trying to take off for a week or two at a time with a two year old at home. That’s one of the tough parts of being this far north and trying to do RUclips fishing videos for a living though, it’s about a six month window where the ad rates go up for summer outdoors type videos and getting new footage the first couple months of that stretch can be tough if not impossible here when we’re waiting for ice to come off the lakes and the rivers are going through their spring flood season. I always try to hold on to a half dozen or so videos from the past summer to try to jump start my channel back to life before I can get out much again. It would be nice to get out and explore and fish some new places though, try for some monster bass down south somewhere or maybe fish some redfish or something instead of staring down a hole in the ice!

      Wow. That's nuts. My stepson lives up by Cass Lake and was saying they aren't on the ice yet.

    Im jealous. I live in northern Illinois, we were just starting to get ice but now its been atleast 40 degrees for 2 days in a row

      We have a couple 40-45 degree days in the forecast for next week but it still gets down below freezing over night. I don’t think it will have a whole lot of impact on the ice once there’s several inches.

    Nice video as usual! What leader are you using? I'm not targetting pike but I don't want to keep getting cut off in pike infested water

    Great video as always. Youve inspired me to start a channel. My question is how do you record a day of fishing. Do you record until your battery dies or turn it on and off through the day

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  Год назад

      When ice fishing I have my audio recorder buried under a few layers of clothes so I film until the GoPro dies then reset them both. Open water I go for 10-15 minute clips and reset.

    Great video Matt. Do you notice a significant difference between 20 and 30# fluorocarbon leaders? I do in gin clear waters, but it's always just dicey

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  Год назад +1

      I’ve only tried 20lb for this type of live bait setup. Anything heavier and it might not hang straight down with something as light as a minnow and will be more noticeable to fish with a rig sitting still.

      @@ndyakangler I run 40# Seaguar fairly often but mainly in murky rivers, but in clear Waters it definitely gets bit less for live bait setups. I find it to be perfect for lures though. For ice fishing though especially I hate going above 30 definitely. Was mainly just curious if you'd experimented at all. Pike are pretty dumb, but I find they can get wise - especially around Chicago as they see so much pressure. Cheers dude

    Здравствуйте. Интересно какой диаметр лунки? Если бы побольше был бы легче было бы заводить рыбу в лунку. И рыба у вас крупная. Ещё интересно что за узел у вас на удочке достаточно далеко от крючка? Неужели такой длинный лидер?

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  Год назад

      The hole diameter is 8 inches. It’s a converted hand auger to run off a drill and usually 8” is as big as you can go with that. The drill I have is a Milwaukee mud mixer, it’s more powerful than a typical drill and could definitely push a bigger auger but from what I’ve seen if you want a 10” or 12” you have to buy a dedicated ice auger. I like my setup because it’s light weight, although a lot of the newer electric augers coming recently are comparable. I wouldn’t mind a 10” hole for some of those bigger fish!
      The knots I use are a Palomar at the hook and an Albright to tie the braid to the fluoro leader. Tying in that order you can get the leader the exact length you want by adjusting the fluoro at the Albright, I usually kink it before tying so I know where I want it to end. I’ll usually go 18” or so on the leader.
