  • I was just dicking around in the 1992-08-21 prototype of Sonic 2, when I noticed that the Stegway I placed on a perilously placed chunk wrapped around on the Y-axis, instead of disappearing. I hope to demonstrate, with this video, that Y-axis level wrapping was implemented at least for badniks with this video, comparing first the Wai prototype, and second, the 1992-08-21 prototype, using the unclimbable ramp (and a fleet of Redz badniks).

Interesting... so Hidden Palace actually _was_ worked on a bit before being canned.
Crazy how new discoveries are being made just about every single day,.

Someone just sended a link to this video and this is interesting to watch ngl.
But one important thing that we learned about this is:
    *These Dinossaurs can now climb*

I mean they clearly worked on it if they changed the song the level uses to track 10 (90 in beta) later on

That's the thing that I'm sure many people find perplexing - that the song was in the sound test from the 1993-08-21 prototype ... perhaps it was in fact meant to be used in a cutscene at some point in the stage, and that is why it wasn't implemented here, maybe not - that it was changed to sound test 10 in even later prototypes, IMO, is even more perplexing.

@@DanknDerpyGamer I find another thing even more perplexing. Regarding Sound Test 10, I will never not get mad at Taxman for what he did with Hidden Palace's music in the 2013 S2 remake. Instead of going with Sound Test 10 (consistent with the FINAL ROM's cut HPZ) he actually had the audacity to use the Mystic Cave 2P music instead. Can you F-ing believe this? Having this one chance... one shot at releasing a proper HPZ, with Sega's blessing and all, and sticking the placeholder beta music instead of the beautiful, OBVIOUSLY INTENDED FOR HPZ #10?!

@@TheHidingHider yeah he put the final ROM's music in the "proto palace" but stuck the proto music in the "final palace". That makes no sense.

@@NTxC Firstly, I don't think the 2P Mystic Cave theme were a placeholder theme for Hidden Palace in the prototypes.
Secondly, Oil Ocean uses 2P Casino Night theme in the prototypes. Thirdly, the final version of Hidden Palace's theme actually exists since the Aug. 21 build of Sonic 2, *Hidden Palace still uses 2P Mystic Cave theme in that build until the CENSOR build although the music that were used in the final version exists.*

Do you mean add a comparison between these prototypes, and how it ought to look / does in the 2013 remake?

I think I tested this and y-axis wrapping does not work in Proto Palace Zone in the remake
But it was like 4 years ago
