The mother of a friend of mine believes that babies born via caesarean-section don't have souls. I've never been able to figure out if that means they loose their souls, or that only by sliding down the birth canal is when the soul is installed...
Here in Brazil, there was a case of a 10-year-old girl who suffered continuous sexual abuse from her uncle and got pregnant. Her case only became public when the conservative media outlets started to publish it only because her case got thrown into court to allow her to get a legal abortion (in Brazil there´s no Planned Parenthood, and the only way to legally do an abortion is in cases of rape, bad formation of the fetus, and in case of the mother´s health being in danger). The first news about her case were demonizing even the idea of an abortion, even though it was a 10-year-old child. Fortunately, she was able to go through the procedure, but it infuriated a big part of the catholic and christian community. They were more upset and angry about the abortion than the fact that she was abused. In the day of the surgery, the girl´s info got leaked by an extreme right terrorist and people were surrounding the hospital protesting against the surgery and verbally attacking the doctor who volunteered to perform the surgery. They even got as far as calling THE VICTIM a murderer. What pissed me off about the whole incident was that they were madder with the doctor and the justice than they were with the abuser, like they literally ignored the abuser.
That tells you all you need to know about where their morals really are. For people that claim to care so much about children, they sure have no problem with them being used for perverts or being raised in horrible conditions.
I remember something similar happening in argentina. Sadly, the girl was unable to get an abortion and both her and the baby died. It was fucked up, how it could all have been prevented...
“Abortion is our fries and soda” is the funniest line ever to grace cinema and I can’t believe that actress was able to say it without breaking character.
Killing the poor and the sick is America's fries and soda and letting the rich get more powerful is their socialism. Hypocrisy from the right as always.
@@MaximusOrthodox And? There's 8 billion people on this planet. Who cares. No one should have to raise a mistake. Or pay the punishment for a mistake. Life isn't sacred. Life is only precious given the circumstances you have the means to be on board with it. Like consent.
I remember my parents took me to this movie and I came out of it like, "imma go volunteer for planned Parenthood" because I was skeptical of the claims made, and my parents were like "this isn't where we wanted this to go"
So what did you learn from volunteering at PP that discredited the claims in the movie? Or is this just something you made up that didn't actually happen
True. There are so, so many regulations on the handling, storage, and disposal of medical waste, particularly human tissue. That part of the movie was wild.
@@Matthew-pw3ng Medical waste is _not_ stored in barrels, outside. There are several governing bodies that control how medical waste is stored and disposed of, and none allow that sort of haphazard behavior shown in the propaganda film. My research doesn't even involve _human_ tissue and we still have a slew of regulations dictating lab procedures for biohazard materials.
I used to go to Planned Parenthood for birth control and checkups. The staff was always kind. The only part that sucked, was having baby killer screamed at me by the forced birthers who hung out across the street.
There was a group that used to hang out right outside my high school they would give you free hot dogs and then at the bottom of the little paper they would put pictures of dead fetus and botched abortions it didn’t really work tho cause people would take the free food and throw the paper away so they decided to go around the parking lot putting abstains and fetus pictures on peoples cars eventually it became such a big deal that they were no longer allowed on school property they responded to that by harassing our principal for “being a worldly person and a baby killer “even tho the principal was literally a devout catholic who just didn’t want his students to be uncomfortable in school basically you can’t win with these guys
That is wild that they thought it was ok to do that in the first place! I never knew they were slinking around highschools. Of course, they probably didn’t have any pamphlets about birth control, even though that would prevent an abortion in the first place.
That sucks. I'm really sorry. So many people don't realize that most of what PP does is birth control, sex ed, testing, and community outreach. It's called "planned" for a reason. No many people know this but they also *help* people get pregnant, too
seriously, when i went to planned parenthood for hrt they had to have tons of security to keep those ppl out, i was rly worried someone would yell at me or attack me or my sis
yeah last time I went to planned parenthood these old white ladies came outta nowhere telling me that they could help me. I almost knocked that old jackass down how the fuck your religious pamplets gon help me get an std/hiv test fucking idiots. no empathy for me no empathy for you. and I couldn't help but think they were making the abortion assumption because I'm black
As someone who's dabbled in vegetarianism and veganism, I can confirm that having frank conversations about exactly what does and doesn't count as murder is extremely difficult and unpleasant and rather do basically anything else
Yes, I found it interesting that all of the characteristics Big Joel associates with "personhood" apply to animals. I wonder if he's vegan or just morally inconsistent like most of us.
Relatable. I think its a unique type of vegan that fits the stereotype of strident sjw that is always talking about animal rights and the fact that they're vegan. I've been vegan for almost 4 years now and the issues is so intransigent that there has never been anything I would want to talk about less.
another thing to add to the “abortion is our fries and soda” idea is that planned parenthood provides BIRTH CONTROL. birth control = less pregnancy = less abortions. make it make sense
They mention that at the beginning of the movie but never bring it up again. For the rest of the movie they portray Planned Parenthood as mainly an abortion clinic that is dead set on doing more of that. It’s ridiculous.
@@proudheartstudio maybe dont assume my gender cuz you got it wrong. How about you quickly summarize how an abortion is done if you know so well? Describe the surgical and the pill version for me. Guess what? Both end with a dead baby
in Belgium, abortion is legal but there is at the same time a good sex education + free contraceptives for woman up till 18 years. Results 20x less abortions as compared to the States
@My president is Doanld Trump If it were that simple, then Abstinence only education would've solved the problem by now. Pretending that people will just stop having sex is the reason why there are so many unwanted pregnancies.
Here’s how planned parenthood actually works: 1. You call them when you suspect that you are pregnant. 2. They will ask you several questions such as when your last period was, if you have taken a pregnancy test, if you would like to keep this confidential, etc. 3. Based on your answers they will set up a date for you to come in. A FEW DAYS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT, they will call you to give you the risks, potential complications, to gain your consent, to reassure you in anyway, and answer any and ALL of your questions. 4. Once you reach your appointment date you will go there and someone will take your information (just like any other doctors appointment). They will also ask you which method you would like: oral or surgical. Both these methods the person who calls you will explain to you in detail. 5. Before you go in, they take payment. This differs on the state. This is another thing the person will tell you about. 6. Once you have paid and are called in by a nurse, they will take you to a room for you to dress down from the waist down. This is almost like a GYN appointment. They are going to do an ultrasound to check your uterus to see a multitude of things: if it’s safe for you to get an abortion, if you’re even pregnant or if it’s another issue, to guess how far along you are, etc. before they even do this they will ask if you’re comfortable and if you would like to see the screen of the ultra sound. 7. If you are pregnant and they determine it is safe for you, depending on your choice of oral or surgical they will take you to another room and take your vitals. Regular lab work. 8. You will get your procedure done, they will counsel you on aftercare AND THEY WILL SCHEDULE YOU FOR A FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT. They do not just give you the abortion and call it a day. Throughout all of this they will ask you if you’re comfortable. This is based on research and my own personal experience. Never once I have I felt like a villain while getting my procedure done (it turns out I miscarried before my procedure but they were still super nice to me and gave me a urine pregnancy test to be sure). Depending on your clinic they will also ask if you need any counseling which can be covered by your insurance.
@@chrnicgamer How long is the interval between procedure and follow-up? More importantly, do you have to pay for the additional follow-ups, or is that already covered in the initial fee?
@@davidhong1934 It’s important for call as soon as you suspect that you are pregnant. Planned Parenthood will schedule you in on or after your 6th week. For reference I called mid December and had my appointment the 9th of January. If you call early enough this gives you the choice of taking the pill or the physical procedure. Planned parenthood won’t preform abortions until you’re about six weeks and the pill is a choice for you up until the 12th week. Afterwards it would be limited to the physical procedure. Depending on your state the cap for that varies - for mine after the 20th week planned parenthood won’t proceed with abortions. That’s also the answer for your second question and it’s one to ask the person that calls you a few days before your scheduled appointment OR when you are scheduling your appointment. Planned parenthood is pretty good at making sure your questions are answered. Because my case was unique (I miscarried before my appointment), an in-person follow up wasn’t needed for me. They called just to make sure I was comfortable. So all in all - ask plenty of questions and be aware of your state laws and limitations regarding this. Even though my state is mostly red, the abortion laws are kind of lax and efficient compared to other places.
And also the follow up time is two weeks but if you feel any complications they urge you to seek medical attention at an actual urgent care or hospital (if you feel as if you’re having an emergency DO NOT go to planned parenthood) and after you inform them they will move up your follow up date.
I saw this in theaters with my parents. I was 12. And for the first half of the movie, I thought it was supposed to be advertising abortion, because it looked like the main character had a good life because of her career. So in the theater, halfway through the movie, I leaned over to my Christian, far right pro-life mom and whispered “Do you think I could become an abortionist when I grow up?”
I can't honestly imagine anyone involved in the making of this film has ever been inside of a Planned Parenthood. I went there for my first ever OB/GYN and it was the safest, most supportive environment I've ever been in medically. It's so utterly bizarre to see it portrayed this way.
Right??? I had my first exam done at PP and it was the first time a doctor had ever treated me so well. They asked before they did everything, were supportive and non judgemental, and answered my questions openly and honestly. It's hilarious to me the way they portray it.
Unfortunately, you're very wrong. The lady behind this, Abby what's-her-name actually worked at PP. At some point she actually stole medical information and handed it over to Christian fanatics. So it's even worse than you think.
@@Nocturnalux That is so, so much worse. It would be one thing if they fell into lies they were taught, and another thing entirely to know for a fact that the place is nothing like that, having worked on the inside, and still sell lies like this. I was raised by people who think like this and I believed a ton of dumb things because of it for a long time... every once in a while I still discover that there is something I learned that is completely wrong. Some of these lies about PP I once believed. To perpetuate this shit is disgusting.
It's weird to hear the "nice" pro-life woman say, "We can't force them to do anything." But actually, that is exactly what she wants to do! If she wants abortion to be illegal or unavailable, then people would be forced into carrying unwanted pregnancies. Being nice about it doesn't change the inherent coercion in their position.
@ChrisFarmer One common trope I’ve noticed is that pro-lifers refuse to accept that their legislation will force pregnant people to stay pregnant and give birth. Apparently, the act of a person, with a fully functioning uterus and ovaries, having sex and being pregnant against their wishes means that they should “face the consequences” of that. I’ve had pro-lifers say that a person who consented to sex CANNOT be pregnant “against their will”, because of their choice to have sex. It makes no sense and just demonstrates that their true motive is to punish (mostly) women for having sex.
It's glaring that they can't see it. Like they can't even comprehend that the argument "we can't force them" makes no god-damned sense when you understand she seems to think that she can, and is actively trying, to force people to not have abortions. So apparently she can't force the angry bigot to be nicer, oh but she tots can force the women to not have abortions.
60,000 is such a crazy number of abortions to be performed by a single person in 8 years, that’s 20.5 people a day every day for all 8 years. In TEXAS.
As a twin, I grew up with many families with twins or triplets. With multiple births, it's sometimes necessary to "reduce" for the mother's health and safety and prevent complications down the line. I grew up with people who were meant to be "reduced," but their parents risked it. Pro-lifers at my school would harass them, asking, "well, wouldn't it have sucked if your parents aborted you" and the answer I always heard was, "no, I wouldn't be around to care. I'm not suicidal. I'm glad that I'm alive, but if my mom had chosen to reduce, how would I have known what I was missing?" Before my parents knew they were having twins, all the tests concluded that I would die shortly after being born if my mom carried me to term. It turns out the lab work was off because there were two of us. But if somehow my mom could get an abortion before she got another ultrasound and my sister and I were aborted, I wouldn't be around to care. I love my family, and I'm glad that my sister and I are alive and healthy, but I was still brain dead when my mom faced this decision. Even if we pretend a fetus is a person, I would never have to mourn the loss of the person I may have become. My mom would. When it comes to the debate over abortion, everyone focuses on the fetus when we should be focused on the pregnant person. What it ultimately comes down to is bodily autonomy. No one should be forced to carry a child to term if they don't want to.
Imagine watching a murder happen before you very eyes, and the only thing you can do is beg them to stop. You beg and beg, but they say "its my body, my free will, my choice." You try to tell them that they are taking away another person's free will, destroying another person's body, but they continue to kill with no remorse. After all the killing is done and over for the day, they call you close minded and try to paint you as the bad guy. The south used the slaves, the Nazis killed the jews, planed parent hood is killing the children. History repeats itself.
The biggest killer to the "the soul enters the human body at conception" idea is monozygotic twins, generally known as identical twins. During the first 14 days after conception the zygote can split... this either means that: EITHER identical twins have half a soul shared between them and their lives are half as morally valuable as other people... which is ridiculous OR only one of the twins has a soul and the other is a soulless evil twin... which is also ridiculous OR a new soul is created or added in during the division process... which completely undermines the fundamental idea that the soul confers personhood at conception. Edit: A couple of people have suggested a 4th option, that a zygote could have 2 (or more) souls before splitting and each twin (triplet, quad etc.) will have only 1 soul afterwards. This undermines the idea that personhood starts at conception as it would be impossible to identify a Zygote as an individual person. It's just a container that can contain an indistinguishable number of souls. The only way to tell how many is to look backwards... so why wouldn't we expect a Zygote destined for abortion or miscarriage to have contained 0 souls from the start?
I'm pretty sure some hardcores are more comfortable with the idea that twins only have half of a soul, or only one has a soul, or neither of them, than accepting abortion. Many of them are literally brainwashed
