      "....viewership down..." BLAH BLAH BLAH! And yet their ppv buys are consistent or up year over year, event over event.... At $50 a pop its impressive that those numbers have remained steady or increased. TV viewership isn't a real indicator anymore, way too many have "cut the cable cord" or watch thru alternative digital means.... And with 8-10 ppv events a year, at $50 each it's very impressive AND FINANCIALLY LUCRATIVE to maintain the buyrate numbers.

    Spot-on. Don't do it all the time, but do it when the feud/match calls for it. One of the reasons I was let down by the Drew-Punk feud is that their matches never really felt all that heated or violent despite these guys supposedly wanting to kill each other.
    Not to mention AEW was doing pizza slicers and flaming tables in 2021, which was easily their hottest year.

    Tony Khan wants it to be more than 600,000. Impact and others tried that in the past as a WWE competitor, didn't work and the ultra-violence won't work for AEW. People don't want that overly bloody sh*t. I agree copying WWE won't work either. Being niche is not what Tony Khan wants being niche is not good enough for AEW's vision. The sad truth is they are in a really tough spot and I def don't pretend to know the answer, but the overly violent shock value will not work long term whatsoever. Its already overdone.

    None of it went too far because there's nothing in wrestling. If you go to far it only serves a purpose. It gives good drama. It also sells the animosity between another wrestler. If they make the audience uncomfortable then that is exactly what they should do. It makes the turn that more heinous and sells them as a reason to really not like each other anymore. On top of that the cage match itself what they did in that makes them seem like they really don't like each other. Mission accomplished. I actually wasn't uncomfortable with it I enjoyed it. I'm from The Attitude Era though. Also people don't know this but Ric Flair did a plastic bag spot where someone did that to him. Back in his earlier days!

My point is that one moment, the hosts of the news said it wasn't a big deal because aew barely does things like this.... then they follow that by saying kids shouldn't be watching because they do violent stuff on their weekly shows. Next I made a point, that the hosts said that the match was hard to watch... which if you have a product that is hard to watch, that normally doesn't do well for ratings. The needle spot is kinda fucked up ngl that was abit far. Even tho it's not a pg sport you have to know kids watch that and anything to do with stabbing or a needle is just a no go. What's next a full on pistol? I know wwe did that in the past but they've moved beyond that.

    I just don’t see how you’re going to bring in NEW fans with what AEW is doing. Seriously. Every month fewer and fewer people are either watching it on TV or going to see it live. And, it’s because it’s boring. So, insanely boring!
    They don’t promote or push people with charisma. It’s the same boring flipy-do botch fest with the most interchangeable people. Matches aren’t exciting or interesting because you know who’s going to win - always. Nobody has a proper finisher. Jobbers can have a 20-minute match with the champ. The most ridiculous and pathetic hard core stuff is done to cater to the smallest segment of fans, etc etc.
    AEW has the attitude, “If you don’t like it, don’t watch.” And… people aren’t. Every month the numbers are lower for people watching on tv and watching it live. That’s NOT the sign of something that people want. It’s the sign of something for a very small segment of an already small demographic.
    I’m sure if you did the research, you’d find a certain percentage of the human population prefers to have sex in port-a-potty’s. This doesn’t mean it’s the sexiest and best way to get someone in the mood.

      @KrisBryant99 4 дня назад +1

      @@scotthardie5141 it's ironic because AEW was never honest about who their target audience was but instead paraded around the fact that it would be the ''new WWE" with better characters and stories and NO wrestling as a whole was NOT gay. It was once a formula that celebrated many aspects of culture until ''wokeness'' ruined it and limited it.

    • @Sd12sx23
      @Sd12sx23 4 дня назад

      They're pretty open with their gay characters, so I dont see how they are "masquerading" about anything. And I dont see the "wokeness" interfering with the show too much, at least these days, maybe a few years ago I would have agreed with you, but not recently. If you want to talk about wrestling representing all aspects of culture, then my opinion would be that aew seems like they're trying harder to offer something for everyone. A couple gay characters does not make for them gearing their show towards a mostly gay audience.
