Should you SOAK nuts in water? | Dr Pal

  • Raw nuts contain phytic acid which helps to protect the seed until it completely germinates. The concern is that this phytic acid when combined with other foods can slightly impair the absorption of minerals.
Soaking the nuts in water overnight in the refrigerator can decrease the phytic acid by 10%.
Nuts in moderation are an extremely good source of essential fatty acids - it is still ok to take nuts without being soaked. If you soak it, you can enjoy the maximum benefit.

@@poojatandon9880I take only home food and nothing else but I still have severe acidity, and have sleepless nights. Reason for acidity is adulterated food, and too much of chemicals, preservatives added to the food and also the genetics of food that is being changed. This is the very and only reason which has increased cancer disease through out the world.

    • @WillsM85
      @WillsM85 6 месяцев назад +1

Phytic acid is resistent to heat. It may help a little but not much. I've read that vitamin C neutralises phytic acid. I am not sure if it's true, but if it is then there are lots of options from eating fruits high in vit c to juices and supplements. Also, phytic acid can be reduced by phytase, which is found in some grains like wheat, rye and buckwheat. If you soak the nuts and seeds in water along with some gound flour from those sources, then the phytase will be released and neutralise some phytic acid. That's my understanding.

The daal should be soacked for at least half an hour ,throw the water away and rinse again .Then add one fourth ts of asefoetida, half ts turmeric and one tb of oil , with three cups of water for one and half cups of daal, bring it to boil.Simmer the gas on low flame.....remove the scum that form over on it..... Once done you can put the lid on the cooker and pressure cook it for three to four whisles(prferentially) .First one whisle on high flame and other three on lower ones........Adding asefoetida and removing scum (in any legumes /pulses) is must ,if you really want to cut down its bloating /gas making /acidic properties .
adding methi daana into the tadaka is anothr best option.

@m.theresa1385 I soak the nuts for 24 hours. I pour off the soaked water, rinse thoroughly to clean , and place a 1 cup ratio to a zip lock sandwich bag to store in the freezer. When I want to make milk without waiting to soak/clean, I can. This saves time and the milk is absolutely delicious. I came up with this idea when my Brazilian nuts would go rancid if they weren't consumed quickly enough. Also, freezing them seems to enhance the flavor and texture. Try it.

You just contradicted yourself you said you that you will lose the Phytic acid in nuts if they are soaked in water, then you said at the end of the video that if you soak the nuts in water than you will get the maximum benefits.

We don't need the phytic acid. It is to protect the seeds like when we soak for sprouts. We throw away that bitter water after overnight soaking. Phytic acid also called phytated reduce absorption of certain minerals and nutrients. So removing them by soaking is beneficial

    Doctor please clarify -
    (i) Should we wash the nuts before soaking in water ?
(ii) Can we drink the water in which the nuts are soaked ?
Also, Cheers to your friend Sarvana Kumar 😊

You can wash before soaking, as they are going to be infused with dirty water then. Also, you can drink water of the raisins or anjeer. That's why you should wash them before. Any soft dry fruit, on soaking infuses its properties with water.

Phytic acid has anti cancer properties. It's also an anti oxidant. Therefore soaking is not needed. Especially walnuts
balanced meals will give enough minerals such as magnesium, zinc etc. So no need to worry about soaking
Also this is not a sustainable lifestyle habit. We might forget 50 percent of the time to soak nuts
