Thank you for the sub! Those head gaskets can be fun....not really but good to think positive. Have you found a machine shop yet to get them resurfaced?
I watched your video on how to replace rocker cover gaskets on Nissan Xterra. It was a very detailed illustration as I followed your explanation. I've 2008 Pathfinder, the engine is very similar. After watching your illustration, I plan of replacing my gaskets due to oil leaks. My name is Gladstone from Nigeria.
Thank you and you are most welcome! Im glad my video was able to help you get your vehicle back on the road, without breaking the bank! Thanks for watching and subscribe for more diy auto repair here on the channel!
The video is great. I actually like the voiceover as it allows you to give a concise narrative as to steps and inside knowledge as what to watch out for.
Thank you Nic I'm glad that you enjoyed the video and found it beneficial towards your repair. I liked it dude. My 07 Pathfinder has 194K miles and has been leaking from both valve covers... think I'll give it a shot over the holidays... so thanks!
You are most welcome Ted! Yeah it is definitely time for your Pathfinder to get some new valve covers. Just follow the video along and you will have it done in no time. Thanks for watching!
You are most welcome Scott! This is a great repair to save hundreds of dollars on by doing it yourself. Great job on choosing to do this repair yourself!
Thank you David I am glad that you enjoyed the video and found it to be beneficial. I definitely agree with you on the spark plugs. Now is definitely the opportune time to replace those.
Very informative video but I have to say, I was freaking out that those intake ports did not get covered immediately. I did this on a 2001 chevy impala and lost a valve because an "extra" bolt got in one. Use masking tape or shop rags people!
Just a bit of advice at 8:22, when you got your hand back reaching back there watch out for the heater hose nipple located about wrist high, that plastic nipple is brittle as F and if you break it you might need to get the whole set up, not cheap and a pain in the ass to replace I've heard of a few people that have had this happen
Nissan Frontier /Suzuki Equator ( at least mine did ) needs to replace heater hose assembly at rear of motor along firewall with alumnium ones that are available now .The original factory ones the plastic disintegrates where they connect at the fittings on ends.
Hello.YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT!i have a question have the same car 2006.My car has 200 k miles.Runs great started shaking but its a crankshaft circuit.I took it to mechanic because when I turn it on it blows out little smoke from back like for 6 seconds then clears up.He said sparkplugs have oil but pistons dont sound that its probably blown head and to rebuild the engine. He dont anwser my calls I guess he dont want to fix it he put everything back nd I have my car back.what do you think the smoke is.Thanks it looks lkke blue smoke.it also has p0420 code
Im glad you enjoy my videos! Thanks for watching them! The p0420 is a weak catalytic converter due to the real problem and culprit of the blue smoke. You need new valve covers. On the Pathfinder it has spark plug orings that are built into the plastic valve covers. Check out my video on replacing the valve cover. That will fix your blue smoke. Check the codes again and see if you have a crankshaft sensor code. I will link the video below to the valve covers. Also i put the link to the ones on Amazon as well in the video description to help you out. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
Thank you so much!Yes I saw your video and thats why I need your opinion to see if i should do this.I just wanted to do somthing cheaper than change the blown heads the mechanic said maybe it will be.Thank I will update
You are most welcome! If you had a blown head gasket it would be spewing smoke out the exhaust consistently. Also if you want to do a test, pull your oil dipstick, if the oil is milky then you have a blown head gasket. Or if your coolant is "boiling" that is a blown head gasket. The bubbles are exhaust coming from the cylinders not actually boiling.
To get to the head gasket you will have to take the intake manifold, fuel rail, valve covers. After you get those components removed you will be ready to remove the cylinder head to get to your head gasket
Thanks for video! You said that the Spark plug orings are built in so cant be replaced? Was wondering about my 2005 nissan pathfinder v4 if its built in or should i buy the gasket kit ! Ty
You are most welcome, thank you for watching! I would buy the valve covers, they should already come with the gasket kit, and the new spark plug well o rings will already be installed. The link to them should be in the video description. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions
How many hours did it take to do this job and great job on the video thanks. I have oil on top of a few plugs and a bad misfire like the suv will not get past 2500 rpm and will not pull out of its tracks I am not getting any codes to come up though. I’m replacing the plugs coils valve cover gasket a plug tube gasket and intake gasket I pray that this fixes it or I’m going to be in serious trouble.
I know nothing about cars LOL but we are having A LOT of issues wirh our pathfinder. Cuestion is: can those 3 seals on the spark plugs wholes be replaced? (Be nice with me as I have no idea about fixing cars but my husband is at the end of the rope and we have no other car!!)
Yes they can be replaced but you have to replace the entire valve cover because they come as one piece. Here is the valve cover you will need with those 3 seals in it. amzn.to/3A3HOww It is for the pair and comes with the valve cover gaskets as well. Doing this at a shop would run an average of $1200, with this video and the parts, this repair will cost you $100!!!! Now thats a savings!!! Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any additional questions!
lol good to know, when you get too frustrated, make sure you take a break. Broken parts= more money, ive been there....which totally sucks when i have to tell my wife yeah that part.....ummm......broke on uninstall LOL
There's a rigid tube over the top of the driver's side valve cover, how do you navigate that obstacle? It's a very rigid black tube, ? Vacuum? I don't see a way to remove it, appears crimped on at each end.
That looks like an AC line that is held on the firewall with a "P bracket" if you remove the bracket, the line will have enough room to move out of the valve cover's way. Hope this helps and thank you for watching!!
I got 2004 frontier V6 SE with a similar problem except it includes spark plugs 1 and 6 not firing properly. The truck only has 69000 miles so am I better off paying to get it fixed or selling? How much would you estimate the cost of fixing or how much can I sell the truck for?
First of all I would not sell a vehicle due to valve cover gaskets needing replaced. Second I would replace the spark plugs and coils on cylinders 1 & 6th if you have not done that recently. This usually fixes all misfires due to maintenance intervals not being followed. Cost of fixing a valve cover would be the cost of parts which can be found in the video description. Overall a very easy repair and a easy way to save a few hundred dollars. Also if you want to know how much you can get for your vehicle type the mileage and your ZIP code into Kelley Blue Book and look under private party. The number that they give you their will give you a good estimate of what you can sell your vehicle for at your location.

Thanks for the video! Did you end up replacing the covers or just the gaskets? I'm afraid to start-in and discover I need to order covers. I've got 175k, both sides seeping around the edges.
You are most welcome! I did wind up replacing both the valve covers due to the spark plug well o'ring is built into the valve cover. I would suggest to replace both the valve covers and valve cover gasket at the same time.
What’s the toque spec for the oil sender/ does it need new gasket maker sealant? I put everything back together and it’s leaking from both of them now. Thanks
Did you make sure the gasket did not move when reinstalling? Sometimes the gasket can roll or move slightly causing a leak. Double check your gasket and reinstall
@@Sellthoseflippingcars That's NOT a "sending unit", it's the bank 2 VVT solenoid. Make sure it stays clean, re-use the old gasket, cannot find a replacement without buying the VVT.
Sell those flipping cars - How do you get the right valve cover off? do you have to remove the oil intake on that one as well, as seen on the left side in your video?
Yes you will have to take the oil intake off of that site as well. It will make it easier to access the bolts. If you have a swivel extension with your ratchet this will help you get to those bolts easier with a deep well socket.
Dude thank you so much for the quick reply! your video is great, but I'm learning how terrible replacing valve gaskets on this car is lol. I'm still having such a hard time with the intake manifold. I feel like I have everything removed, but I MUST be missing some hidden bolt or something.