As an unplanned kid, the pro life movement is awful. I wasn't born because I was loved or wanted, because I had a stable family. I was born because someone convinced my mom she "didnt want to live with that hole in her life" so instead she ruined 3. My dad never wanted kids but ended up taking care of us until his suicide, my mom sudenly realized she didn't know how to do anything and joined a cult for support. Thanks to her new age bs and DIY psychiatric treatment I spent years 12-20 with a drug habit. My little sister is finally getting real treatment for schizophrena. Mom still thinks shes a good parent just because she "kept us" and expects to be worshipped. A lot of my freinds are in the same boat, unwanted/unplaned, kicked out as teens and strugling with mental health and addiction. Everyone wants to "save a baby" no one gives a fuck about the person they become.
Sorry for the things you went through. I fail to see how the prolife movement is horrible, or at least, worst than the alternatives though. The alternative is that you would not exist, you and every unplanned child will simply never have had the chance at life to begin with, robbed of their right to live if they were aborted.
@@travismatos9068 It comes down to "ignorance is bliss" though, if he were never born, he would never have to feel the pain of an unplanned life, not "robbed" rather "saved". Personally I wouldn't want to suffer for something that wasn't my fault by being born.
@@dodoubleg182 by that logic no person should ever have children. If the goal of abortion is to rid the chance of that child living a painful life that implies it would be best to abort all babies because statistically speaking there’s always chance of that child undergoing hardship and experiencing pain throughout their life, and the best way to avoid it, would be to kill them before they are conscious of what’s happening and “save” them from suffering.
Yeah my sister works at planned parenthood and the workers are told to confirm with patients that they want the abortion. Sometimes patients will cry or be hesitant, in which case they are told to reschedule and think on it, and not pressured into it. Also planned parenthood doesn't just do abortions, and some of the clinics don't even do them.
I wonder why so many planned parenthoods closed after the overturn of roe v wade. At the very least, abortion is the majority of what they do. They lure women in, deceive them by acting kind (which is not the same thing as actually being kind) and then they kill women’s children. It’s sad
@@adriannedeforest8511 what? By closing do you mean no longer providing abortions? Because like no planned parenthoods have closed since the Dobbs decision. I mean youtube doesn't like it when I link things but if you look it up the top five results all refute your claim.
@@ezra7088 um yes, there have definitely been ones that have closed. And then there have been some that have moved to different states because theyre so desperate to make money off of desperate women by killing their unwanted babies
I love when people say the baby could have been a doctor. You could easily flip it and say the baby could have been a serial killer or something like that.
I had a math teacher (yeah, math teacher) once read us an email copypasta about "What if Jesus was aborted?" And I remember thinking, "Well, what if Hitler was aborted?" But they never talk about that part
With how many of them there are, I'm certain that there must have been ONE positive example, somewhere. Outliers do not a rule make, tho; the super-ultramajority of them still _suuuuuuucccckkk._
The cult i was in used to have an adoption program, añd it was literally just abusing teens into giving up their healthy white babies to "worthy childless couples" so basically it was just Jesus-approved child traffiking
In the sense that adoption can be a big business and some white evangelicals are obsessed with collecting children and giving them "a proper christian life" they do care about it. They need a poopl of disadvantaged exploitable women they can extort healty white babies out of, and I wouldn't put it far from them that they support policies to keep this pool ever present. The less picky that want to look extra christian aim at exploitable children in various underprivileged and vulnerable children in Afrikan East-Asian and Eastern-European counties to stea.. I mean " lift out". Extra points go to those who put on "extra burden" and go for disabled children.
Background info to keep in mind: the traditional moment of "ensoulment" according to Christian tradition was the quickening, when the mother first feels the fetus moving. In Judaism, it isn't until the baby takes its first breath outside the womb -- and predictably, no, there isn't a scriptural reason for this discrepancy, nor for the modern shift to the belief that "life begins at conception." It wasn't pushed like that until the latter half of the twentieth century, when it was weaponized to act as a wedge issue. I'm *sure* that has nothing to do with expanded rights and autonomy for women that occurred around the same period - that's just gotta be a coincidence, yeah?
@@christopherb501 No, I may just have been unclear; the moment when a pregnant person first feels the fetus move is referred to as the quickening, but I'm not 100% confident about the origin or history of the term - it's used by Christian scholars in the dark ages to delineate when a baby is "alive," but I don't know where exactly the term comes from, and its modern interpretation has nothing to do with souls.
You mean to tell me that people with no understanding of human biology or fertility, people who didn't enforce the washing of doctors hands until the latter half of the 19th century, didn't conceive of the moment of conception (that they couldn't and didn't understand) as the beginning of life? Colour me shocked.
Also, the Republicans were pro-abortion, I believe up through the late 60s/early 70s, until the “moral majority” movement was “Christianized”, and like you said, it became a wedge issue. Glad someone brought those other details up, though. I knew about “the quickening”, as I’m a Christian and like to study Christian history, but not about the “first breath” in Judaism, fascinating! The verses in Leviticus (I’m pretty sure, maybe Deuteronomy tho) were the way to figure out if your wife cheated on you are described, and you’re told how to know whether or not her pregnancy is the husband’s, by drinking the potion, and if it causes a miscarriage, that means she was a dirty cheating harlot, that makes more sense now. I guess if the baby/fetus had no soul yet, then this method of “Russian roulette abortion” was far more sensible to the Jewish people, or whichever Levite leaders came up with that crap, though I’m not sure if that was what they believed whenever the Pentateuch/Torah was written, and that lovely little rule created. I really hope that wasn’t something that was put into practice very often..
I was about to say like. In order to receive government funding they can't charge/make money from abortions, nor can rhey allocate government funds to them. Abortions are always paid for by donations
I was pro-life until I lived in a country that criminalizes abortion and saw the real-world consequences of that. After you see a baby sleeping on a sidewalk you start to prioritize living children's lives over a potential one.
Specially in 3rd world countries. I live in Honduras and its sad to see every day kids on the streets asking for money or food. If anyone ask me if they should abort I always say dont do it. But here a lot of woman are raped and force to have a child they can't support. The goverment punish abortions but never support the women and her newborn after...
Argentina: not only kids living in the streets: it was the nro 1 cause of maternal mortality. Fortunately, after almost 15 years fighting they got that right and there is an NGO of medical professionals and anotherone of feminist women lawyers trying to make sure is accesible everywhere. The stories that came out were horrifying.
I remember as an older teenager I went to planned parenthood to get an abortion, and was quickly informed that I had an ectopic pregnancy and needed to seek immediate emergency medical attention. It ended up saving my life, I began bleeding internally before the doctors at the hospital could get me into surgery and had to be rushed into emergency surgery at around 12am. Since then, I’ve had a couple other experiences with Planned Parenthood providing me help with birth control (placement and removal of) and pregnancy tests over my life. The idea that they “sell” abortions or put patients’ lives at risk has just never been my experience. Edit to add: I’m currently having my first (planned, intentional) pregnancy, and Planned Parenthood were the doctors who removed my IUD and congratulated me on the start of my journey into parenthood. I now have an OBGYN overseeing my care during pregnancy.
can’t believe the “nice pro-life lady” said that they couldn’t force the “mean pro-life man” to do anything, but her whole stance is not allowing women to have control over their own bodies?
@@paraphidd That's not an answer. I never made any absolutist statement. You think that "bodily autonomy" is absolute. Hence taxes, prisons, etc cannot be justified.
YES YES YES!! One thing that also really grinds my gears about the whole "contraceptives and sex education reduce abortions better than outlawing abortions does, checkmate Christians!" argument is that it's a point that assumes many Christians are okay with contraceptives and comprehensive sex education in the first place. Insert *not all Christians* belief disclaimer here. The church/school system that I grew up in held that contraceptives of any kind are sinful because sex is always meant to be procreative in both spiritual sense and physical sense, meaning that sex strengthens the emotional bond between a husband and a wife (because it's only ever supposed to be a husband and a wife, mind you) and also their bond to God, who ordered mankind to "go forth and multiply," which is the physical sense. The baby becomes a physical sign of the spiritual bond between husband, wife, and God. Adding contraceptives into that adds a physical and spiritual wall between a couple because it means they are not fully prepared to give themselves to each other and develop their relationship with themselves or with God- in fact, it disrespects God by doing so because we misuse his "go forth and multiply" command into something used for personal pleasure alone. So duh, anyone who believes in this is going to laugh in your face when you tell them to promote contraceptives instead. And as for comprehensive sex education, that also requires a big "political" loss because it means a loss of power, especially in the sense that knowledge is power. Going back on what they've taught- that abortions are inhumane/discriminatory/business, that if you have sex too much you will lose the chemicals that emotionally bind you to a partner, that having sex is a form of self-hate and invites people to objectify you and disrespect you (Christianity is now cancelled for kinkshaming /j), etc.... it surrenders intellectual control over followers. Creating an educational gap between your followers and the "rest of the world" means that you're less likely to interact with one another because the difference in education/values creates distrust and "othering" and having to go back on what you've taught not only makes people doubt your credibility in the first place, but also creates conflicts in any other teachings that may have been based on or backed up by those earlier lessons about sex, pregnancy, and abortion. Additionally, there's also the bit that promoting sex positivity can encourage people to sleep around more, potentially forming relationships with people outside of their circle and being "tempted away" from the faith. I know I'm painting Christianity in a manipulative, scheming, evil light here, so *insert "Not All Christians/Christian Denominations Are Bad" disclaimer*. I make these claims because as stated, I grew up in a Christian church and Christian school system. 18 very formative years of my life were spent actively learning the Gospels, the writings of Pope St. John Paul II, the Old Testament, the Commandments, the Beatitudes, Church history, etc, and I learned them as both historical fact and symbolic representations of the truth. I admit, I am being a little bitter as I write this, but that's because what I was taught about relationships, morality, God as father and judge, obligation to God, personal identity- specifically, homosexuality and gender- has quite literally *scarred* me in ways I'm still unpacking in therapy and in nightmares YEARS later. **And this wasn't some "God hates fags" snake-exorcising Bible-thumping church, by the way!** This was a very bright smiles, "Who's signing up for the mission trip to build houses?", prays whenever an ambulance siren went by the building, "If you're gay/trans then that's perfectly fine because He doesn't make mistakes, He loves you as you are and you can't choose to be gay" type of Church... they just also added "However, just because you can't help those gay thoughts and gay desires, that doesn't mean you should act on them because He designed bodily sex, sexual intercourse, and romance for a specific purpose and acting on those desires is an active choice, so having a gay relationship is to intend a gay marriage and to stop identifying/acting/dressing as your sex and those all violate God's purpose for humanity" type of stuff to the end of that. This turned into an essay when I was hoping for just one big paragraph, but that's because ever since I was able to "leave" the Church (the Church certainly has not left my brain alone), I see this whole "just promote contraceptives and comprehensive sex ed!!" argument all the f***ing time with my never-Christian, leftist friends and I want to ram my rainbow box dye head into the wall. It misunderstands the MULTIPLE roles anti-abortion rhetoric has as well as how much it and other beliefs intertwine with each other. Anti-abortion ties in with anti-gay, anti-trans, anti-sex worker, anti-poor, anti-science sentiments, among tons and tons of other things. If anyone has actually taken the time to read what this rambling, traumatized queer has to yell about, know that I truly, deeply appreciate your time. :)
"it's a point that assumes many Christians are okay with contraceptives and comprehensive sex education in the first place". No. It's deliberately a point that that assumes they're NOT okay with those things. That's what makes the argument. It's not a good argument to say "support these things INSTEAD of banning abortion because these things are statistically more likely to reduce the number of abortions" for all of the reasons Joel said in the video. However, it is a decent argument to make that if these people really cared that much about the lives of the unborn, they should support everything which would reduce the number of abortions including sex education and easy access to contraceptives. Because which is worse: a couple using contraceptives or having an abortion? The fact that the same people who are pro life often oppose these other practical measures which would reduce the number of abortions reveals that for them it's not just about saving the lives of fetuses but also about controlling the behavior of others.
@@SirPhysics While I agree that you can make the argument that if they really cared about the lives of the unborn they would support contraceptives as a kind of "lesser evil," I've also seen more traditional Christians literally believe that contraceptives are the same thing as an abortion, which is the point I think they were trying to get at. They absolutely will not promote contraceptives because anything posing a threat to that natural order of pregnancy is seen as murder, and without the comprehensive sex education to refute that claim they continue to make other bad faith arguments about abortion.
If abortion is murder, literally the same as killing any other person, then do you think you can stop all murder? No. Literally anyone knows that's impossible. If you wanted to reduce the number of murders, then you would do whatever it takes to accomplish that. Even if they made abortion a crime punishable by death, there would still be abortions. If they had a coherent argument to make, then they would agree that contraception and using protection during sex would help reduce abortion. But they don't have a coherent argument. These people are extremists, and you can't find a middle ground with them. They are dangerous people.
So again, a small portion of Christianity should determine the legality of bodily autonomy for the rest of the planet? Otherwise, yes, contraceptives decrease the number of abortions. I don't see why this is a problem for people to face. People are going to have sex. GET OVER IT, THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO! IN FACT, PREACHING ABSTINENCE ONLY HAS PROVEN TO BE NOT ONLY INEFFECTIVE BUT ACTUALLY MAKE THINGS WORSE!
Yeah I thought that was a valid argument until I went through my latest theology class at my catholic highschool and everything you just described was said in that class😬😬😬
I actually went to go see that movie in theaters with my Christian mother. (Spoilers for all you avid pure flix fans) I remember the emotional climax of the film were the main character is in the abortion room and the music is loud and intense and the whole thing is dramatic then the doctor goes "Beam me up Scotty" and flicks the abortion switch and the music cuts and I absolutely lost it in the theater I just thought that was so funny. As it turns out that was NOT infact suppose to be a comedic moment and I was the only one laughing. my mom was not happy
I'm a trans guy who goes to Planned Parenthood for HrT. Literally, the nicest, kindest folks I've ever met. They made sure I knew everything I needed to know, gave me seven pages to read through to make sure I wanted to go with it, and in fact, I did. I'm a month on now, and I get calls from them making sure I'm alright. PP is wonderful.
