Back then, they chose good spokespeople. Unlike nowadays. I still have no idea who thought it was a good idea to use Kendall Jenner, of all people, as their spokeswoman...
At 5:15 is where Micheal Jackson’s whole life changed, he burned his hair in this Pepsi concert, and got rushed to the hospital, that was the day that caused his death and changed him forever, and I think he went back to doing the takes with his brothers like a year later.
9:03 I'm impressed they could actually get the name coke on that bottle in a commercial they're literally dissing it in. The last couple of commercials did the same thing lol.
5:38 in BOOM that's where MJ's hair caught fire, back in the day. I was living and working in NYC at a recording studio working on these spots. We were waiting for the timings from the final shoot when we heard the news from LA. Al the ad agency guys were freaking out. LOL!!! But poor Michael.
If I recall correctly reports were that on the previous take they did (the one that was ultimately used in the commercial) the spot's producer didn't feel that the "moment" was captured well enough and asked Michael to walk out onto to the stage slower with more pyrotechnics. They tried it...with disastrous results.
Perfect! Never thought about giving children from the age of 2 some ice cold caffeine & sugar packedPepsi from their sippy cup. “Why is my baby up all night crying?” It’s gotta be Pepsi!
Ahaha brilliant! The part of the commercial that they are in the future and the girl finds a bottle of Coca Cola and asks the teacher what it is, the teacher replies: I have no idea Lol. Commercials of the time distilled creativity
A commercial I haven’t been able to find was an incredibly popular 1980s Diet Pepsi commercial (no music) that featured a teen boy and girl talking to each other about a party last night. It featured mostly extreme closeups (not even the full face) of each of them during the informal exchange and then cutaways to a closeup of a can of Diet Pepsi in her hand, his k-Swiss sneakers, etc. The conversation was a bit cryptic, him asking why she didn’t come to the party and will she be at the next one, or something like that. And it ended with him saying that so-and-so will be there at the party. And she says, “Okay, but he’s why I didn’t show up last night.” Does that ring a bell?
they did not have the one I was looking for... it was a different beach one. It had some guy running up out of the waves and a girl wraps a towel around him... but to some little old ladies I knew, that ad was a shock... "there was a naked man on the television" was how they saw it. I guess they had never heard of Speedos. These old ladies were old maid school teachers ( yes, literally) and told me they remembered doing basic arithmetic in the form of 1 + 2 EQUALS 3, rather than 1 +2 = 3... having to write out the word, not having a symbol for that. I would like to find that old ad again to have a laugh over how times change. Had the ladies not already been dead and buried for years, they might have had strokes over Baywatch.
I wondered what kind of ungodly amount of money Pepsi paid for this. Turns out they forked over the equivalent of about $14,000,000 in today's money to Michael Jackson for his participation in this ad campaign just in 1981.
Never thought a bunch of commercials would bring back so many great memories and feelings.
I wish the 80s never ended. 😫
I wish I could've had the glory of being raised in the 80's, instead of today's shitty world...
Yes the 1980s was the greatest decade in the history of mankind
that means the soviet union will still exist.
Exactly

But it could be repeatable
Billie Jean in Pepsi generation is so charming, I mean MJ is so charming 😘
Back then, they chose good spokespeople. Unlike nowadays. I still have no idea who thought it was a good idea to use Kendall Jenner, of all people, as their spokeswoman...
That explosion screw-up on the stage, caught in his second video, kind of messed his relationship with Pepsi, though.
Libertyjack1 he didn’t even like Pepsi he didn’t drink it he hated doing the commercials too
@@bathtub560 in fact he liked coke Michael heheh secret so that pepsi does not get jealous
Let’s just hope time machines will be made so we can go back in time to the 80s. Back then it was funner
I'm ready to go back to the 1980's and stay there.
Me too. Personally, I’m not too keen with the 2020s. I hate the 21st century.
The Jackson Five with Michael Jackson, these are super nice 1980's Pepsi commercials!
At 5:15 is where Micheal Jackson’s whole life changed, he burned his hair in this Pepsi concert, and got rushed to the hospital, that was the day that caused his death and changed him forever, and I think he went back to doing the takes with his brothers like a year later.

4:33 that's a decent moonwalk
The announcer on some of these Pepsi commercials, primarily the "Choice of A New Generation" commercials, sounds like Martin Sheen.
Yes, it was Martin Sheen. I was in the last commercial in the "diner". This copy doesn't have the voice over of MS but the main copy did.
Perfect! Never thought about giving children from the age of 2 some ice cold caffeine & sugar packedPepsi from their sippy cup.

The one with the moon walking featured all 5 members of The Jacksons. (Even during MJ’s solo years, his bros were still at it!)
So much cocaine at the pitch meeting for these commercials.
