I have to second that too. Kira was stuck with a very toxic idea that the first war scarred him with. After that Orphee's playing on his insecurities and forcing the woman he loved to order a strike on him was almost enough to send him off the deep end. Naturally what he went through was heartbreaking. But Athrun, decking him around like that, was out of anger born of worry,because he and Cagalli made the same mistake; instead of communicating when they should have, they danced around the problem and both of them nearly paid the price with a ruined relationship. And his poor communication skills are also what caused a rift between Shinn and led to him having a mental slippage last time. He had to beat those toxic ideas that were never his friend's to begin with out of his head and bring him to his senses, so that he can finally stop placing all that baggage on himself and unwittingly segregating himself from his own friends.

Kira is definitely in a hard time and desperate to pull Lacus back from Orphee, and Athrun is needed to punch him out of this situation. For me, as a Cosmic Era fan, this scene is so much satisfying since Kira never had a real fight in person with someone before. This time, the writer makes things right - to have him face Athrun, a true combatant, a soldier of ZAFT, a true friend, and let Athrun get Kira out of his misery.

I'm enjoying the Hilda x Shinn interactions really. Shinn is such a good dude and character. I like all the funny and awkward stuff I've seen between him and Hilda in the movie clips I've seen so far.

Athrun gave Kira a wake up call. He could take Kira mopping about war never ending (they all had it up here with that same old bullshit). But when he started blabbing about Lacus leaving him for some womanizer who she met just a few days earlier, that she betrayed them after everything they went through together, was partaking in the same thing they all defied together and tought she no longer loves him because he ,,failed to prove himself worthy", ohhhhh, he couldn't stand that. Also, of those alive, Athrun has known, truly known Lacus the longest. Kira needed to get kicked out of his depression. Also, the way Athrun said ,,Haven't you ever considered her feelings?" and advised Kira to ask Lacus if she still cares for him, reminds of GSD and how Athrun refused to acknowledge Shinns feelings for Stella, ignored how he (S) really felt, made prejudical assumptions without pressing him to explain what's the matter (just how Kira presumed Lacus doesn't love him anymore without asking her to explain her feelings), which led to the collaps of their relationship and Shinn getting closer to Rey and Durandall. Athrun must now know about Stella, meaning he might have apologised to Shinn for his strict and callous behavior. I don't see them having their current, less unpleasant relationship otherwise. 1 59 Murrue: Kids.
In a drama CD after gundam seed destiny, they(Shinn and Athrun) kind of had a talk. There were pretty interesting and fun content in those CDs, worth a watch! There are subbed versions on RUclips somewhere. :)
At 3:18 to me that was like a reference from that scene from Shrek after he apologizes to donkey and ask’s him what Fiona was talking about, donkey tells him why are you asking me? You should ask her yourself. That gave me that good old classic vibe from that movie.
In a one on one hand to hand fight Athrun mops the floor with Kira since Athrun had plenty of millitary training, not only is it satisfying to see someone knock Kira off his high horse, but help him stop trying to be a one man army (before he get's a gundam that's basiclly that anyway) Shinn is a lot better in this movie than the anime, but i suppose he's had time to mellow out, or calm down a little. Athrun was MVP of this movie.

