    Jack, there is a modification for that pressed washer on the back panel of the door handle that cracks and pulls loose. I saw it on Airstream Nuts & Bolts RUclips channel. Great video on your installation although the black on black was hard to see. Thank you for making these educational videos. Safe travels!

      Sorry about the black on black. I have seen the mod you mentioned but I like this solution a little better. Appreciate the commend and thanks for watching.

    Why do you need to install the handle if the other installed part is supposed to prevent getting locked out/in?

    • @LandingZoneHome
      @LandingZoneHome  9 месяцев назад

      Good question and the answer is; if you use the door handle to pull the door closed over time that handle will come off and you will be locked in. By adding the additional handle you can avoid this problem. Let me know if you have other questions and thank you for the question.

      @@LandingZoneHome Airstream Co. told me to lock both before traveling. Just thought I would ask and see. I saw someone else had a similar question in the general comments section. Is it possible to get more information on this? Dave.

      @@somedayistodayrv Okay, anything to keep my viewers happy :) I just tried it and turning the key is a little hard but it did lock but I wouldn't force it. I think it will depend on how close you install the blocker to your inside latch. You can reach out to Rob Mousel (on Airstream Addicts) the maker and ask him. But my recommendation regardless of what Airstream says is to NEVER use the handle latch lock. After all, Airstream just makes these thing they are NOT the experts on how to us an Airstream, we the owners are. Thanks for the question, I'm sure others will be interested also.

    I just bought and installed this kit. The handle template did not align exactly with the handle posts, but I was able to make the needed adjustment. Also, there is a spacer sheet (gasket) under the latch panel. I installed the handle closer to the top edge of the latch plate and the spacer interfered with the upper left screw head. I was able to route the space to provide clearance for the screw head. Alignment of the Lockout Blocker is important. You only get one chance with 3M VHB adhesive pad.

      Some great lessons learned here Bruce. And to be completely honest, I installed mine too low and immediately used a flat blade screwdriver to removed the 3M Sticky and it went back on just fine. :) But you have a very good point about the spacer gasket. Thanks for watching.

    So I wonder if these issues are present from the very beginning or do they start locking you in/out over time? I just bought a 2017 with no known lock problems. Just wondering if that’s a good sign we won’t have this issue.

      @@LandingZoneHome Even driving down the road? I have the exact set up- door opens from left to right and I bought the kit from Rob. I installed the handle months ago because I was concerned that yanking on that door handle was going to be a problem eventually ( has AS modified that archaic design?🤷🏼‍♂️) but I only just got around to installing the “lockout preventer”. Has anyone been able to lock (and unlock) the door handle from the outside?
