just looked up; A door-to-door salesman traveling through Lynwood offered the Yankovic parents a choice of accordion or guitar lessons at a local music school. Yankovic claims the reason his parents chose accordion over guitar was "They figured there should be at least one more accordion-playing Yankovic in the world", referring to Frankie so no relation =(
My great uncle was a polka musician that knew Frankie Yankovic, at a Midwest polka fest around the time of this vid I was introduced to him, but was warned beforehand not to ask about Weird Al because it made him upset 😄
Nice to see AL playing with his dad. Some clowns have all the fun.Amish Paradise is one of my favorite hits of Al's. Still wondering how he convinced Florence Henderson of the Brady Bunch to make a cameo appearance in the video.
Well done! It's a shame that in Israel the accordeon is not well appreciated. People in Israel laugh at me because I'm learning to play the accordeon...
And Polka is from Czechia apperently, but sounds very familiar to a Polish ear. It is great for intense dancing. 2 minute workouts. I think it encapsulates the spirit of Western and Southern Slavs. Croatia or Poland or wherever between, this is the sound we all know somehow. I think the name of the Slovakian capital gives us a clue, we are all Braty Slava! :D
"Yugoslavian" is an artificial term; Slovene people rather carry the same "blood" (DNA) as Slovak, Hungarian, Austrian people, rather than "Yugoslavians". Check out the recent genetic studies. Yankovič(left, with long hair) might have had Serbian ancestors, but they were living in Slovenia. But Yankovic (on the right in this video) is purest Slovene; he was playing Slovene folk songs with his accordion.
I'm sooo glad the two of them got together! I've been wondering how two accordian playing Yankovics could coexist and never meet.

The two great Yankovics meet, how fantastic!

A meeting of titans.
'Al-oholics Anonymous'. That's brilliant.
It's from this old site of videos. www.al-oholicsanonymous.com/
Holy shit! good music got nominated back then.
@weirdalfan1980 thank so much, that clip made my day. What a historic moment in music and comedy.
Oh this is FABULOUS!

Frankie and Al are not related, yes they share the same last name. It's like Smith. Frankie was a polka legend in his own right.

Why? they use the accordion in israeli folk music

Weird Al isn't of Serbian descent, but rather, of Slovene and Croatian descent through his father.
And now it’s the biggest music in México.
Love it.
Awesome
Was this Weird Al’s first year in review polka medley?
Seriously, how are these two NOT related?!
When worlds collide:
Welcome to the pleasuredom.. :)
ahhh western ohio polka fests - Hamler's was best but I was partial to Jenera's! and the Yankovic "cousins" playing either would've kicked butt!
thats right frankie is slovenian like me ;) is wierd al slovenian too?
Both Weird Al Yankovic's and Frankie's ancestors came from Slovenia, not Serbia
+VendPrekmurec Slight correction. Frankie was indeed of Slovenian descent whereas Al has Yugoslavian blood.

Yugoslavian is a bs term tbh
What the name of the song in the back ground at 0:17?
Assuming you're not joking, it is called Relax! by the group Frankie Goes to Hollywood...which I guess is why they decided to toss it in there.
Thank you! I recognized it but I couldn't think of the name.
0:19 Whose star is that? Bee Gees?

0:35 Whose star is that?
