I remember watching this game with my at the time girlfriend, Samantha. I was a junior in high school. The happiest days of my life. Wonderful memories
I know Turner Field is a better stadium but I still miss Fulton County Stadium. Went to a handful of games there as a kid. Don't like that Turner Field is being left so quickly.
+Trey The stadium itself was good, but it was located in such a bad place. Nearest MARTA station was too far from its entrance, inadequate parking spaces, and terrible ATL traffic were the premises for which they built ST.
OMG. I remember watching this live when I was 15. I remember being so excited to see Lofton in CF for the first time. I remember BEING there about a month later to watch Andruw Jones hit a walk off against the Padres. Thank you for the video!
Hard to believe that I only got to go to one game in Turner Field history when the Braves were out of the playoff race on the final day of the regular season.
CANNOT believe it's already been that long ago. And to correct Pete at the beginning, the Yankees didn't steal the title that year, the Braves gave it to them.
True fan my friend! I grew up in Georgia and still live here, we get the games in our local channel lineup. But if I were in your situation I would do the exact same! GO BRAVES!!
Hearing the Braves today just doesn’t feel the same. I miss Pete, Skip, Ernie, and Joe calling games. Just isn’t the same now that TBS doesn’t carry Braves games anymore.
@@RaidingJaguarX Yeah, those guys would love this current Braves team they run, hit for power, ect... But, Turner wanted a shot at a National tv deal and the Braves window had shut from 06-09. Maybe if they had won 2-3 titles in the early 00s, things might have been different.
And in 2017...... This stadium will be gone. This is crazy how this stadium is going to be 20 years old and already be torn down. I am a Redskins Fan and we are going through the same thing of moving out of FedEx Field where Snyder already wants to move out of Landover.
milliamanforlife I guess I can get the LA dodgers getting a new stadium,it's such a lovely field imo. But what's wrong with Petco? It opened 11 years ago and besides being the worst hitting park in the universe is actually quite nice. You're dead on with Oakland though.
+capsman09 Not to mention the Georgia Dome which will be replaced by Mercedes Benz Stadium. If it happens in the DC area get used to these letters if you want season tickets: PSLs. We have them in Baltimore, but they hold back some tickets for single game sale since they place was publicly funded and to appease the politicians constituents.
Went there on May 24, 2007. First time ever and the last year TBS had the Atlanta Braves on TV. Also, the same day Smoltz got his 200th W vs. Glavine and the Mets. It was also exactly ONE WEEK after my 20th Birthday. That day was Heaven. The #1 thing off my bucketlist.
@@AJ42K My first two games there were the last two games of 2006. I was a season ticket holder from 07-09 was also there for Smoltz 200th win, 3,000 strikeout and Maddux number retirement.
I still don't get why there moving though after only twenty years there. A waste of money. The fans still show up to the games on the weekends it's full. Even when the team is loosing. I take it it's the city's fault that there moving or somebody tell me the story.
I was actually at that game, sitting in right field. It was actually pretty hot. Weird to see how many changes have happened at the Ted since it opened.
One of the more absurd things in sports that this venue was given up so quickly. Imagine if a team like Oakland or especially Tampa (never had a true baseball stadium in their entire existence) could have just gotten a Turner Field.
It's still in use. From 1996 Olympic Stadium to Turner Field to GA State Football Stadium. The braves wanted to stay and develop the area to what the battery is now but the City of Atlanta didn't want to work with them. So they researched and left.
briagadaress It's not the front offices fault its the damn city. Blame the mayor for not giving them what they need to make fixes to the stadium. They had no choice
+Halo Maker 30 bull fucking shit, yeah I feel really bad that some billion dollar corporation isn't getting hand outs from the city to fix their new stadium. Sure that money can go to hospitals and schools and fire stations, etc, but no, the citizens need to pay head over heals to fix a relatively new stadium where grown men play a children's game. That's clearly the priority here. God bless the mayor of Atlanta!
amlnet49 They minimum life expectancy of a stadium should be at least 30 years, I predict long traffic jams trying to get into SunTrust Park, dumbest location, should have been near a MARTA rail line.
With the way stadiums are built these days, and how expensive they are, a park's life expectancy should be at least 50 years. It's pathetic that the Braves are opening a new park this year and that the Rangers will be opening a new park in 4-5 years.
they started construction long before 1996 to be honest, so they are awarded the Olympic games in 1990 and they start construction at least 4-5 years before the games so the life cycle technically of Olympic Stadium/Turner Field was actually around 25-26 years at the end of 2016 and not to mention the log jam of traffic and not so fan friendly atmosphere they made the right choice moving to The Battery
Bartolo Colón lasted more in big leagues than this stadium, lol
I remember watching this game with my at the time girlfriend, Samantha. I was a junior in high school. The happiest days of my life. Wonderful memories
I missed seeing the Braves on TBS and Turner Field was way ahead of it time!!
2021 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!!
I know Turner Field is a better stadium but I still miss Fulton County Stadium. Went to a handful of games there as a kid. Don't like that Turner Field is being left so quickly.
Turner field was once the Olympic Stadium, and now it will be replaced by a state-of-the-art Suntrust Field
Ritwik Sathe, Turner Field was fine the way it was. It got the job done.
+Trey
The stadium itself was good, but it was located in such a bad place. Nearest MARTA station was too far from its entrance, inadequate parking spaces, and terrible ATL traffic were the premises for which they built ST.
Rough area bad traffic and new suntrust is sweet
I loved Fulton county!
"the following is an exclusive presentation of Turner Sports", my childhood
Gives me chills

