- The Coastal Fire burning in Laguna Niguel led to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department calling for residents to immediately evacuate as some homes went up in flames. Sky5 was overhead.

When your house is so big it looks like 5 houses are on fire. Can't relate. With houses that big you know they have the money to repair. Also can't relate.
That being said, these are humans and families and their livelihoods. I am so sorry for everything lost. Those homes held their memories and items dear to their hearts. Their pets and family and i pray they are all able to heal going forward. No one ever deserves this kind of loss. The amount of work that went into these beautiful homes and the size of memories lost so quickly is absolutely devastating. I'm going based on the size of these homes they have the resources to rebuild bc many wouldn't, but rebuilding doesn't replace the memories and family heirlooms lost. Life is more precious than property so I pray no one was killed or severely injured.
It's a beautiful area I could only wish to live in in my wildest dreams, amd it's heartbreaking to see the damage and loss and how fast it happened. My thoughts are with every single person impacted by the loss. I have lost everything I owned, memories and important and treasured things (not bc of a fire but I view it that way bc I fled an abuser with a backpack for my kids and I so I know the feeling of losing everything)..... I don't wish this kind of loss on any soul.
Hope affected Laguna Niguel residents and their pets have been able to evacuate safely. Watching your home burn to the ground, whether you are rich or poor, is not a pleasant experience.

My family and I used to love biking up and down this canyon. Beautiful area.
I have lived in Coronado Pointe for 17 years since I was 7 years old. And this is truly devastating. It happened so fast , just 30 min from when I first began to see ash and smell smoke to the sheriff banging on my door saying I need to leave right now. The homes I grew up seeing and driving past every single day reduced to raging infernos and rubble. These are people I know. New homeowners who just moved in next to me less than a year ago with tons of work just done, retired people, new families with babies, friends. And now everything is gone. Never take anything for granted. It could all be taken away in a few minutes. Coronado Pointe will persevere but this is something I will remember for the rest of my life. Just sitting on my computer watching all the homes in my neighborhood burn to the ground.
@andrew aldujali, I wasn’t there but watched this fire from the beginning. I feel like they could’ve saved all of those houses. The fire was burning for over an hour before it got up to the hill. If they would’ve parked fire engines with hose lines on the fire road they could probably saved the houses. Do you agree or did it really come up that fast & there was nothing they can do. I wasn’t there idk what happened. Just what I saw from watching the news

I live five minutes from there, and we saw the fire up Pacific Island.
The fire was just a small fire in the canyon. There was a Sheriff helicopter
circling the area. It took over twenty five minutes for the fire department
to arrive. This disaster could have been prevented.

I’m a little south east of this and we have been getting tons of smoke. I knew the smoke was a bad sign but I couldn’t have imagine that it was from such a destructive fire. I feel so bad for everybody who’s lost their homes, belongings, pets & those who lose their lives. Let’s hope these winds die down so we can get this fire under control

We are across the canyon, off of Crown Valley. My wife took pictures coming into our community. It looked like a war zone. Volunteer at the shelter on Crown Valley if you want to help out.🙋🏻♂️👏🏼👍

All these high end homes and likely no type of fire suppression sys like a fire pump using a pool or large tank plus supplied water, sprinklers, lengths of hose to get everything wet....but maybe the biggest thing is a good defensible space around all homes. The USFS/ your State Forestry has info on "best practices" if you live in areas that have a high fire activity please read it and implement it, give these firefighters a chance.
If a well equipped, well trained fire department can't control these fires then I doubt very much that homeowners with small hoses could do much more than get burned to death.
Points well taken. If you live in a drought stricken area, you have a few things you must do to increase your odds of not burning up
@@captinbeyond absolutely. I live in Texas and it has been rough here too, as far as wildfires. I spent most of last summer clearing brush and dead fall off my small property for that very reason. I retired from a municipal fire department in 2015 after 29 years. Damn sure don't wanna burn up now! 😆
@@kentcarter835 see you have to get out of that mindest, preping homes is something the homeowner plays a big part in. Fire Prevention,Cause and Education is a great place to impement those precautions, the sprinklers can be automatic, the hose line is so you can prep your home ahead of any evacuations and assist the FD by having a water point and or a working hose line. That along with good housekeeping, keeping gutters clean,keeping brush and undergrowth cut at least 100ft diameter around the home. After working my share of wildfires, that's in my opionon the biggest help that can be provided, it's no fun when you mark homes "stand alone,indefensible"..that means that should the home or homes catch fire they will be left alone to burn. It's not a easy choice but firefighter safety is #1. Help those guys n gals out a lil bit, it helps you and the neighbors keep your property,stay safe.

I too have lived in CP for 26 years on Via las Rosas, which is a cul-de-sac within the community that was mostly untouched. For those who may not know, high winds AND the dry brush on hillside fueled the fires path, and that hillside behind the homes is steep and fire moves quickly up steep hills. My sympathies go to all the owners whose homes were lost, and most especially the personal items that were lost. The fire happened so incredibly fast in May, which is not typical fire season month. I have been walking the 'back trail' aka Aliso Summit Trail behind our homes, and it is simply surreal. It looks like another planet. There is a landscape company (Nov - December 2022) laying burlap on the hillside right now. All the homes that burned down were demolished and removed within a few months, and the lots are bare, chain linked and waiting for a rebuild. CP is a small community of 72 homes - most of them were built in the late 1980s, on up to 1997. I believe 19 CP homes burned down, but many other CP homes had significant damage. Those damaged homes are having repairs done now. New homes construction has not begun yet. Coronado Pointe will be rebuilt, and will be better than ever. We love this community.

Brush fires can reach 1,500 degrees. Tile roofs have small gaps between each tile where embers land and then burn the underlying material (insulation, wood, etc.)

Timber sawed down should be gathered in long stripped areas. These areas should be wide enough so they can help stop forest fires from spreading and it would leave firefighters room enough to enter the stripped areas to fight the fires more easily. For the most part, timber should be cut down in the mountains that are closer to towns. I know that this would look strange but it could be very helpful to save people's homes and lives. It's like having a strategic war against forest fires. Most timber is selected individually to be cut down. That is ok as long as they cut the stripped areas out as well to prevent the spread of fires. When will they ever learn?
