I would say that the 'new look' was about staying relevant with their audience. A smart move to get more people into playing their game. Even the best can benefit from a little update now and then!
Art work is nice but if you dig little deep into it, they made some errors in production. Some coffee tiles are missing too. They are about to launch a 2nd edition of this version as far as I know.
Happy to see such a classic game (that was actually number 1 on board game geek for YEARS) get a revival from a new crowd.
