- In this episode, I return to Washington's east side to explore some of the rural lands adjacent to the Cascade Mountains. Got a glimpse of those summer temperatures and enjoyed putting some miles on the Outback. Enjoy!

Brae, taking more photos of people is definitely a good call.
Indeed it is!
That deer shot is so good! Talk about perfect timing!
Thank you! Lucked out with that one haha
Really related to what you said about hesitating to ask people if they'd like their photo taken. The interaction you had with BK was so pure and illustrated the beauty we can have with complete strangers when we have a camera in our hands. Like you I'm going to make a conscious effort to shoot more portraits this summer!
Love to hear that! And I completely agree. A little faith in humanity is restored during every one of these encounters!
@@BraeHunziker yeah you got the nail on the head. I'm in the same boat about asking akwardly for portraits and enjoy landscape. The thing is, landscapes will always be there, but the people around you won't.
These photos were soooo good! The fighter jets had me, then BK, then the deer/windmill combo?! Dude. So good.
Ah thank you Stephen!!
Yes, asking the guy with the van was so worth it! :o
Dude was rad!
I feel you with the fear / social anxiety thing. I’m struggling with getting up close photos of people with a 35mm when I’m shooting street, but I know I need to include more shots of people and not just cityscapes. It’s tough, but that’s also the beauty of self-expression - following fear. Great job doing that AND openly talking about it on your channel. Love it.
Thank you!
"This world is interesting because of the people who live in it"... really got me, Brae! Great video!
Great video. Can relate to the anxiety of asking people to take their photos. I've missed many meaningful images because of it. You inspired me to bite the bullit and take some risks.
Definitely something many people struggle with! Slow process getting over those fears!
Oh wow Brian and Brae together in the same zip code, all you needed was Willem to make the Trifecta!!
Haha one day! 😂
Hi Brae, I really can recognize myself in your sayings about taking pictures of people in stead of landscapes. It can be terrifiying to ask but can be so worth it when it all comes togheter to a sick shot. Your pictures of people are great and i am curious to see what you will shoot this summer.
Agreed dude! Definitely worth it when it ends up working out. Happy shooting!
Only recently found your channel but I’m loving your videos so far. It’s super refreshing to see that your based in Washington, instead of LA or NYC. Being from the U.K. i didn’t realise Washington was so mountainous and pretty! Your videos are so relaxing and just what I need some evenings. Thanks man!
Ah thank you! Appreciate it :)
Pictures of people contain so much emotion. As you said, it's a unique opportunity. Best wishes!
Thanks Charles! Indeed they do!
I am in the same boat. I love landscapes and seascapes too, but I get the most excited for photos of strangers I ask to take a photo of. That's always the shot I am most excited to get developed.
I think it's something many photographers feel. Just something special about it. Cheers, Michael!
I think photos of people when you have asked to take their photo generally have a story because of either a conversation that you had with the person, or the feeling that you had when you decided to go and take a photo of them. Its relatable and as humans we remember the unique and all people are unique in one way or the other. Great work Brea and looking forward to seeing your next adventures.
Well said and couldn't agree more!
Great photos/commentary....glad you are working on taking portraits.
Thanks Gary!
Shot at 12:09 is perfect! And I’m glad you asked for his photo, I can relate to the anxiety that comes with asking strangers for portraits, trying to get better at it 😊
Thanks dude! Feels good getting over that social anxiety haha
Another awesome video, you got some killer images! That section were car kept parking in your shots was comedy gold 👌
Lol felt like I was being pranked...
But thanks dude, appreciate you!
Was about to go to bed when I noticed you'd uploaded - oops. Love that you feature the moments asking people whether they'd like their photo taken, something about those interactions is so special. Really great video!
Haha sorry to keep ya up!
But thanks for checking out the vid. Definitely special interactions. Cheers!
Came for the photos, stayed for the videography 🤙
Thanks homie 🙏🏻
You are living my life! Thank you for sharing❤
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos and work. Lookout for your video’s every week!
Thank you!
4:58 is really good. Reminiscent of Sternfeld for sure. The bare landscape in the background combined with the sad (or happy or indifferent) couple, with the shirt pulled up just a little bit, is just like his work. So happy you are leaning more towards portraits. There is insane opportunities out in your neck of the woods.