that sounds like a nice place to get hrt from for the record, im not american, i have little to no idea who planned parenthood are, just, from your description of it
@@squibble311 it’s a public reproductive and sexual health clinic that provides access to trans affirming healthcare, STD/STI tests, lots of different types of birth control, cervical cancer and other reproductive cancer screenings, and provides access to abortion. it’s a seriously wonderful service that is constantly under attack because the evangelical conservatives can’t stop salivating over the idea of making the handmaid’s tale a reality.
I had an abortion at the women’s clinic at 18 and I couldn’t afford it at all. I had to apply for a payment option the clinic offered and by the time I got it, it was almost too late. Top it off with people calling me a murderer when I looked for help online, and not being able to tell my parents, my friends or anyone other than strangers online... it was one of the worst experiences of my life, yet it’s 8 years later and I still don’t regret it. Stuff like this bothers me so much, these people have no idea what they’re talking about.
It sounds horrible, I am glad that everything has ended well, when I hear cases like yours I hope that at some point we can get to have free and safe abortions and much more sex education.
I consider protestors outside abortion clinics little more than cowards. It’s easy to harass scared women in precarious positions. Never mind young girls in precarious medical positions. They should all be forced to endure a pregnancy against their will and see how they like it. Btw I’m sorry you went through that
I'm sorry, but *THE ZYGOTE* sounds like a chaos lord from Warhammer of some shit. Every time I hear it in the video I can't stop imagining a horrific creature covered in fangs and spikes, lusting for blood.
The Zygote, a monster of Khornate and Tzeentchian influence is a terrible beast, with the raw strength to defeat Warlord-class Titans single-handedly, but with a devious, cunning wit that makes them a nightmare for any foe. Some say the Zygote was what struck down the Emperor, felling Horus to cover its tracks before vanishing into the ether, not claiming responsibility so the blame would fall to others, and it could continue to work from the shadows, striking without warning or mercy and disappearing as quickly as it appeared, lying in wait to claim its next meal.
I dislike the word “pro life”, especially since quite a few who are anti-abortion support the death penalty and fewer gun laws, while denying universal health care and social network expansion. Also, not many vegans and vegetarians.
@@MrCmon113 I’m not a huge fan of either terms myself. I believe in a right to choose whether a woman or girl wants to have a child and pro-life stances such as paid federal maternity leave and universal health care.
ok couple things here. -Not saying im for the death penalty, in a perfect world we would be able to help all criminals, but comparing an innocent unborn baby and someone who hurt people one way or another really isn't a great argument. You see the big difference right? -fewer gun laws? Guns are def. a right. Well in America they are. I'm all for self defense. There are many cases where people have died because they couldn't get access to a gun in time because the laws are already pretty strict. Guns are very important , especially for women. -Def don't have a problem with universal healthcare. -animal life and human life are not equal.
This is the thing. As horrible and cruel as planned parenthood protestors are, they’re at least honest. They act according to their beliefs. If you believed a hospital was doing baby murder, then you too would stand outside and harass anyone who went inside. But most pro life people sub consciously understand that what they think is stupid. They associate with pro choice people, passive aggressively disagreeing with them but still acknowledging and treating them like people. You’d never do that to an actual murderer because that’s insane.
I often see that a lot of pro-life people fight so hard for fetuses to be born but they don't show that same vigor after they are born. They fight so hard for the unborn but care little about the living.
In the timeless words of Adin Ballou, I have covenanted to forsake all and follow Him, through good and evil report, until death. But I am nevertheless a Democratic Republican citizen of the United States, implicitly sworn to bear true allegiance to my country, and to support its Constitution, if need be, with my life. Jesus Christ requires me to do unto others as I would that others should do unto me. The Constitution of the United States requires me to do unto all working people the very opposite of what I would have them do unto me, viz., assist to keep them in a grievous bondage… But I am quite easy. I vote on. I help govern on. I am willing to hold any office I may be elected to under the Constitution. And I am still a Christian. I profess on. I find no difficulty in keeping covenant both with Christ and the Constitution… Jesus Christ forbids me to resist evil-doers by taking 'eye for eye, tooth for tooth, blood for blood, and life for life.' My government requires the very reverse, and depends, for its own self-preservation, on the halter, the musket, and the sword, seasonably employed against its domestic and foreign enemies. Accordingly, the land is well furnished with gibbets, prisons, arsenals, train-bands, soldiers, and ships of war. In the maintenance and use of this expensive life-destroying apparatus, we can exemplify the virtues of forgiving our injurers, loving our enemies, blessing them that curse us, and doing good to those that hate us. For this reason, we have regular Christian chaplains to pray for us, and call down the smiles of God on our holy murders… I see it all; and yet I insist that I am as good a Christian as ever. I fellowship all; I vote on; I help govern on; I profess on; and I glory in being at once a devoted Christian, and a no less devoted adherent to the existing government. I will not give in to those miserable Non-Resistant notions. I will not throw away my political influence, and leave unprincipled men to carry on government alone… The Constitution says - “Congress shall have power to declare war…” I agree to this. I endorse it. I swear to help carry it through… What then, am I less a Christian? Is not war a Christian service? Is it not perfectly Christian to murder hundreds of thousands of fellow human beings; to ravish defenseless females, sack and burn cities, and enact all the other cruelties of war? Out upon these new-fangled scruples! This is the very way to forgive injuries, and love our enemies! If we only do it all in true love, nothing can be more Christian than wholesale murder!
I was raised as a Fundamentalist Christian and a rural part of my state and remember going to some protests to advance the Pro Life agenda when I was in my teens. I could go into the details of how I deconverted but that could fill a novel but, an an Anthropological Atheist, I find the reasoning of Why People Believe fascinating. What I think is interesting is that Christianity has latched onto more Catholic teachings of the soul entering a body at conception. In Judaism, however, the soul doesn’t enter a body until the baby takes its first breath. Lots of other religions answer the question of When Does the Soul Enter the Body in their own way. But even the argument that Life Begins at Conception isn’t supported by science. The fertilized egg needs to be implanted into the newly formed placenta wall to get nutrients to grow. There’s also a 20-30% chance of spontaneous abortion/miscarriage with every pregnancy. Given that the science supports more intricate details of fetal development, it’s sad that Religion, and Christianity in particular, still clings onto outdated notions of Soul-Body dichotomy. Like George Carlin said in 1992, abortion is more of an issue to control women’s bodies and punish them for having sex and getting pregnant. I find it appalling that people preach Pro Life schpeels but then think that kids are a punishment and people have to suffer 18+ years raising them. Imagine finding out that the reason you’re alive was as a means of punishment...
Rachel S Religion can be good to lay down some values such as monogamy(good for children) no murder yada yadda. But it is mostly used to control others and prove on why what they do is bad. Monogamy = good but people who have only fans are bad because they are not (if they have kids they will have a tough time). Religion is used to shame and control. Its a lot of dont do this or go to hell or do this or go to hell. We would all be going to hell if we followed religion to a t. Gluttony is a sin(fat people would go to hell) working on saturday is a sin(american workers and college students would go to hell) No sex before marriage( everyone would go to hell) No masturbation(guys are circumsized for that reason) Dont acknowledge other gods(everyone is going to hell because by saying oh your muslim or sihk thats cool would get you to hell)There are no lines. It is used wrong because its always been used to control. And rest in peace george carlin he was a legend.
No one seems to really want to talk about what you said the last paragraph, or they shoot you down before you finish. Like ok this baby is here, now what? Baby is here, but mom still goes out and parties, does that mean the baby has failed at being a lesson for the mother to not do that anymore? What happens then?
unlucky one That’s exactly what I mean. I don’t want kids cause I don’t see myself as a mom and have a colorful history of mental illness that I don’t want to pass on to offspring, but I fully support loving parents (who are emotionally, financially and mentally prepared) to have kids and raise them in a thriving home. My fiancé’s 4 year old nephew was considered a miracle cause his mother suffered from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, was told she couldn’t have kids but she wounded up having her son and I was thrilled for them. I also think that we, as Americans, have to fix a lot of economic and social issues if we ever want all children to have opportunities to thrive and change the world. You can’t have kids becoming doctors and curing cancer if they can’t go to good schools, be raised in an environment to support their ambitions and not be burdened by student debt. I could go on, but I’m an advocate for changing the world around me so that kids living in it now can have a bright, prosperous future.
I've read figures as high as 80% of zygotes either fail to implant or spontaneously miscarry within the first 2 weeks of pregnancy, and most women just think they've had a late period.
As someone raised in a conservative, Christian household, and as somehow who was pro life for 30 years, here are the things that caused me to change my stance to fully pro choice. 1. You hit on this one first thing. So much of banning abortion rests on philosophy, or when life actually begins. There’s no one to show scientifically when a soul comes into being, so it comes down to a religious viewpoint. And it’s utterly ridiculous to expect laws to be made because “the Bible says” yada yada… I should never expect anyone else to be held accountable to my religious beliefs if they don’t hold the same beliefs. 2. There’s no way to draw a clear line between medically necessary abortion, and elective abortion. Listening to any medical doctor who practices womens healthcare will educate a person on how nuanced the issue is. And banning abortion will absolutely, inevitably cause harm to women needing abortion for medical purposes. How can I, as someone who believes God loves everyone equally, say it’s bad to cause harm to someone needing abortion, but throw women electing for abortion under the figurative bus? If abortion is banned, women will die. Who am I to say the unborn fetus is worth more than the life of a woman? There is no way to draw an absolute line as to when abortion is “ok” and when it isn’t. 3. If roe v wade is overturned, the people most affected will be the marginalized. Some states may still provide abortion services, but that does mean everyone will be able to afford to take time off work and travel for these services, and in some cases find childcare. 4. Embryos and young fetuses cannot possibly feel pain, or have self awareness, in the way so many prolifers and Christians are taught. They’ll argue the heart starts beating at 25 days into pregnancy. No. The cells that will eventually form a working heart begin responding to electrical signals. Not at all the same thing. There is no nervous system at that time, and throughout early pregnancy. The embryo/fetus cannot feel pain if the nervous system is not developed. 5. If prolifers really wanted to lessen abortion, they would support comprehensive, age appropriate sex education. It’s cute they think not telling young teenagers about sex will keep them from having it. If kids are going to do it no matter what, and they are, then they need to know everything about how sex, pregnancy, contraception, gender identity, and so forth work. And contraceptives need to be available easily and freely and at low or no cost. I also firmly believe that if proper womens healthcare, including abortion, is available widely, we would see a reduction in abortion after the first trimester. Just some of my thoughts on the matter that helped me to see beyond my upbringing.
@@briangrosenbach I think the progressive Christian movement is gaining momentum, but there's a lot of evangelical/ fundamentalist nonsense to overcome as far as how non Christians see the Christian religion. I'm sure there are people of other faiths who would also identify as progressive.
I almost never comment on youtube videos, but I just want to give a super positive planned parenthood story. I had a gynecological issue, and there was NO WHERE I could get an exam within a month (COVID), except for PP. I had gone to an urgent care a few days before and the experience was awful and unhelpful, so I was super nervous to try a different place. At PP, all of the care providers and office staff were super nice, professional, gentle, and non judgmental. I got a full exam, labwork, etc, and got an answer and medication that day. The appointment only cost about $100 (and that was without insurance coverage or their low income program). It is truly an amazing non profit, and they fill such a needed niche in sexual health urgent care.
That’s a wonderful story to share and it really pisses me off that people who are anti abortion don’t even acknowledge that planned parenthood does other positive things (especially for people with low income) than just abortion.
I just wanted to say that in Poland right now there are protest goi g on because our corrupted system passed the legislation stating that abortion is illegal in absolutely all possible cases. That indicates that woman will be forced to give a birth to dead baby, or baby with major genetic problems, even if its a threat to her health. Our politicians passed that law under the current circumstances, which prohibits many people from going to the protests. That is why we need as many comments as possible in all possible sources. I don’t know. I just though somebody might see that, and it would help the course a little.
@@tripkings547 With this new law, abortion in Poland is going to be legal only when pregnancy is threatening to woman’s health or life and in cases when woman is pregnant because of acts of rape or incest. However, percentage of those cases are incredibly small, mostly because it is really hard to prove anything in such small period of time. In 2019 1100 legal abortions has been conducted and only 33 of them was because of threat to the health of a mother or because of the rape or incest.
The medical scenes are hilarious. It's obvious they didn't even bother to consult a family practioner, much less an OB/GYN. It's also a pretty clever appeal to emotion. A dirty, underhanded, false appeal to emotion, but crafty nonetheless. Misoprostol is pretty well tolerated and is responsible for the vast majority of terminations. And 95% are done prior to 16 weeks. These people seem to think doctors go to great lengths to harvest and dissect a ball of tissue the size of a donut hole. What is even going on at 12:33? You don't just dump biohazard material in a plastic bin and leave it out. It gets incinerated, for fucks sake.
@@K.Marie119 I have worked in a hospital setting. Yes, biological material is simply put in specific plastic bins before being brought away for incineration. I have not seen barrels like in the movie but it's not so far removed from the reality
@Allthewayhome781 I was more-so referring to allowing the anti-choice, forced-birth crowd to pray over supposed "red bag" waste, the improper packaging, and violating chain of custody laws. I don't know what your actual role was, but as an inpatient sterile compounding pharmacy technician, we went through pretty extensive training on the laws regarding disposal of regulated medical waste. I've also already completed my OB/GYN rotations. Human tissues must be disposed of in bags and leak proof, clearly labled, hard sided bins. Companies that handle the pickup and disposal will refuse to handle anything that has not been properly packaged.
@@K.Marie119 You say you pack biological matter in plastic bins before it is transported for incineration, and that is my experience too. The movie shows plastic bins being removed for incineration, aligning with both our experiences in a rough way. So the only difference is that people would not be allowed near the waste and the waste would be properly labeled, which in the context of the movie is really only a minor point. It seems like people are just complaining about anything bc they don't like the message of the movie which is pro life

