I watched this segment this morning and kept staring at Teyonah Parris, "Where do I know her from???" Finally looked it up! She played Dawn Chambers, Don Draper's secretary in the last ~2-3 seasons of Mad Men! So talented. Your curls are your crown, wear them with pride.

While I didn’t enjoy the movie as most MCU movies. It has its moments, a good plot, and a great soundtrack. That’s all I need in a marvel movie. 😊
She was exceptional in They Cloned Tyrone.

Never let people gaslight you into thinking representation/diversity is not important. Many of the same people complaining about representation would be doing the same if their group wasn't so well represented for decades and decades. Even now, you can hear some of them talking about a decrease in representation of things like strong, stoic males in movies and shows, and it is not even true as far as I can tell.
Put a woman in it and make her gay…lol

I'm excited! I knew about the Monica Rambeau character since the early 80s! She was a Black woman endowed with the marvel powers. She could fly at the speed of light. She was even the temporary leader of the AVENGERS in their comic book series. I was always amazed there was a Black character like this. Now I get to see it on film! I always cherished her, Black Panther, Storm and Power Man (Luke Cage) - incredible Black characters I got to grow up reading!

Would have helped if they’d gotten to promote this movie before its release, but the actor strike hadn’t ended yet.
May not have helped its box office but saying it’s the number one movie despite being the lowest opening for a marvel movie is really putting a spin on it.

That is not putting a spin on it. It was the #1 movie last week - by a huge amount (#1 movie 48 million, #2 movie 9 million).

Representation doesn't mean doing a terrible movie. People misunderstand what representation actually means and The Marvels has no representation just what the writers think is representation.

@@tatum635 it was very terrible and made no sense whatsoever. The writing was terrible that they stole the plot from space balls and the villian was really dumb and forgettable. One of the worst MCU movies of all time and it's tanking at the box office. Either you have the lowest IQ known to mankind or you didn't watch the movie.

The movie did really poorly at the international box office and Disney/Marvel lost tons of money with this one. So we won't have more for sure.

I really think her 3rd movie will be like a Civil War. If you follow the Vaptain America trilogy, they are almost following the same path with Carol and Captain Marvel.
A woman out of time (with some memory issues), she teams up with select group of heroes to take down another terrible militant group on her adopted world, and I think the 3rd will be an internal conflict between the heroes she has met along the way.
I loved the movie. It was sweet and a wonderful love letter to people who love comics for what they can inspire in people.

Seriously, got nothing against these actresses but who spends 300 million dollars on 1 mostly disliked actress and 2 completely unknown actresses? It's an insult to veteran actors who had to prove themselves in B-Movies before reaching this level. And like it or not, most people watch these big budget films to see their favorite actors perform not to discover newbies take their first steps. They have to go the popularity tests in lower films first. Only reason why I watched Eternals was because Angelina Jolie was starring. The rest of the cast were newbies and it tanked. This is a business meant to generate profit not a civil rights movement.

Iman seems very sweet but her character needs more juice behind it. An in-universe superhero fangirl becoming a superhero is just too meta, too like what ChatGPT would produce. Give her something difficult, some struggle, something about her particular background to overcome. And be willing to offend - maybe her traditionalist parents don't want her being a superhero. The movie needed something more.
The fact that she's overcoming hijab and other 6th century misogynist rules is her struggle , I guess.

What an amazing segment and while they were to promote the film, talking about respresentation is so important. Two amazing and beautiful actresses showing the next gen of kids, esp young girls, who can see someone who looks like them or has a similar background and they too can succeed. Really great interview.

This movie was terrible. Also, representation is important, but it's dumb to alienate your existing fanbase for one that does not exist. Whoopi always represented women who wear their hair freely so it was remiss of her not to give Whoopi her props. I guess she'll watch this later and realize she was sitting in the presence of an EGOT and the first black EGOT but didn't thank her publicly for breaking down barriers for her and others who look like her.

Sunny has natural hair. Having blonde highlights doesn't mean it's not natural hair. She didn't say " natural hair colour." Natural hair means black people's hair that isn't chemically straightened. No relaxers or perms.They can still wear weave or colour their hair. But once you put that relaxer or perm on it, it's no longer natural hair.

The Marvels is not perfect, but the most fun I had with a superhero film in a great while. Iman Vellani is a gem, the future leader of the Avengers and President of Marvel needs to be protected at all costs.