Dude that photo was such a strange one, but really like the way it turned out. Just one of those things you come across on I-90 I suppose. But yeah feels good venturing into the portrait world a little bit. Had to take some inspo from Father Bryan hehe
@@BraeHunziker Father Bryan inspires us all lol
Duuude that deer shot!
The 2 portraits are very cool too!
Your video and drone shots are always really nice too.
Caprisunman :P
Haha thank you dude 😎👊🏻
Hell yeah, portraits and Brae. Glad you shall take this road once again, I feel like you got really great results there (not that you haven't got them in landscape, nothing like that).
It's just I remember binge watching your entire youtube about a year ago (time flies) and I liked your portraits a lot.
Thank you, Michal! Definitely realizing the portrait work holds significant value to me. Look forward to exploring it more this summer. Appreciate the support!
An absolute banger of a video!!!
Thank you, Michael!
Beautiful photos and a great video
Thanks Parker!
Please.... more adventures into environmental portraiture would be bananas!
That’s the plan!
Next time you're in eastern Washington east of vantage, go up by Dry Falls and the Grand Coulee Dam. Photog's paradise 💪
Just went out to Coulee City but didn’t have time to get to the dam. Next time I will for sure
The timing on the fighter jets is awesome. Had one fly over and dip its wing while snowshoeing Gold Creek. Just put the camera down for lunch.
Lucked out for sure!
And dang that's a bummer haha. Bet it was cool to see nonetheless!
Yes! Spring and fall. Washington should hire you to promote the state. Beautiful work, as always.
Haha I'd love to be a state ambassador! Cheers, Bob!
4:58 and 6:08, Damn, love it how you get a snapshot on a part of someones life, this kind of work is why i what your chanel, reminds me so much of nguan and jeol sternfeld
Ah thank you so much, Samuel!
Thanks for sharing, love eastern Wa
Beautiful out there!
Every guy on that mountain with a car: I'm gonna annoy this film shooter on the parking lot. 😄
Haha literally what it felt like 😂
I felt this video on a deep level bro, thank you! I love that you are delving more into portraiture. We live in the same area, your work inspires me often!
Ah thank you dude! Really appreciate that
The return of summer, got to love it. Great video and lovely shots as always Brae. Totally felt your struggle with the school bus shot, was a little funny though 😂
Haha figured someone would get a kick out of my struggles... Cheers!
So true about faves tending to be portraits of friends etc. I was thinking the same thing the other day as pics rolled across my dumb Lenovo display. Also, I notice certain focal lengths that seem to be faves that way as well. Railcar passing by was a bonus for this round too imo.
Yeah the 105 and 55 are my go-to combo. Really can get everything I need with those two focal lengths. Thanks for checking out the vid 👊🏼
I'm surprised you didn't walk up to the 'horses'; great view and shots up there.
Haha still healing up from a knee surgery had to take it easy
love the shot at 5:24!
i was just about to comment the same thing, it’s a great picture
Thank you guys 🙏🏻
Dang what a good day of photos. Amazing shots Brae!
Thanks dude :)
Love your videos!!
Thank you!
Love your videos Brae, thanks for everything!
Thanks for watching!!
Another amazing video!!!
Thank you :)
Great video. Yeah, photos were cool but what you had to say about the fear in asking for a photo REALLY resonated with me and I am sure others.
In your videos when you put yourself out there and ask for a portrait the results have been fantastic. The first shot of the van was a killer photo. And your montage of portraits as you were talking there were some killer photos in there too.
I was at an event in Everett on Monday (Memorial Day). There were some excellent photos of people to be had but I was too chicken shit to ask. And what do I remember most? The regret of not asking.
White Outback the new WRX or a loaner while the “silver streak” gets fixed?
Thanks for making the video but more importantly, thanks for sharing your vulnerability.
Reading comments, clearly I am not alone.
Thank you for this comment, Greg. Been too frustrated with myself not just taking a moment to ask. Feels a lot better at least making the attempt, even if they say no.
And yeah they totaled the WRX so got an Outback for a little more clearance on the forest roads this summer! Thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers!