Its a mater of priorities. Millions of children have died due to abortion, which makes it a top priority to bring an end to. To give an example, abortion has brought more death than the genocide of the Jews. We want to stop abortions, then we will move to help survival rates.
@@eeaotly I'm actually doing things in the proper order. In order to make sure that the lives of future living children are better, we need to make sure that the children have a life in the first place. Abortion takes away a human's right to life in order to make the mother's life better. A life should only be traded for another life, nothing less. In most situations abortion trades a life for something less than another life, abortion is not logical. Over the past 40 years arround 35 million children died due to abortions, I'm trying to make sure that we don't lose another 35 million over the next 40 years. If you see a flaw in this logic, please point it out to me.

It’s just completely inaccurate in so many ways I can’t believe a movie like this is even available to the public with so many inconsistencies
Can PP sue for defamation or libel? I feel like if an organisation would be this misrepresented in a film where I live, the film makers would be sued into oblivion.
@@someonerandom8552 Well, the lady behind this was involved in legal issues over stealing medical info at PP and handing it over to Christian loons. So it goes beyond defamation.
It's by design. The thought leaders in reactionary movements have an incentive in making sure their followers know as little as possible about "the other side". It's hard to dehumanize people when you understand them.
I would expect them to make a baddie group called something like "Planned Parentality" or "Planned Motherhood", "Planned Maternity", "Intentional Parentage" or best of all, "Planned Parentage".
I think the point of the "if you hate abortion so much, you should be advocating for comprehensive sex ed" argument isn't to change anyone's mind about abortion. It think it's meant to point out the hypocrisy of Christian rhetoric being both anti-abortion and anti-education. These ideas look like they contradict each other if their goal is to prevent abortion (they kind of don't, though, because of the argument you made in this video). But the two ideas work together perfectly if their goal is to restrict women's sexual freedom. The thing is, almost no one I have ever spoken to (including internet crazies) believes abortion to be murder. Not really. For example, a common "reasonable" pro-birth stance is that abortion should be illegal except in cases of rape or risk to the mother's life. It makes sense to kill one person, who is probably doomed either way, if it means saving someone else's life. But it doesn't make sense to kill someone in retaliation for a rape they didn't even commit. Both legally and morally, it would not make sense to make an exception for rape cases if abortion was truly murder*. Yet the belief that a rape victim should carry her pregnancy to term against her will is generally considered repulsive (as it should be, for reasons that should be obvious). * [[There's also the fact that it's generally really hard to prove that a pregnancy was caused by rape if the victim didn't report the crime immediately, and not reporting is very common for a lot of reasons, and that's just one of the reasons that making abortion illegal with the exception of rape victims would be extremely easy to either get wrong in good faith or intentionally exploit to prevent rape victims from exercising their rights, but that's a whole other thing.]] What it always comes down to, in my personal experience, is that pro-birth people believe that women who have abortions are trying to avoid the negative consequences of having sex. And that means that they think of babies as punishments, not blessings as they would claim. And here is where the rape exception makes sense: if pregnancy and birth are punishments for sex, then surely we shouldn't punish the people who didn't get to make that choice. In the end, the point is to hurt women. It's a core of misogyny covered by a transparent coat of "save the children" paint.
Totally agreed. Other than the obvious misogyny, I think pro-life arguments also come from very sex-negative ideas, that people who have premarital sex (or have sex without wanting children in general) are irresponsible and take the "selfish" or "easy way out" via abortion, even if the so-called "responsible decision" means raising a child you aren't prepared for
I think Joel stumbles when he argues that Innuendo Studios is missing the point when he advocates for Sex-Ed. He goes on to argue that anti-abortionists won't care about the statistics since murder is murder - End Of Story, where Innuendo Studios was arguing about sex ed eliminating the need for abortions, since women won't get pregnant! You are right. It is all about purity culture and policing women's bodies and worth. Women and sex are for making babies - everything else about them is secondary.
While I agree with you, I also agree with the video's point as I understand it: Us lefties have a tendency to want to "debunk" the right, and that often leads to engaging their talking points as a relevant discussion - there's a lot of examples, like saying "no one wants to abolish the police" or "the idea that someone wants to identify as an attack helicopter is a strawman" - and forgetting that lots of people do want to abolish the police and that identifying as an attack helicopter is also fine. It's all about finding a good middle ground between those tendencies, depending on your audience and the people you're trying to convince.
To challenge your view that they just want to restrict women's sexual freedoms, it might be more realistic to say that their moral framework is simply based on their faith. If you believed in the "absolute truth" that abortion was murder, you'd probably do anything you can to prevent it. If you're pro-life and you think there should be exceptions for rape, it's probably because you think rape is worse than murder. Vice versa if you believe the opposite. It's also important when engaging with an individual on the topic not to assume which premises they base their conclusion on. I say this not because some pro-lifers aren't complete misogynists, but because it doesn't really make sense to believe they all, or even most, are. People don't really default to the oppressive mindset like that. You have to be really self-unaware or have a really strong passion to stick to such a socially damning mindset.
@@tintinaus that's the thing, pro lifer's do not care about being hypocritical, They haven't thought through the logical consistencies, they haven't considered teh consequences... They know what's right because they think they know what's right. Ironically, Innuendo Studio's did a series of videos about arguments with right wingers pointing out this phenomena: that the right simply frames you in a box and make you talk about what they want to talk about. Its the Alt Right Playbook series. as much as i like innuendo's video on abortion, facts take time to absorb, and further ,facts require basic knowledge of the subject. As much as it is a sin to criticize my news daddy Cody Johnston, he just threw facts at prolifers and most don't know and don't care, also those that do know still do not care. They have made the "game" so that the left can never use power moves against them. Its "ad hominum," its leftist hypocrisy, its anything, but what it is... while at the same time, allowing the right to maintain power. Your best bet, is to assert your power and not play that game with them. point is, the right or anyone argues against abortion rights for women by bringing up the concern for life or children, are not arguing in good faith. No matter what facts you show them, they will ignore it and continue to try and paint you and other's like you as expressly evil. Worse, many will just devolve immediately into histrionics just to piss you off. Big Joel is just pointing out this innate uselessness of these arguments due to talking in circles. that said, i don't fully agree with Joel. There will always be people who respond to lessons, who are given to a certain point of view. These pieces of advice i'm giving isn't 100 percent effective only for the right. You can show people, in a honest way, factual information and it will work on them. So, I guess the take away is that take what you can from this and apply as necessary in according to what you want to do.
I’m convinced there isn’t a single “pro-lifer” who actually understands the medical processes of abortion. Like, no pro-lifer has ever actually portrayed or described any type of abortion in even a remotely realistic way.
Because the entire ideology of the pro-life movement relies on lies. If they actually told the truth and had good-faith debates they would lose every single time
@@samuelbrown3405 This is ironic. I am neither "pro-life" nor "pro-choice", but I have witnessed (and sometimes taken part in) countless on-line debates about abortion over the years, and I can assure you that the most ignorance and dishonesty comes from the "pro-choice" side. By far. It's not even a close contest. The "pro-choice" people will come out with such ludicrous falsehoods as - and I'm paraphrasing, here, but accurately - "A foetus is not alive," "A foetus is just a clump of cells," "A foetus cannot feel anything," and even, "A foetus is part of its mother." And that's just the basics - ranging from at least partially wrong to spectacularly wrong - before we even get to anything more specific that might require more than a passing familiarity with basic, school-level biology. "Pro-life" people certainly can say things that are just as stupid, of course, but only if they happen to make a religious statement, which despite much "pro-choice" propaganda to the contrary, is by no means always the case, and even when they do that, it tends to be not a central part of their actual argument. (In my experience, it is _rarely_ the case that a "pro-life" person will make an explicitly religious argument, even in cases where they do happen to be religious.) I won't go so far as to say the entire ideology of the pro-choice movement is based on lies, because there is one honest argument that I see from the pro-choice side, and it's a particularly powerful one. The only problem with it is that it is so blatantly _right-wing:_ it is the argument that nobody has any moral responsibility to look after anyone but themselves. Actually, to be fair, it's that nobody has the moral responsibility to allow anyone else to use their _body._ It works, in a way, but it sits uncomfortably with every other principle that is seen as belonging to the political left: that every one of us has a responsibility to act collectively look after each other; that we want to ensure that everyone's basic needs are met; that we should side with the powerless against those who have power over them. Having a weak and vulnerable child killed to avoid having to continue to provide sustenance for them violates all three of those principles. The idea that "nobody has the right to use my body" is an argument that would sit far more comfortably alongside ideas like "nobody has the right to step on my land" (so I can shoot trespassers if I want) and "nobody has the right to take my money" (so I can shoot the tax collector too), which are always seen as very right-wing. This is a digression, I admit, but it never ceases to amaze me that people don't see that the "pro-choice" position is a right-wing position.