Personal theory: Out of all the deaths he witnessed, Flay’s death haunted Kira the most. This could explain why he’s more like Heero than Amuro in GSD; he clearly didn’t want Lacus and Cagalli (the CE’s counterparts to Relena) to end up like Flay.
The director had stated that Kira was an emotional wreck throughout the Destiny because all deaths he saw. Aside from Flay, the little girl civilian he failed to protect may haunt him too. It's often easy to forget that Kira is more sensitive emotionally compared to Athrun and he was a civilian dragged into war. Having survivors' guilt while trying to lay low doesn't help his psyche. His whole stoicism in Destiny was none other than tough front. Unfortunately because he felt that he had to be strong and didn't want to be pitied, it bubbled up, resulting to this. This movie if anything, finally brought out Kira and Lacus more humane and vulnerable side and that they have their own issue just like everyone else.
Kira : I can't even make her (Lacus) smile Kira always at the frontline. He fought the battle in a foreign, god forsaken land while Lacus waited back at home. She was alone in that big comfy house. Of course she cannot smile. Even a warm palace will be frozen cold if there is no love inside it.
this scene made me so happy, kira in destiny was one self righteous prick but no one had a good enough reason to give him a beating. athrun punching kira was really satisfying to me, not to mention shinn getting punched by both of them was funny as hell lmao
From the very first series he had a tremendous sense of responsibility. Because everybody's expectations were always on his shoulders to keep them safe, he was forced to stifle his own feelings for a long time. The strain on his body and mind was immense. If Athrun hadn't shown up and helped him see that he wasn't alone any more and had people to count on, he would have ended up in the exact same place as Char Aznable and Master Asia in the past
Everyone has to also remember Athrun is partly to blame for Kira having that mindset in the first place. During this time as a zaft soldier, he was always trying to fight and destroy the archangel on Patrick Zala's orders. He was so consumed by a dangerous mindset himself he couldn't tell that what Kira was trying to tell him was the truth; that his friends from heliopolis were still on the ship. And even Lacus, who was engaged to Athrun at the time, called him out on that because she actually spent time with them. But because Kira was the only capable Ms pilot at that time, he was forced to constantly beat back attackers left and right. But for those of us who've seen Gundam seed from the very first season to this movie, we know for a fact that those two are the same and one regard; they don't fight merely to kill their enemies, only to protect their loved ones. That's why it hurts so badly when they fail. Gilbert Durandal and Orphe Lam Tao were aware of their pain and insecurities, just as a parasites in the orb Union council, and Orphe were aware of Lacus and Cagalli's selflessness. They manipulated them with it. The expected to turn the two against each other, and even worse yet, break their hearts.
Fukuda saw all the Jesus Yamato allegations, and thought; I'll do fucking better. While this movie may have had problems, pacing, cliche, and some plot holes, one of the best aspects is that this movie made Kira vulnerable because he's Jesus Yamato. He feels like because he's the ultimate hero, he has to be the one to save the world and to shoulder all its evils, at the cost of his social life and his relationship with Lacus. The ending of Destiny hit him hard mentally, where he feels burdened to maintain a world of peace while people have free will at the same time. Greatness comes at a cost, and that's by being isolated by everyone else around you, and because of that, you think you have to protect everyone else because you think they're less superior than you, and are more vulnerable than you. Kira needs a break, and to finally depend on his friends again. Amuro's final speech to Char in CCA was right, and while it's in a different universe, his point was proven, and Kira was an example of that. He tried to replace the Destiny plan by creating a world with peace and freedom at the same time, but when conflict returns, Kira isolates himself socially and mentally. Very similar to Amuro's speech, where he says that when revolutions are replaced with mediocrity, the revolutionaries themselves eventually isolate themselves. The difference with Kira and Char, is that Kira has a motive in creating peace, and is that he can keep Lacus happy, while Char, on the other hand, never believed in his ideals after Zeta, and only used them to draw Amuro closer to him, just so he could take revenge over Lalah's death. And unlike Char, Kira still has people he could care for, and to have him brought back to his senses and to understand his feelings, like Athrun. Char doesn't have any relationships. He takes advantage of young girls who are horny for him, and his relationship with Nanai may or may not be plastic, and I think he was just using her as a substitute for Lalah, someone he could use to vent his emotions, but he never really had real feelings for her.
Thank you, Gundam SEED Freedom, for acknowledging the ''Kira Jesus Yamato'' thing and not only addressing his savior complex for the conceited, mentally unhealthy fool's errand that it is and always was, but also using it as a crucial piece of character conflict and growth in this scene. Athrun gives Kira both the ''Get the fuck over yourself already!'' that he needed, but also the affirmation of friendship and support he would need going forward.
Kira-kun, you don't have to shoulder the burdens alone! Or do you need another few hits to your head just to do it? You and Lacus-san just have to understand each other more!
If there's another Gundam Seed Sequel with the name Justice nextime and Atrhun was being Gutless like this I'm afraid Kira won't be able to bring a sense out of Athrun like how Atrhun is doing to Kira right now
To be fair, Seed Destiny is not exactly well-written and would even have characters doing uncharacteristic things for the sake of just pushing the plot along.

