  • Joy-Ride to Sigulda - Switzerland of Latvia
Let's visit the place that all Latvians flock to in the Autumn, and discover the breath-taking city of Sigulda.
With a country that is known for its picturesque views, Sigulda in the Autumn is at the top of the list.
We climb stairs, and more stairs, and more stairs, to reveal one of the most amazing views I have ever seen.
If you visit Latvia, make Sigulda a priority place to visit.
With just a short drive from Riga, Sigulda makes for the perfect day out, but be ready for some stairs!!!
If you enjoy adventure videos in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, then grab your Vodka, some Zakuski and join me as we climb the stairs of Sigulda, The Switzerland of Latvia!!!

A couple of observations: the world is full of hidden gems like this. Sometimes punishment precedes glory, Joy is a really cool car! And finally, who knew Latvia had wooded valleys like this, I didn't. I like your videos, keep on exploring.

Hi Barry, you are so right.
I find it amazing how we tend to explore the world, but often overlook what is local and just as beautiful!
As for the pain... well the view was so amazing I would do it again.
And if you ever come to Latvia, I can offer you a Ride with joy... it is so cool and authentic.
Cheers for watching and commenting 👌 👍

@@J.E.E We have a river valley here in the Chicago area that looks like the river in your video. It's called the Fox river and has a lot of wooded hills leading down to the river. And I've actually seen foxes there too. Enjoy your journey! I bet the Baltic countries look beautiful in the winter with all their pine forests, anyway, cheers!

Went there last week of sept. for ZELTA RUDENS/GOLDEN AUTUMN, which is usually around that time & beginning of oct. Absolutely 1000% breathtaking. Wouldn't be anywhere near that at this time, however the GAUJA river valley is always spectacular. There is a road with swiss style chalets, past the bobsled track, on the way to the main road back to Riga. Glad you enjoyed your trip.....................but there's a lot more around there.

We were there around the same time and it is an amazing place.
Unfortunately I was restricted on time as I was traveling the next day but I will be back as I know I only scrapped the surface.
My main aim was to catch the views during the Golden time... the rest is not as time sensitive.

If you visit Sigulda you have to see the large castle ruins near the town and the early 20th one next to it. BUT, then there are the large impressive castle ruins up on the mountaintop called Turaida. That's the one Justin pointed the camera towards when he was at the top admiring the view. Also, there is Krimulda church to visit which is Latvia's oldest dating from 1205. Next to it there is a picturesque area with more of those old wooden buildings but nicely restored.

I love taking long walks like that in the woods with wooden gangways scatered about. After that long trek I'd feel like I just lost 10 pounds. The view is awesome. I watched your video on and off. Your Russian sounds better than mine. I really want to go through the Baltic States.

Sigulda is really pretty from water if you take canoe/boat/sup in Gauja from "Līgatnes pārceltuve pār Gauju" To Sigulda just amazing views.