Colton Barta yes, if a woman decides she no longer wants to sustain a fetus, she has that right at any stage - but that doesn’t really happen though. A fetus one month away from birth would just be induced or delivered via c-section.
Cockroach no but I don’t think every single barrier to abortion is a slight against women. I think sometimes the barriers are very well justified by science.
I had a surgical abortion about 5 years ago, all I felt afterwards was relief. The procedure itself wasn't scary at all, 15 minutes and it was over. The nurses and Doctor were wonderful to me. I've never felt regret at all about it, sometimes it feels weird thinking about it like, "wow that actually happened to me" it's kinda surreal but that's about it. Planned Parenthood was there for me, and I'm eternally grateful.

I've had more than one and did the chemical abortion the second time. It wasn't fun but was way less traumatizing than when I eventually gave birth. I get so mad when people represent PP like this. I wasn't completely sure the first time and was pressured into it (yelled at and driven there) by my boyfriend. When I arrived I was crying and the person doing my consult actually asked me what happened and then told me I had time to go home and think about it without him around and not to let him make the decision for me. @@gladiusdomina4399 Oh, its a very emotion thing when a couple who is pro-life is trying, thinks they got pregnant, and the fertilized egg does not implant. This early of a miscarriage is sometimes called a chemical pregnancy. My now pregnant wife and I had what we believed to be a chemical pregnancy in December. We cried and morned the loss of what we thought would be our first child for more than two weeks. We did our best to put on happy faces for the holidays, but it was challenging. It impacted us emotionally for the next two months, and we had a LOT of very difficult feelings and conversations. My mother had 13 confirmed pregnancies - 6 children were born, 7 were miscarriages. Each miscarriage resulted in weeks of tears that could not be hidden from me and my siblings - no matter how early the miscarriage was. While some people may not feel the same way, those who truly believe in life starting at conception have a very hard time with every baby lost through miscarriages of every sort.
@@jaydisberger1014 ammm it would be easier to handle if they actually accepted conscious life doesn't start at fecundation. And my whole point is towards pro life people who are not even trying to make a baby yet they cry over unknown unborn bunch of cells and try to control other's bodies. And well xD one experience to another... I've had a miscarriage, yet I didn't hurt that much about it since I never saw it as an actual baby. And also my stress was about my life plans changing without me wanting it yet, and I assume that was because all I cared about was myself, as the only conscient being trapped in that situation. Each has their own experience :) the shitty thing is making others take life changing decisions because certain group thinks this "intent in process of human being" has more value than the actual adult with already formed brain, total conscious feelings and personal past traumas to attend.
My mom dragged me along to see this movie with her (in theaters) when I was only about 13 or 14. She said it was banned in a lot of places because it was too realistic and "they" (meaning "looney liberals" according to her) don't want people to see the TRUE horror that abortion "really is". All I can remember was my mom talking through most of the movie to make a point to me. It was annoying.
Forcing women to bear children, will inevitably lead to children being born to families/single persons who don't want them, can't raise them or both. This leads to increased chances of children experiencing physical, verbal, sexual abuse, neglect, being exposed to adverse life events, developing various mental and physical illnesses etc. The amount of children being raised in families that cannot provide for them (physically, but most importantly, psychologically) is just sad... The other argument, that women should give their unwanted children for adoption... Yes, as if the majority of children spend some time in institutions and then get adopted by loving and capable families. That's not really the case. I live in Greece for example and I have seen first hand how children in all kinds of orphanages grow up. The hardcore pro-lifers should be campaigning for ubiquitous and proper sex ed, relationship skills and contraception usage. That's how you reduce abortions without forcing women to bear children. But the same group, usually holds a very negative stance towards sex ed, because they are usually pro (total) abstinence and against premarital sex and they cannot fathom/don't care that proper sex ed increases young people's sex rates by a bit, but it also increases SAFE sex rates by a lot, while abstinence only programs are near total failures... Religious dogmatism blinds you...
Let's not forget how impossible it would be to force women to be healthy for whole 9 months. They don't want the children so they will drink and smoke. If you put them in some kind of closed institution they will still harm children because of all the stress they will experience. During early pregnancy human body recognizes foetus as parasite and tries to get rid of it. If the body feels like it's in danger then it will be even more likely to reject the unwanted burden You can't force women to be happy. Especially if they were rape victims
The pro-life laymen don't care about what happens after birth because the suffering isn't happening to them and can be ignored. The pro-life people in power don't care about the suffering, because that suffering will most assuredly lead to a poorer quality life and education and stoking those insecurities keep them in power.
@@angelikaskoroszyn8495 Exactly, it never occurred to me how women who are forced to bear will likely harm themselves directly and indirectly... Very valid point.
It's simple. The "pro-life" people aren't pro-life. They're pro-birth. They couldn't give less of a shit about a person once they're born, whether they be one minute old or one century.
According to the Bible itself, a person begins “from the first breath” you don’t have a first breath until after your born. Even within their religion it doesn’t make sense to say abortion is wrong.
@@Zimpfnis I don't know about specific bible verses as I am very secular, but in Hebrew, the word for spirit/soul (נשמה/neshama) shares a root with the words for breath/breathing/etc (breath is נשימה/neshima), which might say something interesting about how Judaism views where the spirit comes from (breath, not the mystical womb or w/e)!
@@micah4460 I think they are as alive as a parasite is. Feeding off its host body to continue to function. If you want to keep the parasite and raise it good for you. If you don't wish to have the parasite grow inside of you and cause changes to your life get rid of it. Your body, your choice and it does not matter what your reasoning is. People need to stop putting stipulations on abortions, if you dont want it dont have it. It doesnt matter if you are too young, too poor, never wanted children and protection broke, were raped, it doesnt matter. The only thing that matters is if you want to put your body through it. If you dont want to put your body through something that will leave trauma on your body then don't. No one should force you to because it's not their body.
My issue with this movie is the same one I have with prolifers in real life: You sure don't see Pure Flix making a movie about a heartwarming tale of a family opening their home to a needy foster child.
@@WhoTookMyMirr should we kill them because they’re unwanted? If not, then neither should we kill unwanted babies in the womb. That’s discrimination. And murder

