or how lamest jokes can be funny when you're confined to a boring situation, i personally enjoy work more than reading. For me reading is like the highest form of meditation i can do atm with so many distractions.
Boredom helped me most of my bad habits to discover self development and see unimaginable success but it took 7-8 years. So greatful to boredom. Stay Uncommon!
A lot of this video reminds me of my experiences trying to handle my unmedicated ADHD, which revolves around trying to be more sensitive to finding things rewarding by avoiding things that flood me with dopamine. The likes of videogames or masturbation are the death of productivity for me and seem to affect me a lot more intensely than they do other people. It's only by actively creating an atmosphere that would be extremely condusive to boredom do I manage to dial into enjoying more delayed gratification, creative, growth activities.
Meditation, reading and working out all have very positive benefits. I do all 3. If I’m on my phone too long I either put it in a lock box or turn it to black and white mode.
This is got to be the best video ive seen which explains how to not make everything fun. And it surprises me that this channel has not yet blown up. Keep up the great work!
I have this moment when I wake up in the morning and just have a moment to stare at nothingness.. thoughts just surging in my head and a lot of ideas, right there in the moments of doing nothing before I actually start my day.. Sometimes I write down those idea but they just vanish right away by some diversion in the environment like,.. ( Mom’s calling, shouting.. unnecessary sounds. Knocks etc ) I get easily bored as well, I really hate my job 🙉
I think writing down the ideas helps a lot. It kinda gives them out of your brain. Also, in zen buddism, it says that if you "like" something, it means that you must hate the opposite. So if you hate your job, it means that you must love the opposite. Maybe try to dive deep into the opposite and see if you can make a living out of it. idk, it's just my opinion.
Sir HC Verma has shared a similar experience in one of his interviews. He said, one day he was locked with a science notebook in his room. He sat around for minutes and when he felt really bored, he picked the book up and began reading it. That day he understood all the concepts very well and around was the time when his interest rose up in studying. Another one is my case. Recently when I was in the middle of my final exams, I finished two books of Harry Potter meanwhile in normal days, reading felt like a burden. These examples go with your explanation - fun is relative. When I had to choose between studying chemistry or reading Harry Potter, I went with the latter. Similarly, the key to making yourself do hard things is to get so bored that you are left with no better choice that to do that hard thing. Another way would be to do something productive that is more fun than the unproductive habit you were following earlier.
bro! bro! bro! this is like maybe a 50th video of self development i watched and it was so good. The choice of music, illustrations, explanation, obviously the content and everything was so so good. And the best part according to me was writing down tasks based on boredom level and how then we can arrange them in our day, that was so obvious and so ignored. Hats off to the content and your efforts Wish you luck for your future and everyone watching this Thank you for such content
Wow! So beautifully explained, I watched the full video without skipping a second. Great video and production quality. Just keep working on such content. I am sure this channel will blast off to reach heights! All the very best buddy 🙌🏼
i never comment on videos. But this small video inspired me so much. Thank you asian guy for helping me out. I think this way i would be able to cure my adhd
I want to thank you for this amazing video! I've been digging into Taoism and how fascinating it is for years. Wu Wei works magic when understood correctly ("understanding" isn't really the best word here, more like "tap into it"). You flow. You slide. Zero resistance. Work done! It is what I prefer to the "you-must-grind-and-become-the-best" attitude of modern self improvement culture. Lao Tzu's wisdom is much deeper than a self-improvement trick and this is just the tip of the iceberg. His teachings are truly liberating. Secondly I want to give an extra tip that I think works well. When we *immediately* move from work to fun (reading, RUclips etc.), there's a sudden surge of stimulation (dopamine rush, if I want to be fancy). What I like to do instead is to meditate before AND after work (or just stare at a wall, go for a walk without my phone or something). That way work itself becomes "relatively fun" ... I'm not looking forward for work to end anymore. Subscribed !!
I like this guy! He talks in a straightforward and humble style. He gives clear and practical advice that anyone can do. He makes it seem simple, which it is, really. Being simple isn't easy, that's the ironic thing! 👍one thing I don't quite agree with,. Meditation isn't boring, and it can be uplifting or even hard work, if your mind won't settle, it can also be revealing and creative ideas can come into your mind, or solutions to problems. So in my experience, meditation isn't the most boring thing. I think there are other things more boring than meditation...🙏👏👍
My take on it is value and discipline I valued destructive actions choosing video games and other things over healthy actions I realized when studying temperance one of the virtues of stoicism I realized that yes I was right video games are valuable but at some point it makes your life a mess and instead of happiness it becomes a waste of time and at that point is should it even be seen as valuable
This is a great video. I always have problem staying motivated to work and study. This has become more serious as I get older. I am going to incorporate what you teach in my lifestyle 💪
Incredible video. I was bored of being bored and this made things a hell lot more clear! Now guitar playing and recording my songs and videos will feel a lot more interesting!! They were not compared to games that I was drenched into all day for the last few days!!! I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. A great channel, soon to be a big one as well. My regards 🙂
Incredible vid. I'm 13, and I started trying to improve at 11 or so, and I have not achieved much. Last year I was distracted a lot, now it has somewhat reduced, but I still fall prey. I will structure my day from tomorrow onwards to do all my tasks and be the person I want to be. amor fati
your concept of leveraging boredom helped me gained a new perspective. I'm really excited to try it out by myself. Also, great video, man. you've gained a new subscriber
This was fantastic! Yours was the first video about practicing boredom I stumbled upon that actually gave actionable advice. And the production quality is beyond awesome! Great work dude, keep it up! P.S. Can you please make such tutorial for meditation?
As I was watching the video 6 minutes in I just realized the channel doesn’t have 1M and I thought it had because of the quality of the video💯💯keep it up
great video, subscribed! This is a very good representation of how our current world is just too full of distractions and dopamine-indulging facilities.
To be honest, it wasn't a new channel level video, it was an above average channel level video. The video was great. There were just a few minor flaws. Keep improving.
@@katielowen 🤨Dude, I'm not doing anything serious like this friend, it's just something I do as a hobby when I feel like it. Also, I didn't compare myself to Yan and say that there was a deficiency, I watched and commented on the video objectively, and this is something that is needed for new and developing channels, even all channels. My goal is not to see myself as superior, but to criticize to help them grow.
@@txnow I have to apologize to you, when I first read your comment last night I thought you were harshly criticizing his video.. Sorry, it was a late night. My bad, and thanks for explaining better!🙏
This is actually a form of Stimulus Control Therapy. People with neurodivergency uses this a lot. Instead of using willpower, you engineer your environment to work towards your goal. External factors (aka stimuli) are taken away so that your brain will choose to do the one thing you supposed to do. Many people, even neurotypicals, are using this for insomnia. Nice video 👍
Watched the video then I saw you only had less than 600 subscribers! I thought I was watching a video with way more views and subs, the production and quality is that good. Very helpful video, cheers
This explains why I always want to read when I have to work

To be honest, I'm impressed by the production quality of this video for such a comparatively small channel. Good luck for the further development!
Thank you so much! Trying my best!
I used to read the backs of shampoo bottles for fun when I was on the can before there were smart phones. And I loved it.
I found this video just as I was starting to think I couldn't sit still for a minute without reaching for my phone. Thank you!
Fun is relative. Interesting 🤔
