Karl is the embodiment of "think outside the box", "stop to smell the roses", "sick of it", "can't be bothered", "bong", "do we need 'em", "what are they doing", etc. Karl's #1 attribute is honesty and that is what makes him so entertaining.
The XFM radio came first, that was in the early 2000's when they met Karl who pushed the buttons, arguably even funnier than the podcasts that these animations are from, the "Educating Ricky" and "Steve Vs Karl" reactions you've done are actually clips from the XFM shows, the podcasts came some years after XFM even into the 2010's. Idiot Abroad has been mentioned in these which was filmed around 2010. These guys basically invented podcasts, for sure popularized it.
Yes i much prefer the XFM shows as great as this xhow is. Karl was more unfiltered when he didn't think his family would hear him discuss stuff like his dad stealing from a phonebox, split tennis ball, kid in a wheelie bin, Aunty Nora farting, girl with marrow, man moth, amongst other classic stuff.
I have watched this show too many times to count, but I had a great time experiencing it through fresh eyes with you guys. You def should check out some of the highlight tapes from the podcast.
If you guys want more Karl Pilkington, there is a compilation on RUclips called “Twaddle - Xfm Compilation” which is 2 hours of insane Karl stories which send Ricky into insanity! 🤣

Strongly recommend you listen to the XFM shows. If they are too long break them down with various compilations like Karl in a film, Karl vs Steve all the insults, Karls dad, Educating Ricky, Rockbusters etc.

Ricky and Steve were radio presenters on a British station called XFm in 1998 then returned in 2001 after making The Office and had Karl as their producer and realised how funny he was and started incorporating him more and more into the show when they talked between songs and that's when Monkey News and Songs of Phrase and Rockbusters started. Then after the radio show ended in 2005 they did the podcast then the podcast was turned into a cartoon between 2010 and 2012.
Karl's dad sawing part of the mattress off just so it can look nice between two cupboards is one of my favourite moments of this series. It's just so legitimately mental. And explains Karl so well, lol.