Why? Because we don't agree w/ you that government programs to benefit the poor are the bestest thing ever? Because we know enough economics to realize that saddling the poor w/ wasteful regulations, oppressive taxes and the like in order to "give" them welfare is TERRIBLE for them & their kids? The parts of the movie that are supposed to disgust and enrage the anti-abortion folks are so ridiculous that they're unintentionally hilarious. A fetus trying not to be aborted? lmao
When I went to school I had a class of religion and the teacher once put a disk on the radio that had registered an anti-abortion track where a baby, with a chipmunk-like voice, used to talk like an adult, wondering why his parents were always discussing, and then, when the abortion part came, the "baby" started screaming supplications in pain. In the end he was in Paradise and kept watching at his mother. It was supposed to be sad but that voice and the lines of the "baby" were so lame that I almost laughed.
I had to go to Planned Parenthood for a pelvic exam about a year ago. Like a lot of clinics now, they texted me the intake form beforehand, which I decided to fill out in the car ride over. It went faster than I thought, and I didn’t want to finish it outside, because it was really cold outside, so I stood in the doorway to finish the form. A literal armed guard with a bulletproof vest walked over to me and was like “hey, you can’t just stand in the doorway, it’s a liability, you either need to get off the property or come all the way inside and check in,” so I went inside. When they checked me in, it was unlike any doctor check in I’ve ever had before. They asked me if there was going to be anybody accompanying me (and if so, they needed that person’s ID on file). They gave me a badge and were like “this has to be visible while you’re in the waiting room.” The whole thing felt very sad and dystopian, especially since I live in a blue city where everyone is at worst ambivalent to planned parenthood. It makes me wonder how tight the security is at planned parenthood in more conservative areas
@@msjkramey it wasn’t a negative experience at all and the intake lady was super nice to me! It was just really surreal that it was like...I’m here for a pelvic exam and there’s a dude with a gun and a bulletproof vest guarding the door
In Canada, women get an abortion through their family doctor, or any walk in clinic will arrange it. Having to go to an 'abortion center' is outrageous. There is no cost, and it is usually available through your local hospital. I cannot imagine what it is like for women in the US.
In my state at least (New York) you can get an abortion through your doctor/hospital as well. The abortion clinic route is for minors or women who don’t have health insurance.
My partner and I drove all the way from Mississippi to Oregon to get it done. We had to work very hard by ourselves to make it happen and it was almost too late. They had a hospital that did it for me and I didn’t even know that existed because in the South walk-in abortion clinics would feel like you’re willingly entering a protest. there was only one in Mississippi and it was at the state Capital, which was VERY dangerous. I’m one of the lucky ones.
The reason conservatives talk about plant parenthood or donors is the same why alt right talk about home for our people as a noble dream. It is easy to draw a rosy picture, but how are you going to get there and the consequences of not confirming are intentionally omitted. If they tell the general public that information they would lose any support. In addition, the science is not on the side of pro life arguments, at all. If you claim that a fetus is alive, then logically it would be the same way you define a person as dead. Not heart beat, but brain activity. Guess when brain activity starts? About 22 weeks into pregnancy. This after 5 month into pregnancy. The conception argument can only be described is fucking stupid. And to be clear, I am religious, but the word soul has no practical meaning when you are enacting policies or laws. And all that does not consider the carrier, which is the women, if she is willing to carry the fetus.
Indeed. As has been pointed out many, many times, a heartbeat is remarkably unremarkable as far as biological phenomena are concerned. When you have hearts operating in creatures as simple as insects, and myriad organelles working thruout trillions of cells in macroscopic life, all working in unison to help the cells properly respire, reproduce and perform specialized function, a heart beating is _so_ banal by comparison you may as well compare a single chunk of mafic rock to a continental shelf.
Personally, I'm fine with plant parenthood. Lots of worthwhile botanical resources provided. As long as they aren't advocating murdering trees for their lumber.
when my gf and i went in to planned parenthood the first thing the lady asked was if my gf wanted a hug and once they were done she showed us what our options were the first being to keep the baby and what support we could look forward to from them. on the way in though there were christian protestors calling us just the ugliest names one guy even said they are sacrificing babies to satan in there. the entire experience of dealing with everything and everyone those people outside the first clinic to were the hardest most vile part of the process. They make me ashamed that i was a chirstian as a child :l
Those people are not real Christians. Anyone can call themselves a Christian, but that doesn't make them one. Remember that. If you were an actual christian when you were a child, there's nothing to be ashamed about.
I hope that whatever choice you guys ended up making was the right one for you. I thank God all the time that I've never had to sit down and think that over because I've had a few scares myself and I know a couple women who had to make that choice themselves
How is this not just slander against planned parenthood? They do so much more than just abortions - which, in and of themselves, are necessary for the health and safety of countless people.
My intuition is that Planned Parenthood doesn't have the legal fund or public support to pull off the kind of suit they'd need to get PureFlix in tepid water for their grossly defamatory depiction.
@@timothymclean They are a bit lean on funding but there is a strong majority support in the country for PP (and even stronger support for legal abortions). My big issue with the prolife movement has always been how it tries to claim that it’s “preserving life” and “helping people” while actively doing so much more harm than any abortion that’s not being done with a wire hanger. I’m someone who’s been personally hurt in multiple ways by the prolife movement despite never even considering terminating a pregnancy myself. First off I, like a lot of other people in the comments, was an unplanned pregnancy. I was born to parents who weren’t emotionally or financially ready to have a baby. My mother was resentful and abusive, and any time I told her I was unhappy with my life or hurt by how she treated me she’d basically retroactively threaten me with how she should have gotten an abortion or abandoned me as a baby so I should be grateful I was even alive. We lived in a house that was falling apart and unsafe. We often went hungry. I was left alone from a very young age and would cry myself to sleep after weeks of not seeing my parents. As a teen I was suicidally depressed and abused worse after my mother remarried a man who hated me even more than she did. I ran away from home and lived on the streets. I tried to end my life multiple times. I’m in a better place now and no longer wish to end my life, but 5 good years after a lot of hard work and therapy and support from my adult friends I never got growing up doesn’t mean the first 20 years of never having my needs met and actively wanting to die go away. In fact it left some scars so deep I’ll probably never recover from it. It is so horrible to knowing let children suffer bc there is a possibility they might one day have a better life you have no intention of bringing into existence. Another big reason I was hurt by the prolife movement is that I have fertility problems. At one point the town I lived in had a Planned Parenthood that could’ve provided health screenings and contraception and OB checkups bur they were literally run out of town by our local pro-lifers even tho the clinic never provided abortions. Bc of this and the fact that my abusive parent worked at the only hospital in our area, I wasn’t able to get any kind of birth control other than condoms, which promptly failed and left me with an unplanned pregnancy I couldn’t see the doctor to monitor. I actually didn’t want to end my pregnancy, just make sure I had a healthy baby bc I was about to move out with and get married to my high school sweetheart. Unfortunately I had a serious complication that could have been found early if I’d been able to have checkups but instead only came up after it threatened my life. I’d tried to get an ultrasound early on at the CPC that’d replaced PP in our town but was turned away for literally lifesaving medical help bc I told them I wasn’t considering an abortion. The same people also found out I’d lost my pregnancy and started telling people around town that I was a baby killer after I not only lost a baby I already had a name and a nursery for, but also nearly died in the process and had my fiancé break off our engagement bc he was too emotionally messed up by what happened... I also had to have a D&C as I’d only partially miscarried but wound up having to wait for WEEKS and eventually travel to a different state bc despite my baby having no heartbeat my state officially decided it counted as a late term abortion which would have been illegal. I wound up developing sepsis and almost died for a second time. In the last couple years I’ve learned that that initial lost pregnancy and the fact that I was forced to wait for treatment after losing it directly caused damage to my uterus that has made it impossible for me to carry a pregnancy to term now. I’ve lost 3 more pregnancies since then and am actively trying to get my tubes tied bc getting pregnant is both something I’m extremely capable of and something that is nearly guaranteed to cause me serious physical and psychological harm. In the process I’ve learned that the same groups that rally against abortion have also rallied against contraception and sterilization. I have to fight every single month with my insurance company to cover my life-saving contraception bc they’re catholic owned and as such think preventing pregnancy is as bad as ending it. They won’t cover my tubal ligation either despite it being for a medically necessary reason, but even if they did literally every doctor I’ve talked to has said they won’t bc I’m too young, not married (despite being engaged to a man who I made this decision with), or don’t have any children yet. They literally won’t let me make a decision about my body or my life when the stakes are life or death bc they are so sure they know better for me than I do and seem to demand I use my body to make babies based on their personal beliefs. I’m not even preventing myself from having children, just making it so if I do it’s safely, using a surrogate so I don’t die in the process, and genetic testing so I don’t pass down my health issues to my children. But there are simply too many people with a vested interest in what I do with my womb ready to straight up sacrifice me for no gain then say they were doing the moral, godly, life-respecting thing by forcing me into a deadly position.
I actually did once end up debating a bunch of pro-lifers outside the context of a formal debate (I was doing work in the common room their club meeting was in and just HAD to say something lol) and the conversation had to end because they kept saying "pregnancy is a natural risk of sex," and I would say "it doesn't have to be, if you allow people abortions," and they would say " but pregnancy is a natural risk of sex" and I would say "it doesn't have to be" and they would say "but it is" and so on. it made me realize that pro-life isn't really about unborn babies, it's about creating a world in which women no longer have sexual freedom. convincing a pro-lifer that life doesn't begin at conception won't change their mind - to truly convince them, i think i would have needed to shift their deeply held values until they believed it's not amoral for a woman to have sex with multiple partners, outside of marriage, which I just couldn't do.