皆が命懸けで闘っているのに、「アーク・エンジェルを護れるのは【僕】しかいない…」と思い込む考え方から全然成長していなかった事を、ラクスの件でアスランに叩き直されたのだと思うが、キラがダサいのではなく「真面目で優しい正義感」のある考えをする人なら、誰でもこういう経験があると思える。

SEED時代はみんなキラに頼らざるを得なかったし、誰も本気でキラに向き合ってくれるだけの仲間がいなかったし、種デスでは半ば精神が摩耗しきってたし。

それを考えると、アスランは1発はもらって欲しかったし、あるいはアスラン自らが言ったように、ぶん殴るんじゃなくて「言葉で説得する」という選択肢を取るべきだったかもな。まあ、キラの本音を吐き出させるためなのは分かるがな。
そもそもアスランは14歳からザフトの士官学校で鍛えられてきた生粋の職業軍人。

今のキラをアスランがやらんかったら小説で、ヒルダがキラを殴るつもりでいたらしい。(アスランとメイリンはヒルダの殺気に凍り付いた程なくらい。)実際に此処で、キラとアスランの殴り合いをやらんかったらキラがラクスは僕たちを裏切ったの台詞のループにずっと聞かされるのはうんざりになるまでに聞かされる身な上に、ファウデーション王国に自分を嵌めた相応なつけを(打倒壊滅)一生叶わないままレクイエムでオーブに打たれる運命から逃れられないまま死亡フラグになるのが明らかさまである。キラの修正はアスランによってようやく(前作までの経験値で)他人にやっても(アスランの問題点が原因で役立たずだった為)駄目やったのにキラ相手にやっと本音を吐き出させるくらいまでにやってくれたのである。
@@めんもん-m4eもちろん理解できなくはない。そこまでしなければ、キラのセリフを延々と聞く事になるし、ファウンデーションにオーブを討たれるし、アスランでなければ出来ない事ではある。
ただ、それでもやっぱり個人的に、どうしてもアスランには、何かしら事件解決後、キラに殴った事を謝るなり、殴るんなら自分も1発は殴られる覚悟は決めて欲しかった。その事に関して、キラが「誰にも言いたくても言えない状況」だったのは、アスランはせめて気にして欲しかったぐらいだし。
そもそも私から見ても、キラが抱え込みがちなのは分かるとしても「誰かに頼れ」ってのは、何で周りも言わないんだよって思うし、これまでのアークエンジェル時代から「そもそも頼れる状況なのか」って突っ込みたくなる。
ただ、種死から途中参戦してきたヒルダに関しては、事情をそこまで知らないだろうし、ラクス様への敬愛を考えれば、キラを殴りたくなる気持ちも理解できる(ただし逆にそうなったら、キラは本音を吐き出せずに謝るしか出来ないだろうな)。
シンはそう言えば、彼なりに「俺に任せてください」を態度で毎回示してて、何なら彼らの中でも「アスランが来る前に、キラの本音に寄り添おうとしてた」からな。シンも「何で頼らないんですか？」と言いたくなりそうだけど、そのキラではなく、彼をぶん殴ったアスランにブチ切れてたのも「こんなに抱えた状態のキラにそこまでするな」って意味だったのかもな。
キラにとってアスランはやっぱり最高の親友ですね。

this scene made me so happy, kira in destiny was one self righteous prick but no one had a good enough reason to give him a beating. athrun punching kira was really satisfying to me, not to mention shinn getting punched by both of them was funny as hell lmao

