Heck even if you put them on correctly, if you have not put them on and taken them off before (or in my case put them on and off one or two times before but never had the lock engage if you are not aware of the lock on the strap and only know of the lock button on the controller it can cause confusion as to why it is not comming off, I never noticed that lock slider on the strap part until watching this video because I normally just use the full controller mount and not the straps but because I recently got Let's Go Eevee and that has mechanics where using the joycon separate makes for quicker xp gain since you get bonus xp for actually "throwing" the pokeball as a pose to just pressing A it was the first game I have played where I having just used either the controller mount of attached to the console itself.

Don’t do this to your switch hold the back button as you remove it .if you don’t you’ll mess up your joy cons and they won’t stick to your switch and just fall off if you bump them