However, just because they have suffered does not mean that their child should suffer as well. The child will likely have a tough life, but killing them before they can experience their life is not the correct answer. I nearly died this morning. Some of my internal organs will shut down if I am not able to maintain a proper blood sugar, and my blood sugar got so low last night that I was close to death. My life is rough, but I would far rather be alive than killed by abortion before I could experience this pain.
Pregnancy is a natural risk of sex and abortion would remove that risk, this is true. Heart attacks are a natural risk of being elderly and killing the elderly would remove this risk. Autistic children is a natural risk of raising children and killing a child showing symptoms would remove this risk. Overpopulation is a natural risk of letting the week live and killing anyone with a disability or some mental problem would remove this risk. Killing someone to remove a risk is not the answere. Yeah thats not okay. Your parents put themselves in that position. Everyone bc can and will fail, so why think you won't be small %? I know how reproductive health works. And I also know that abortion is not murder. By letting a fetus develop into an unwanted child, you are doing so, so much more harm. To the mother, to the child, to the community.
@@msjkramey Like I said darling, Please educate yourself more on the subject. Specifically on why majority of biologists agree that life starts at conceptions and how human is still human no matter how small.
As a pro-choice person who was raised in the Catholic church, many pro lifers focus on abortions and advocacy of the unborn as a way to feel like they are doing something/ being a good Christian, without having to actually help those in the most need, sacrifice their emotional and financial resources, or deal with the complexities of helping a flawed human being. If you advocate for the unborn, you are only on the hook for 9 months to help something without the capability of making your life harder or challenging you and your thought system. It is the easiest way out, and wrong.
Also because of a similar upbringing, I actually know for a fact the Bible not only doesn’t condone abortion, but actually tells people how to go about it. Numbers 5:11-31, “Bitter Water” being basically a mix containing wormwood, a known plant that is still used in the region.
I don’t agree with you at all we could have debate🤔 but I believe you don’t have good points you made a cherry picked argument. 1 because if you’ll stand for the pro choice then you need to stand for men having a choice in this as well but most pro choice ppl are sexist in that way men never had a choice and that is the truth that needs to change men should have the right to say no before the kid is born and not be put on child support or be deemed a dead beat. Just because he wasn’t ready for a kid doesn’t make him bad just because he wants to do other things in life it doesn’t make him bad. And if you say then don’t have sex you are committing what pro lifers commit and you all don’t like that. 2. I agree woman that are raped should have access to abortions and woman that can’t financially handle it other than than that I don’t agree that they should be able to. 3. There are multiple forms of stopping it from happening and just because your to lazy doesn’t make it not exist.
They care so much about the fetus's "life" until it actually comes to life out of the womb, they don't care if it gets neglected or dies from cruelty afterwards.

I guess we all can kinda empathise with that because we all are alive and it would be hypocrisy to say "I didn't want to be born" because then we would already have killed ourselves... It's just also the best arguement they ever make, Pro-Choice is not Pro-Abortion, it's about choice to see who can have a baby and talk about options and all that stuff. I'm saying this because it's the only thing that could actually make me stop and talk about the negative aspect of abortion. But a fetus of this size, wouldn't they need to cut it up or something? Would be more interesting that way.

Because one or more of those people actually had to go about making that image with the bloody fetus bits and all, so they could call pro-choicers disgusting monsters with no regard for unborn children. It's cloying and hypocritical, and ends up saying a lot more about the anti-abortionists who made the posters than it does the people they're trying to demonize.
i'm jewish. comparing abortion to the holocaust is one of the most disgusting things someone can say. they're saying that my death is just as sad as the death of a clump of cells.
Next time one of those religious people try to bother you, use the following argument: If a hospitalized person's brain is dead, this person is medically and legally dead, and ventilatory support can be immediately withdrawn, EVEN IF their heart muscle was still beating (such withdrawal is not murder), which means that life doesn't start at the cardiac muscle or any other muscle in your body, but in your brain, and even though that brain-dead body has DNA and cells and even a beating cardiac muscle, it still doesn't mean it's alive. (according to both medicine and law). So, given that we're not God, we can only approximate when "life" (consciousness) starts. According to the Scientific American, consciousness requires a sophisticated network of highly interconnected components, nerve cells. Its physical substrate, the thalamo-cortical complex that provides consciousness with its highly elaborate content, begins to be in place between the 24th and 28th week of gestation. And less than 1% of abortions happen after the 24th week, let alone the 28th because "abortions" at those periods are simply premature births. And yet, if Moses or the unknown author knew about abortions, he would've banned it too, much like all the laws in the Old Testament (and church father quotes) that control women's bodies or mischaracterize women as Eve's based on earlier myths circulating the Old Middle Eastern region. Those earlier creation myths had three things in common: humans were made out of clay, knowledge and self-awareness are a pivot, and woman is the blame for the fall and suffering of the world. COMPLETELY coincidental, right? Moses or the unknown author were simply trying to deify their own culture, be that the validity of child marriage (a prerogative right for men at the time) or the validity of homophobia or transphobia (Deutronomy 22) and a power-thirsty need for control of humans they considered property. It is clear that those men nowadays are just following in Moses's legacy and it is no surprise. If one wants to reduce abortions, then they have to be disincentivised, namely by providing state support for mothers, reducing the cost of childcare. This is what bothers me about most pro-lifers on the right; they simply want to force women to undergo a huge expense for no reason outside of "morality." If you want to force women with unwanted pregnancies to have children, then at least don't punish them financially, because otherwise, they will get an abortion, and your problem isn't solved

My opinion on Abortions is this:I will never have one, I don't want to have abortions unless I absolutely have to, however I do believe that other women deserve the right to choose between carrying a child to term or aborting them. And I think it's wrong for organizations to convey Aborting as equal to Murder when it is not

I agree ,Abortions are traumatic and i hate how people in the comments are making it seem like it was easy peasy. People are selfish and think its cool to ignore the fact that a living fetus isnt valid, im pro choice but i also believe we should respect the fetus and not forget about it .
@@GiubileiFernando a Year late but I might as well address it, I'm saying that I don't think an Abortion is right for myself but other people should be able to make that decision for themselves. Not that I think Abortions are all-around a bad or Immoral thing just that personally I wouldn't have one unless I had to.
I've always found it rather telling how the vast majority of pro-life people don't support comprehensive sex education and free contraceptive access. They also don't seem to have any issues with in vitro fertilization clinics, which regularly destroy large amounts of fertilized human eggs. It's almost like saving babies is just a convenient smokescreen and their real goal is to punish women for the sin of promiscuity.
Well, Catholics where I am from are against in vitro, or at least the church is. They believe that discarding those fertilized eggs is murder and stigmatize parents who use that option. One priest even claimed that children conceived through in vitro fertilization are inferior and have marks on their body that can be used to identify them from the rest. But that's just in Poland where we live like it's the 1600s.
I think you hit the nail on the head. You make a very good point that it seems that pro- life people just want to punish people for having sex before marriage. As a Catholic myself I can definitely say that this makes sense because the Purpose of sex is to make babies. In this regard if you have sex and are not trying to make a baby, then you misuse sex because you are not using it for what is intended. So if we take away the ability to have an abortion then we may stop people from having sex before marriage because of the consequence that they might have to care for the child.
In Catholic school we were taught the Church considers in vitro to be similarly life-taking as abortion, but it probably depends a lot on where you live. They're not foaming at the mouth over it.
My dad is christian and he doesn't like in vitro. I think christians are just scared that tech like reproductive services and genetic engineering are making their bronze age theology more and more obsolete and they want to try and kneecap it.