I wasn't ready to see Kira throwing a tantrum like that
From the very first series he had a tremendous sense of responsibility. Because everybody's expectations were always on his shoulders to keep them safe, he was forced to stifle his own feelings for a long time. The strain on his body and mind was immense.
If Athrun hadn't shown up and helped him see that he wasn't alone any more and had people to count on, he would have ended up in the exact same place as Char Aznable and Master Asia in the past
Everyone has to also remember Athrun is partly to blame for Kira having that mindset in the first place. During this time as a zaft soldier, he was always trying to fight and destroy the archangel on Patrick Zala's orders. He was so consumed by a dangerous mindset himself he couldn't tell that what Kira was trying to tell him was the truth; that his friends from heliopolis were still on the ship. And even Lacus, who was engaged to Athrun at the time, called him out on that because she actually spent time with them. But because Kira was the only capable Ms pilot at that time, he was forced to constantly beat back attackers left and right. But for those of us who've seen Gundam seed from the very first season to this movie, we know for a fact that those two are the same and one regard; they don't fight merely to kill their enemies, only to protect their loved ones. That's why it hurts so badly when they fail.
Gilbert Durandal and Orphe Lam Tao were aware of their pain and insecurities, just as a parasites in the orb Union council, and Orphe were aware of Lacus and Cagalli's selflessness. They manipulated them with it. The expected to turn the two against each other, and even worse yet, break their hearts.
The disrespect to shinn even 20 year later is crazy.

Fukuda saw all the Jesus Yamato allegations, and thought; I'll do fucking better. While this movie may have had problems, pacing, cliche, and some plot holes, one of the best aspects is that this movie made Kira vulnerable because he's Jesus Yamato. He feels like because he's the ultimate hero, he has to be the one to save the world and to shoulder all its evils, at the cost of his social life and his relationship with Lacus. The ending of Destiny hit him hard mentally, where he feels burdened to maintain a world of peace while people have free will at the same time. Greatness comes at a cost, and that's by being isolated by everyone else around you, and because of that, you think you have to protect everyone else because you think they're less superior than you, and are more vulnerable than you. Kira needs a break, and to finally depend on his friends again. Amuro's final speech to Char in CCA was right, and while it's in a different universe, his point was proven, and Kira was an example of that. He tried to replace the Destiny plan by creating a world with peace and freedom at the same time, but when conflict returns, Kira isolates himself socially and mentally. Very similar to Amuro's speech, where he says that when revolutions are replaced with mediocrity, the revolutionaries themselves eventually isolate themselves. The difference with Kira and Char, is that Kira has a motive in creating peace, and is that he can keep Lacus happy, while Char, on the other hand, never believed in his ideals after Zeta, and only used them to draw Amuro closer to him, just so he could take revenge over Lalah's death. And unlike Char, Kira still has people he could care for, and to have him brought back to his senses and to understand his feelings, like Athrun. Char doesn't have any relationships. He takes advantage of young girls who are horny for him, and his relationship with Nanai may or may not be plastic, and I think he was just using her as a substitute for Lalah, someone he could use to vent his emotions, but he never really had real feelings for her.
I would say to Kira: Stop simping
Maybe in the next series kira will fully train into a super soldier

Thank you, Gundam SEED Freedom, for acknowledging the ''Kira Jesus Yamato'' thing and not only addressing his savior complex for the conceited, mentally unhealthy fool's errand that it is and always was, but also using it as a crucial piece of character conflict and growth in this scene. Athrun gives Kira both the ''Get the fuck over yourself already!'' that he needed, but also the affirmation of friendship and support he would need going forward.

To be fair, Seed Destiny is not exactly well-written and would even have characters doing uncharacteristic things for the sake of just pushing the plot along.
