    I thought the transmission oil had to be at 140 degrees, before the filter change. Is that true? Thank. Informative video

    Quick question...I just watched a video where a guy cut out a spot for an access panel for DCT servicing. Would you recommend that? Looks like it would cut down on the labor drastically!!

    Always informative. I did let my dealer change my filter and was under $300. Transmission drain and fill was $700. Don't think I will ever try the drain and flush but your video makes the DIY filter change doable. Thanks for your videos!

    I’m going to do this myself as well. The first filter change was done by the dealer for free at 3450 miles before the two years was up. Not worried about the service computer initiated flush. I guess you didn’t have any trouble getting the filter bolts back in but you should have chased the threads on the DCT bolt holes with something to get any remaining lock tite out of the hole. I plan on using a copper .22 caliber bore brush when I do mine. Great video.

    Would it not be easy to cut out a circle on the belly pan to gain access to the DCT filter for the next time. We could put a rubber plug on the cut out so no dirt gets in there.

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  Месяц назад +2

      It would be very easy. Im assuming GM did not make an easy access port for the transmission for two reasons: they didn't want people farting with the filter as you do need some finesse to take it off & torquing it down in "inch lbs" and secondly to deter people from doing their own maintenance I.E. a money grab.

      I like the idea of a large rubber plug 5 to 6 inches in diameter, there is a video of a Guy making the square hole and using a hinged cover from Tanks inc.

    I did this myself right at 7500 due to it being past the time frame for Chevy to cover.. it was pretty easy, about a 6/10!on the DIY scale… toughest part was taking the filter cover off, I just wiggled it back and forth and it popped off.. excellent video! I used the ramps as well..

    • @dannguyen7021
      @dannguyen7021 2 месяца назад +1

      Did you have to use low profile ramps? I'm thinking of getting the ramps at adv auto parts but not sure if it'll scrape the front lip

    • @advancedhittingtraining8233
      @advancedhittingtraining8233 22 дня назад +3

      I use the regular ramps but I use a jack to lift the car and then setup the ramp under the tire and lower the jack so the car sits on the ramps. I don’t drive the car thru the ramps.

    14:02 If you were to do this again would you do the fill prior to putting the plate back on? Because even though it might not be much, the overflow drops onto the plate and can't be wiped off.

  • @AirRyanTX

    Good video. I was wondering how important it may be to have the car level when doing this or an oil change. I saw at least one photo of a dealer tech adding DCT fluid to that fill plug above the DCT filter, with a small hose, while the filter is out. I wouldn't encourage going in from the side like that. When you do the DCT fluid change, you can get Pentosin FFL-4 in 5L jugs and two of them should fill you back up to where you need to be. Little cheaper buying it in 5L jugs. Same stuff that comes in the AC Delco bottles.

    You didn't hook up a scan tool and run the flush procedure which is mandatory before changing the filter.

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  17 дней назад

      That is a fallacy that was started in some forum or dealership. Per GM the flush is not mandatory at the 7500 mile filter change. Reference this video if you are still not convinced. (The is the lead engineer on the C8).

    We were told from GM the filter change could be done wtihin a 500 mile window at 7000 to 8000 miles. Not sure where you were told it must be done again exactly at 7500. Mine was replaced at 7300 miles and was told by the dealer we were good under warranty.

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  15 дней назад +2

      The plus or minus 500 miles is a 'newer' bulletin released by GM shortly after I made this video. Before then it was the wild west and no one had a straight answer. I did not want to take any chances and this was the easiest way to circumvent any confusion. Also, I've learned to never trust a dealer as most are just lip service to get you on your way. Until the bulletin was released there was no standardization across dealers and some were charging for the service, some were not, some would do it at 3000 miles and say you were all set where others would not touch it until at least 7500 miles etc etc. Also, some required the flush and other dealerships didn't (not required @ 7500 miles). 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @jackcarroll8709
    @jackcarroll8709 10 дней назад

    As always I appreciate your video. With all the maintenance you do, don't you have a battery powered ratchet? That would ease the pain of laying on your back doing all those bolts for sure. You don't need to spend alot for those (although you can for commercial work). My extended reach Ryobi (not sponsored) has been more than adequate and means I don't always need as much disassembly to reach the target bolt. I have a C8, C5, and a C3 and would have given up my own work years ago without the ratchet as I'm 74 and the hands don't act like they used to unfortunately.

    Just had my first service done but I will have to change the DCT filter again at 7500 miles. (Needed to use my free service before it expired) Shifts are noticeably smoother after the filter change. If I had a lift I would do it myself.

      @@johnyoung4466I just noticed this was for the DCT filter. I thought you commented on the oil change video. You need a torque wrench in inch pounds (not foot pounds.). You can get one @ harbor freight for around $30. The torque spec is 51inch pounds. Very important.

      The little aluminum fill plug bolt? It was not very tight and it is aluminum so I snugged it with my hand and did a quarter turn with the socket. Be careful as it's soft.

    OK you changed the filter at 7500mi but what about the required"flush". That also is required at 7500mi to maintain the warranty.

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  3 месяца назад +2

      There is no 'required flush' and no where does it state a hydraulic flush is mandatory in conjunction with the canister filter for warranty purposes. A dealer will perform a hydraulic flush simply because they can while doing filter service. Per the top 3 C8 engineers the C8 automatically flushes particulates through the filter periodically while driving. Now, at the 3 year mark from manufacturing or 45k miles the fluid MUST be changed. I obviously will not reach 45k miles by next year so I will be draining and filling it myself next December. I really feel tremec and the C8 team is being overly cautious as the fluid coming out even at 45k miles looks brand new.

  • @roymoxley2587