RIP Turner Field
Yep the Braves when they were a really good team that went to the playoffs in the 90s pretty much every year and won 1 ring on TBS
Shit, i'm gonna miss Turner Field....had a lot of good times there over the last decade or so
Hard to believe that I only got to go to one game in Turner Field history when the Braves were out of the playoff race on the final day of the regular season.
I miss seeing the braves on TBS!!
I come back before every season and I’ll never forget!! 😭
It's been 15 years since TBS hosted the Braves.
Man...I miss these days. Chop Chop! World Series Champion Braves
Im a Giants fan..but i do have fond memories of coming home from school and watching the Braves on TBS...Man i miss the TBS days
Damn near in tears watching this. I miss the old TBS theme and the lineup music!!
What a beautiful ballpark. Ridiculous that it's already gone.
its still there
CANNOT believe it's already been that long ago. And to correct Pete at the beginning, the Yankees didn't steal the title that year, the Braves gave it to them.
There was a bigger crowd on hand for this spring training game than there was for most of the playoff games that were played at Turner Field
+walterlv01 I went to the first "shake out" pre season game on Oriole Park at Camden Yards and they limited to the crowd to 36,000.
True fan my friend! I grew up in Georgia and still live here, we get the games in our local channel lineup. But if I were in your situation I would do the exact same! GO BRAVES!!
I like how the stadium was basic back then and now it's so advanced even the screen in the outfield and so much more goes on
And now it's Georgia State, of course this is seven years in the future
Me too. Now MLB blocks Sunday afternoon TBS games almost every week. It sucks.
Atlanta is stadium happy, all they do is build new ones after 20 years. Dodger & Angel stadium will outlive all of us.

So sad that this stadium is long gone.
This was when baseball was good
What time did WCW Saturday Night air that evening?
To think it was an Olympic Track Stadium, the largest in the state of Georgia at the time, only 7 months beforehand
And now its Pete Petit Field at Georgia State Stadium
The good old days!
i still have this game on vhs

we have been to that place

Ahhhh, the heart of the steroid era. Yup, baseball was so much better back then when half the league was hitting 50 HR a year.
The day after Sakura Haruno's 7th Birthday.
Wow the first game of a historic stadium...that will be demolished within 20 years.
It's not going to be demolished. Georgia St. is going to be converting it to a football stadium
I've heard they'll also convert the old AFCS site into a baseball stadium as well.

funny it was Derek jeter vs tom Glavine and the first pitch being a strike looking as how jeter was a rookie of the year in1996
