You need to keep more weight on your front foot while pushing. Extend your back pushing foot to be in front of your front foot at the start of the push, not behind it or next to it. Practice rolling forward with just front foot on board to help with this. Push with more ball of foot and not the whole foot When you are done pushing you need to adjust your front foot so it is perpendicular to the board. When you need to push again adjust front foot parallel to the board. Practice goofy (your normal back foot is now front foot) a little from the start. Wear wrist pads and probably you should wear a helmet.
When you push all your weight is on the right leg bc you put it 1km side far from you. You will never go faster or even smoother if you dont keep half of your weight on the board during the push. And when you push, use and bend your knees, not too much your upper body. Thats make the skater unbalanced and remove full legs control. Good luck
@@MandyGriffing Dont put any wheight on the pushing foot ive only skated for 4 days (not longboard) but its pretty easy to learn to ride with only one foot on the board and thats what you need for a good push,
@@nikkiconsulta5987 I also ride goofy and its the same learn how to ride standing on your front foot and keeping the other one in the air after a while you will be able to use all your wheight on it while pushing and then using the pushing foot only for speed and not for balance.
I used to skateboard when I was younger. I had never even heard of longboarding. I would ride awkwardly, and noisily over short distances and feel that it was no better than just walking the same distance. I only recently found out about Longboards. Seeing someone (a beginner no less) get this much speed and momentum from just a few brief pushes is still kind of mind-blowing to me.
hey i have been skating for about 7 years broke my ankel 3 times so now im doing longboard only its really good to see other people learning very good job :D brings me joy just to watch
currently have a cruiser board and working my way up to a longboard. love this video. cant wait to get my board. ill be more than comfortable while riding it since the cruiser board definitely helps as a beginner with balance and turning and just being comfortable and connected with your board.
Keep it up. Doing great. My daughter and I go out on the weekends. We both fall and laugh. I would definitely recommend a shorter board though... something like a 30-32" though. I think you would have more control over the board, especially on flat surfaces that you seem to mostly ride on. Just keep the trucks tight at first and as you ride and learn the board they'll soften over time as your experience grows. My 12yr odl daughter rides a Landyatchz tugboat, which may be something to look at.
I was just gifted a longboard and don’t know a thing about riding. This is giving me a bit of hope that i’ll get there! You look pretty confident as you progress.
You probably know this by now, but just in case, here's a great tip that helped me a lot. The faster you go, the more you need to shift your weight on the front foot. That's where you have the best balance. 👍
Glad to see you progressing I too just picked up a board for the first time for as a new hobby... FYI as an Alumni its got some nice places to practice since it's mostly flat, unlike that nasty hill from our rival school. GO STATE.
Helmet, gloves, and knee pads are extremely recommended when beginning!! It may be embarrassing or you don’t think it’s cool but it’s better than hurting yourself!!
I'm wanting to try out longboarding come springtime. Snow will be coming soon and a longboard during winter is kind of useless where I live during those months. But it looks like a lot of fun, and a good form of exercise too so I'm eager to try it out.
Great exercise and lot of fun… Give it a try as a Land paddle …become really eficiente and can go longer distances… I use, braap stick and sk8pole …highly recommended 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It actually took me 2 days to stand on the board without holding onto something and I'm still learning to do the basic tricks but I keep on failing cuz im afraid to fall on the board🤦🙃
My question: is it necessary to have a helmet on or any protective gear? I don’t see you having any on haha. This is so cool. I always dreamed of having a longboard and recently saved up enough to get one. Not the best but it was okay. It hasn’t arrived but this is so cool.
My tips for beginners: When you're too scared of falling down when you're pushing, just bend your knees. The idea is, you're closer to the ground when you fall down. Falling down is a part of learning. And speaking of falling, try not to panic. This will help your body to anticipate when you're about to fall down. Don't push too hard, focus first on balancing, learn how to shift your weight. Learn to balance your upper body, not just your lower body. Then learn how to balance your front foot when you're pushing. This will help you to learn multiple pushing.
Longboard just arrived today. I can already tell I suck. I'm having trouble because I'm a lefty but I stand with my left foot forward and push with my right AND on top of that, for some reason, It feels better to stand with my right foot forward, but when pushing it feels better to stand with left forward. Still confused, but wish me luck
here's a tip for faster and easier pushing, when you go to push only push with the tip of your foot don't put your whole foot on the ground and don't put all your weight on it either keeep all your weight on your foot that's on the board. hope this helps!
Definitely recommend wearing a helmet, even if people call you a loser for it. Cracked my skull after bombing a hill and really regreted not wearing a helmet after that.
This whole comment makes me wanna puke even if you "loved it" watch what you type on the internet you sad sack of s*!t. To the person who made this video in honesty you should have a wider stance have your feet an inch or 2 before your trucks but your front foot was right, godspeed and wear a helmet/gear they'll save your life.
Haha up to the middle and beyond of the video I'm at that same skill >:D And awesome friend who's also skilled taught me and I learned in 2 days now im needing to practice turning and gotta get my own longboard
Hello beautiful how's your progress now? I just built my longboard today am a beginner as well what so you think of the sector 9 butterball wheels I installed those haven't tooken it out to ride still need some riser's and it'll be read to ride
I just ate mega shit when I was bombing a hill now I cant use my right hand or stand on my right leg. I think I also left quite a large dent in someone's minivan. GL to you. I recommend elbow pads at the least
@@MandyGriffing Glad to hear it . Keep it up . I started skating at 13 at the local skate park . I’m 59 now and still skate. Electric Evolve board is one of my main things besides the regular longboard
Not trying to put you down but, It took me about one day to learn how to ride and somewhat skate around. The most important thing is to not be scared (also wear a helmet) 😃
Wow great job! I started in October about 2 months before you uploaded this so it was intresting watching it from another beginners point of view. If you still ride, how are you doing now?
Bend your knees more, your front leg looks like a fence post. Start trying to keep more weight on your left foot when pushing. You should get to the point that you're totally balanced on your left foot and swinging your right foot freely to push. Most importantly, KEEP AT IT. 💯 👌
if youre gonna keep up the hobby get yourself something like a dinghy. short, easy to ride, and light. theyre perfect for class n stuff, although i'm riding a 34" cruiser for class lmao.
i dont mean to be that guy but why make a longboard progression video when you can do actual skateboarding i learned to ride any skateboard in like a week and a half

Good advice. Helmet is also great for confidence boosting so that the skater may improve even faster.
Yes going up slopes is also perfect for doing this

Hey, nice progress! Way to stay with it, that's awesome Mandy. Can't wait to see you see you carving it up next.