[me, popping my collar]: well, actually, according to the Bible, life begins when a baby takes its first breath edit: also numbers 5:11-31 actually says that if a woman cheats on her husband and gets pregnant, she must get an abortion
The arithmetic of souls is a funny point. Sometimes twins develop earlier or later during the pregnancy. Sometimes twins revert into a single person during a pregnancy. What is happening with the souls of the babies during this?
It's about punishing women for having sex. That's it. That's why you can't say "what about banning abortion but having widely available free contraception and comprehensive sex education so that people understand what sex is and can take educated risks". They'd say "no, people would still be having premarital sex."
Yep, they are obsessed with forcing people to face the consequences of their actions. The Christian worldview is centered around sin and punishment and atonement, so the idea that someone can make a mistake or act irresponsibly and then sidestep the consequences is abhorrent to them. In this way, forced birth is just revenge. Talk about potential lives or killing babies is emotionally compelling but at the end of the day it always takes a back seat to just making people live by their book of rules at any and all costs, and punishing them if they don't.
It's premarital sex AND sex in marriage that's for pleasure rather than procreation. The pleasure part is the sin! That's why arguments about how most women who get abortions are married and have other children don't work for them, either. They are still angry those women had sex for pleasure and want to see them punished for it, on some level.
i can only speak for my (past) self when i say that i didnt really think like that when i was pro life. i personally only cared about that specific potential an unborn baby has and was so sure on it being an actual person already. for me and my parents, it was more like a too emotional way to see it by having empathy with the zygot (if that makes sense) which is why i viewed abortion as murder. i guess also because of the argument that god created every human being individually and by killing it you would destroy a gift from god. i think that many of the pro-life followers have different reasons to be pro-life. i consider myself pro-choice now and do not stand behind any of these values anymore.
In my experience, the debate on abortion is actually a proxy for a debate on what role women should have in society. And the anti-abortion position is really about making damn sure that women are shunned for stepping out of the role that conservatives think they should be in, while the pro-abortion position is really about making damn sure that women can be and do what they choose to be and do (provided it doesn't cause problems for other people).
Preach! I hate that we are stuck in this fetus-centric cycle with the abortion discussion, when there is so much to be said about women in that scenario, and how these anti-choice attitudes correlate with people's beliefs about women's role in society (just like you said). The sheer fact that this "embryo vs woman aka who deserves more rights" scenario even exists in people's heads as a legitimate conflict is direct proof that people do not believe that women deserve the same quality of life as men do, and that we are still considered property (of the state) and our reproductive organs are treated as a resource. It also speaks to the issue of physical self-governance, depriving women of the tools to control their own reproduction puts all the power in the hands of men - both to govern and to impregnate - and denies women control of their own destiny.
@@SamuraiShizuo what are you on about? If men could carry a baby to term itd be the same issue. just because some pro-life people are super trad means we can't value the unborn? can't dehumanize the unborn enough so you just dismiss everyone as bigots strategy
If you think about how pro-life arguments are inherently faith based (the justification for life beginning at conception is 'the soul'), then it stands to reason that there is an undercurrent inherent about demonizing women's sexuality. I notice that there are a lot of pro-life people who do support rape victims getting abortions, and think it should be an exception. But what makes the fetus that's a product of rape okay to, in their words, 'murder'? It's not the fetus' fault. People who fall into this camp, whether they realize it or not, are making their emotional judgement against abortion based on their personal (usually faith-based, thanks abstinence education) views about women having consensual sex. From the perspective of 'life begins at conception', it would not be ideologically consistent to justify exceptions for rape. But pro-life people frequently do. It reveals that their concern is really more about controlling whether women have sex for non-procreational (read: fun) purposes.

I remember hearing about that. I have no idea how anyone could do that to anybody, let alone a child. It's too cruel.
That tells you all you need to know about where their morals really are. For people that claim to care so much about children, they sure have no problem with them being used for perverts or being raised in horrible conditions.

Here’s how planned parenthood actually works:
What is "You will get your procedure done" a euphemism for? Call it what it is.
@@josemorgan8048 so out of everything I said...that’s what you take issue with? It’s a procedure, like what do you want me to call it?
@@chrnicgamer
How long is the interval between procedure and follow-up?

If anything it makes it more sinister. Christians have a very creepy brand of 'nice'.
That is christian bread and butter. Very nicely and politely condemning your entire existence
It's glaring that they can't see it.

The biggest killer to the "the soul enters the human body at conception" idea is monozygotic twins, generally known as identical twins.
During the first 14 days after conception the zygote can split... this either means that:
EITHER identical twins have half a soul shared between them and their lives are half as morally valuable as other people... which is ridiculous
OR only one of the twins has a soul and the other is a soulless evil twin... which is also ridiculous
OR a new soul is created or added in during the division process... which completely undermines the fundamental idea that the soul confers personhood at conception.
_Good twin evil twin dynamic_
this is so funny i'm gonna use this argument, thanks for the public service
I mean who doesn't love the evil twin trope

Exactly, unplanned = unprepared, people would rather punish both mom and child rather than help the mom.
Sending you love and thanks for testimony 🙏🏼
It’s sad

Ensoulment, in Christianity, is called..."the quickening"?
...maybe _that's_ why Highlander: the Source took the STUPID turn it did...
@@khill8645 I stand by my crack theory; nothing about that movie makes any sense as is.
I think this movie is even more ironic for one specific reason: Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization 🤔

I agree.
That's not an answer.
IN FACT, PREACHING ABSTINENCE ONLY HAS PROVEN TO BE NOT ONLY INEFFECTIVE BUT ACTUALLY MAKE THINGS WORSE!

implicitly sworn to bear true allegiance to my country, and to support its Constitution, if need be, with my life. Jesus Christ requires me to do unto others as I would that others should do unto me. The Constitution of the United States requires me to
do unto all working people
the very opposite of what I would
have them do unto me, viz., assist to keep them in a grievous bondage… But I am
quite easy. I vote on. I help govern on. I am willing to hold any office I may be elected
to under the Constitution. And I am still a Christian. I profess on. I find no difficulty in keeping covenant both with Christ and the Constitution…
Jesus Christ forbids me to resist evil-doers by taking 'eye for eye, tooth for tooth,
blood for blood, and life for life.' My government requires the very reverse, and
depends, for its own self-preservation, on the halter, the musket, and the sword, seasonably employed against its domestic and foreign enemies. Accordingly, the land is well furnished with gibbets, prisons, arsenals, train-bands, soldiers, and ships of
war. In the maintenance and use of this expensive life-destroying apparatus, we can
exemplify the virtues of forgiving our injurers, loving our enemies, blessing them
that curse us, and doing good to those that hate us. For this reason, we have regular Christian chaplains to pray for us, and call down the smiles of God on our holy
murders…
I see it all; and yet I insist that I am as good a Christian as ever. I fellowship all; I vote
on; I help govern on; I profess on; and I glory in being at once a devoted Christian,
and a no less devoted adherent to the existing government. I will not give in to those
miserable Non-Resistant notions. I will not throw away my political influence, and
leave unprincipled men to carry on government alone…
The Constitution says - “Congress shall have power to declare war…” I agree to
this. I endorse it. I swear to help carry it through… What then, am I less a Christian? Is not war a Christian service? Is it not perfectly Christian to murder hundreds
of thousands of fellow human beings; to ravish defenseless females, sack and burn
cities, and enact all the other cruelties of war? Out upon these new-fangled scruples!
This is the very way to forgive injuries, and love our enemies! If we only do it all in
true love, nothing can be more Christian than wholesale murder!

No one seems to really want to talk about what you said the last paragraph, or they shoot you down before you finish. Like ok this baby is here, now what? Baby is here, but mom still goes out and parties, does that mean the baby has failed at being a lesson for the mother to not do that anymore? What happens then?
Preach!!! 🙌🙌🙌
unlucky one That’s exactly what I mean.
It's nice to see someone of faith have a viewpoint similar to mine, it feels hard sometimes.
@@briangrosenbach I think the progressive Christian movement is gaining momentum, but there's a lot of evangelical/ fundamentalist nonsense to overcome as far as how non Christians see the Christian religion. I'm sure there are people of other faiths who would also identify as progressive.

Nocturnalux whoa
* [[There's also the fact that it's generally really hard to prove that a pregnancy was caused by rape if the victim didn't report the crime immediately, and not reporting is very common for a lot of reasons, and that's just one of the reasons that making abortion illegal with the exception of rape victims would be extremely easy to either get wrong in good faith or intentionally exploit to prevent rape victims from exercising their rights, but that's a whole other thing.]]
What it always comes down to, in my personal experience, is that pro-birth people believe that women who have abortions are trying to avoid the negative consequences of having sex.

(In my experience, it is _rarely_ the case that a "pro-life" person will make an explicitly religious argument, even in cases where they do happen to be religious.)
I won't go so far as to say the entire ideology of the pro-choice movement is based on lies, because there is one honest argument that I see from the pro-choice side, and it's a particularly powerful one.

If the body feels like it's in danger then it will be even more likely to reject the unwanted burden

My partner and I drove all the way from Mississippi to Oregon to get it done. We had to work very hard by ourselves to make it happen and it was almost too late.

This was so heart-breaking to read, I hope you're doing well now
I actually did once end up debating a bunch of pro-lifers outside the context of a formal debate (I was doing work in the common room their club meeting was in and just HAD to say something lol) and the conversation had to end because they kept saying "pregnancy is a natural risk of sex," and I would say "it doesn't have to be, if you allow people abortions," and they would say " but pregnancy is a natural risk of sex" and I would say "it doesn't have to be" and they would say "but it is" and so on. it made me realize that pro-life isn't really about unborn babies, it's about creating a world in which women no longer have sexual freedom. convincing a pro-lifer that life doesn't begin at conception won't change their mind - to truly convince them, i think i would have needed to shift their deeply held values until they believed it's not amoral for a woman to have sex with multiple partners, outside of marriage, which I just couldn't do.
They were correct, since you can't get an abortion if you aren't pregnant.

This argument suggests that 9 months of full bodily freedom, which is another way of saying 9 months without a parasite, is worth more than the entirety of another person's life. That fetus being like, "Don't do this! Don't do this" is kinda terrifying. But as Big Joel said, it is a display of body horror and not based in fact.

But a fetus of this size, wouldn't they need to cut it up or something?
Would be more interesting that way.
*CONTENT WARNING for descriptions of blood and gore* That particular scene reminded me of when anti-abortion people came to my campus, and set up these massive posterboards with pictures of bloody fetus bits scattered over coins, right next to pictures of bodies from Nazi death camps. Below them was a big block of text saying THIS IMAGE IS NOT DOCTORED.
It's shocking and horrible until you consider just how much effort they went through to shock and horrify you.
Even according to the Bible, Jesus died and sacrificed himself and carried a cross, not because anyone forced him to, but because he CHOSE to. Choice is what gives any love or sacrifice meaning.
Oh boy, wait 'til you hear about anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, transphobes, homophobes, racists, sexists, and pretty much everyone else with terrible views using that historical genocide as an easy out to portray themselves as victims.

A brain dead patient is distinct from an embryo or fetus in a number of relevant ways. A brain dead patient is a corpse with no hope of recovery. A fetus is on a clear developmental trajectory through all stages of the human lifecycle and is more like a patient we are seeing making a complete recovery in hospital than a brain dead patient

haha, if they end up only selling fries and sodas it'll also help maximize profits.
"it should be illegal because its immoral and people who do it should be hurt because they are bad people" isn't really a good sell I guess.

@@GiubileiFernando a Year late but I might as well address it, I'm saying that I don't think an Abortion is right for myself but other people should be able to make that decision for themselves. Nobody is forcing you to get an abortion, dumbass. That choice is up to you.

@@clixx13 They never want to say that, but that's the only explanation that makes any internal sense.
@@jenniferw7928 Yet, somehow they NEVER bring up punishing men for using sex for pleasure. Hmmmm, wonder why?
i can only speak for my (past) self when i say that i didnt really think like that when i was pro life.
i personally only cared about that specific potential an unborn baby has and was so sure on it being an actual person already. for me and my parents, it was more like a too emotional way to see it by having empathy with the zygot (if that makes sense) which is why i viewed abortion as murder. i guess also because of the argument that god created every human being individually and by killing it you would destroy a gift from god. i think that many of the pro-life followers have different reasons to be pro-life.
i consider myself pro-choice now and do not stand behind any of these values anymore.

@@tinbitberhanu8125 hard to know for sure. I could imagine a big anti trans person wanting a trans man to have an abortion, but that's different
