Piano Sonata No. 5 in G major, K.283 (189h)
arranged for 2 Pianos by Edvard Grieg, E.G. 113, No. 1 (1876-77)
to John Paulson (1851-1924)
1. Allegro (0:00)
2. Andante (5:53)
3. Presto (11:50)
Heide Goertz & Tina Margareta Nilssen
Sonata K.283 was composed when Mozart was in Munich for premiere of "La finta giardiniera", probably as travelling repertoire that might be readily copied for would-be patrons. The six Sonatas K.279-284 were all written in rapid succession, either December 1774 or early 1775. Precise dates are unclear.
When Grieg added an accompaniment for a second piano to Mozart’s keyboard sonatas, he did it primarily with teaching in mind. It was apparently common practice in the 1880s for teachers to accompany their pupils on a second piano (my own teacher was still perpetuating the custom 80 years on). But the resulting compositions soon found their way into the concert-hall where, according to Grieg, “the whole thing sounded surprisingly good”.
And so it does today. In trying to “impart to several of Mozart’s sonatas a tonal effect appealing to our modern ears” Grieg left a telling little document or two on just what those late nineteenth-century Norwegian ears expected. - Видеоклипы
Beautiful. Splendid. Not enough superlatives. Absolute genius
We love Mozart / Grieg
Kinda fascinating.
It might be better to play some of the Grieg additions the first time and then when taking the repeats, put the rest in.
Edvardian Amadeism
Cute.
I didn't realize grieg did so many of them. Probably for him and his wife.
He wrote it for his friend John Paulson.
Did grieg ever done an arrangiament on the a minor sonata?
well according to imslp he did some other sonatas (14, 15, 16 in cm, F, C) and the fantasie in c minor K 475. not the a minor .
Grieg arranged only 4 Sonatas, specially for his friend John Paulson. Those might have been Paulson's choices. Who knows.
It was long overdue that someone realised that the effusions of musical genius were in need of improvement. I'm reminded of that Spanish woman who 'touched-up' the church fresco with hilarious results.
Me, I'm reminded of the East-European Jewish in-joke about an [very] amateur troupe who staged their version of Hamlet "Yiddishised and improved".
LOL that's why you feel your commenting fulfills a need to improve my brilliant channel. You proof your own point, this has nothing to do with Grieg or Mozart. It is about you.
Non sapevo che Mozart rappresentasse una chiesa... È così sacro, è una santa reliquia? 😉
@@bartjebartmans I wasn't commenting on you or your channel. It was an observation about Grieg's improvement. Don't be so sensitive.
@@poncione Se la tua conoscenza dell'inglese fosse migliore non avresti frainteso il mio commento e fatto una risposta così bizzarra.