Great episode bro, and high production value, those fighter low-passes must have cost a fortune. I have to up my RUclips game! 😂❤
Thanks dude! Lucked out big time with those fighters! Stoked I got to see it. Went home and saw the new Top Gun right after 😆
5:24 holy shit… insane shot. Outstanding stuff brae, hope you are well
Thank you dude! 👊🏼
Great pictures honestly, and also really good framing on the video shots. By the way, you also did a great job color matching the drone shots with the rest of the shots. Keep it up!
Thank you for the kind feedback!
nailed it today
Thanks Ian!
Bring on the portraits!
Bringing 'em!!
Thumbnail is on point ☺️👌🏽✨
Also the bud incident is hilarious but meant to be to get it that third try 🤘🏽
Such a classic lol... Glad it worked out!
I know what you mean about asking strangers for photos. It's a fear I want to overcome sooner rather than later. Regarding portraits, I've done a few portrait shoots on film (in parallel with digital) and loving the results, especially on slide film. The last scans I had back were on Provia 100F (fantastic skin tones!!), and I have a roll each of Ektachrome and Gold in the lab now. The models I work with seem to love the novelty bonus of getting some vintage looking scans in addition to the more clinical digital images. Almost like two shoots in one. I'm still getting used to slide film because it's fairly tricky to meter
Sounds super rad, David! Portraits on slide film... Something I have yet to try! I imagine looking at those positives on the light table is something special! Cheers and happy shooting!
@@BraeHunziker definitely give it a shot 👍👍👍
Love this video!
Thank you :)
Loved the vid! Any plans on making it further East? It would be cool to see you do the Palouse region
Hey Matt! Thanks for watching. And yes, I plan to drive the North Cascade Highway to Winthrop, Chelan, and out by Electric City this summer. Really want to explore that area more!
You're pictures is always amazing 👍😍. btw you have a new car? man team subi all the way 😁👍
Thanks dude! Haha yeah, wrx got totaled so got an outback
@@BraeHunziker oh man that sad to hear but glad your okay 👍
Brae you killin it, love seeing all the PNW reppin
Thanks James!
s/o Moses Lake!! haha my hometown come thru anytime bro 👍🏼
Haha dude I will this summer for sure!
What happened to the 67ii ??? And…I’m thinking if the Scummit Inn’s parking lot looks like it does…what the heck do their rooms look like and do people check in and not check out?!?!
67ii is getting repaired :/ hoping to get it back in the next couple of weeks.
And I often wonder the same thing haha! The things that go on there...
Brae you forgot your camera on the side of the road
Love that shoot 5:23
Thanks Miguel!
You have an eye for portraits.
Thank you!
The struggle is real!
(But great video nevertheless).
We always out here struggling
If mirror lock up was a video
Hey Brae, how often do you find yourself using the 200mm lens? I have the 105 and the 55 now, not sure if something longer would be used enough. But I’m very curious and can see myself finding a use for it. Or maybe is fomo lol who knows
I hate having a shots interrupted before i get my video camera set up so i started taking the photo first and videoing afterwards. granted because of that i have forgotten to video a few times!
anyways solid video mate! always enjoy a good film adventure 👌
Definitely a smart move haha. I do that as well if it’s a really “in the moment” type of situation. Thanks for watching! Cheers 🍻
You're a comp god
Dude. No word on the new car?!
WRX is gone, the Outback is here haha! Needed some more clearance for the trails this summer... There was no hope in fixing the WRX, insurance wouldn't have any of it. Worked out for the better honestly.
Did the Impreza get replaced by an Outback?
Yes sir!
Jet photography by Pentax 67;)
Haha yes indeed
A collection of unlucky moment I ever seen in this channel 🤣
Haha it happens...
Is it Sunday already?
Haha little discombobulated this week apparently...
I too have hesitated asking strangers to take their photo partly because I feel I’m intruding into their personal space and also because I’m a man people especially women may think I have some ulterior motives. So I’m working on people skills and we’ll see if I make more portraits
All you can do is ease into it and convey the assurance of good intention :)
where's the wrx?
Got totaled a couple months ago! Someone rear ended me doing 40 at a red light lol
where is your pentax 6x7ii?
Getting repaired :/ Should be getting it back soon.
