About twenty years ago i was fortunate to have a very good friend who made me discover Nantucket island...I have always kept Nantucket in my heart...thank you ladies for this lovely walk up Main Street.
My GOODNESS that was interesting! , I grew up with Nantucket. My cousins went to Nantucket Island high school and graduated of course. And we just took it for granted when we visited them. Auntie was there as a widow and we went occasionally but I never really had an explanation of any of it in this depth. I took it for granted. My aunt did not but I did thank you (I am now 81 years old)
After meeting someone in California who was from the Hamptons, I have a fascination with all these northeast seaside communities now. They have a unique beauty and so much history.
I was just reading Moby Dick when I came across this exhortation: “Nantucket! Take out your map and look at it. See what a real corner of the world it occupies . . .” Well, I went to Google maps and images, and eventually drifted into the interesting harbor of your informative video. Very cheerfully and nicely done! Thank you. Your tour gave real life to Melville’s portrait of this picturesque and historic town - so much more significant in American history than I realized. P.S., After I’ve read a couple of more chapters, I look forward to visiting the whaling museum you mentioned.
In the summer of 1966, I worked as a lifeguard at Cliffside Beach Club during my summer break at college. I absolutely loved my experience there and would love to return. These two ladies gave a most interesting presentation.
Great presentation ladies I live in RI and have been boating my entire 62 yrs I have been to Nantucket 100 times and never learned so much as I have with your tour Thank You for Shedding more light
I found your video bc I’m reading a fiction Christmas novel and was intrigued by it. Nantucket is gorgeous! I’m from Maui, HI. And we had our own whaling village called Lahaina. As you may know now, the town was tragically lost via a horrific fire this past year. Thanks for sharing this wonderful and beautiful place of Nantucket. It is a stunning place filled with rich and fascinating history. Aloha!
What a great video. It brings back warm memories of the 1970's when I was teaching in Lincoln, Mass. and worked with Betty Little. She and her husband John had a family summer home in Nantucket town and I was invited there on numerous occasions. Thanks for the memories!
Dear Peggy Godwin and Miranda Dale, thank you so very much for such lovely, delightful and informative tour of Nantucket, I was there several times between 1978-1984 while I lived in Connecticut and my children were very young. Beautiful place, this video makes me feel like going back for another visit. Thank you again.
Such a lovely little video - many thanks to the history telling ladies. When I lived in Connecticut many years ago I always enjoyed delving into the history & this took me back to the New England pride in their roots !
This is fascinating. I'm hoping to move to New Hampshire within the next five years and a long weekend trip to Nantucket (and other historical locales of New England) with my kids would be a definite as soon as possible.
I have found videos on Nantucket in the last couple of days and, I have say it looks to be a beautiful island. Your video is brilliant and informative, with a very polished, professional narrative. Thank you for your video and for your time Keep safe, be happy.
Great video learned a lot…especially the names of the stairwells and what I thought was widows walk…there are similar houses in my hometown of warren Rhode Island…
This is a great video on historic Nantucket! A part of our country I’ve never visited. Love the architecture. But especially enjoyed the pairing of Peggy Godwin and Miranda Dale, of the NHA who wonderfully described this beautiful island. Thank you
I enjoyed this video very much, such interesting information re the history of the island. I had no idea how many Quakers were here. I am from Quakers in Bucks Cty, Pa. and would sure like to see Nantucket.
Can you please do another video that includes a romp through some of the restaurants and shops as well as some more history? With more excellent drone shots?
I want to thank you girls I was on Nantucket yesterday September 1st 2022 I watch this video as I walked up the street it was like my own private tour I recommend anyone else do the same
Very well done. Excellent camera work and wonderful tour guides. Loved the view of the roofs. We have been to NHA tours and really enjoyed seeing the buildings again.
“Bought by a family called Beinecke”? THE Beinecke Family? Who donated the rare book and manuscript library to Yale? I used to live in a renovated carriage house on West 20th St. between Eighth and Ninth Avenues in NYC across the street from the home of Clark Clement Moore, author of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The carriage house wasn’t visible from the street. One would walk through a small apartment building and across a cobblestoned courtyard. I had a cat that would crawl down a tree that was next to my window and into the window of the apartment below where one of the Beinecke sons lived.
16:57 you said the sisters went to “thrift sales”! I’m from Wisconsin and I’ve never heard that term used outside of Wisconsin. Are you from the midwest by chance?
Fabulous! I have never visited in person but it's safe to say that Nantucket is one of the most ravishing beautiful places on earth. Sort of like a mini Paris, packed with superb architecture, history, culture, glamour, and scenic beauty. This video is a treat.🙂😉🙃❤️
Well done video, how did they get the aerial shots? Spliced together i guess. What’s great too is the lighting. Nice bright crisp snd clean. The two white homes on Main Street are not painted the same color white. One is white-white, the other is more of an ivory like buttercream frosting, and the one next to it is like Pillsbury ready to spread white frosting. Were they always two different whites, or was the buttercream one a recent mistake on someone’s (the paint color chooser’s) part? So much information here. Very interesting snf ive been coming here for about 60 years. Im here now.
As is now the case on Maui, Hawaii, these types of videos are useful in recording the community as it is today. Hope they never have to be used like will be the case for Lahaina.
Thank you so very much - I would have loved to see inside. What most struck me is how those houses show no wear on the paintwork 💁 i would really love to know the secret
excellent presentation ladies!!!! wish I was there. Your narrative is filled with enthusiasm and I'm wondering if you live on the island. Thanks for this great video.
Miranda Dale is a Nantucket native and is the Manager of Visitor Operations at the Nantucket Historical Association. Peggi Godwin is the former Manager of Visitor Operations and has lived on Nantucket and worked with the NHA for over 20 years.
I adore Nantucket. It describes the word quaint with one visit.
this entire island looks like something out of a movie, especially the small cobblestone back roads.
Lots of money
probably because ton's of movies have been filmed on Nantucket.
About twenty years ago i was fortunate to have a very good friend who made me discover Nantucket island...I have always kept Nantucket in my heart...thank you ladies for this lovely walk up Main Street.
I’m going to visit Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard this September. I will definitely see these historic sites while there. Thank you! This was great.
This lady is brilliant. Enjoyed listening her in ferry from Hyannis.
H. Melville sent me here. Nantucket is beautiful!
My favorite place to visit
