Mic 2 sounds so much better - amazing. Think I will get this. I find the microphone rubs on the wireless go if you don't position it perfectly on your subject. Thanks!
I prefer the rode mic but with a bit of EQ to brighten it up a bit.
This is something I came across on a shoot recently with. I had the Rode Go Lav in the Wireless Go and then the Rode Lav with a micon 5 connector into the RodeLink. I assumed these mics were the same capsule but the Lav Go was so much thinner and tinner than the original Rode Lav.
The Rode Lav Go is probably the First product from Rode I've been disappointed with, been buying their products for years.

Funny how some people can't tell the difference between the Rode and the Sony. The Sony is way too "crispy" for my taste. And, it really does pick up quite a bit of the room presence. It is best to LISTEN carefully with a set of quality headsets. When you do...it becomes very obvious.
Agreed there is a difference when you put them side by side, although in our continued use, the audio capture from the Sony is more than usable and we've used them in a whole load of corporate setups already.

I'm listening just on my phone speakers and I hear what you are referring to as clear as night and day.
If only the silver one wasn't discontinued. Can't find it anywhere (I'm in the US). Videographers that might get discouraged is anyone shooting in noisy environments or outside. I've seen other demos shot outside with those stereo mics and they pick up a lot of ambient noise, naturally, because the pickup pattern is extra wide due to them being stereo. It sounds excellent but won't work for me because a lot of my shoots are at trade shows and machine shops. Too bad, I really like their sound! One huge plus is that they don't peak very easily, even when the person is shouting.

Ha, I'm still cabled into an interface with an ancient Sony ecm 55b! :-) Mind you, I used to use DPA micro lav's through Sennheiser packs for live audio in a large church, those things were eye wateringly expensive (the lav's cost more than the radio packs!), but man did they sound the biz!
I guess that's the nail on the head isn't it? You get what you pay for, especially with audio.
Sounds like you need some better Wireless I have used DPA and many others and honestly the Wireless system has more to do with it than the mic as long as your using the correct style mic for the job. Something like a Submini Omni Lav like a DPA 4060, Countryman B3 or a Shure TL47 are all going to sound pretty close and this is a price swing from $200 to $600. But you put them on a junk wireless like a Shure BLX they a are going to sound bad. The entry to decent wireless is about $1,000 a channel so something like a Shure QLX-D. That said in something like a "Large" church I would not touch anything other than Axient, ULX-D or UHF-R (if you can get it in good condition and cheap)in the Main auditorium. Personally I have a Mix of Axient and UHF-R and use the QLX-D in secondary areas like Choir Room, Children's and Youth areas.

listening in on studio monitors. The sony sounds alot brighter. The rode sounds muffled.

I am a HUGE fan of RODE and for our Toy Review videos me and my son use those SONY Paired with RODE Wireless GO 2, I never decided if I prefer having the SONY FLAT or Vertical, I am no MIC expert but for some reason I like the sound of FLAT, any thoughts ? Great informative video, keep these coming! (I subbed)
The Sony is reflecting harder and harsher S's and I must say I don't care for the sound or the look. I'm not in love with the Rode either and I own that
The Sony does sound 'crisper'.
But which would you choose if difference in price does not matter?

Thanks for this review. IMHO if I am shooting corporate, that means I get paid for the gig(s). That means I really don't care that much about the price! But that's just me. I am more interested in #1 sound quality and #2 appearance. I would happily consider something up to USD500, if it gave me better results. My selections would be between a Sanken COS11 (USD379), a Countryman B3 (USD189), a Countryman B6 (USD294) or a DPA 660 (USD560). I would probably select the cheapest of these i.e. the Countryman B3 at USD189. Also worth considering the new RØDE Lavalier II for only USD99. On 2nd thoughts I will try the RØDE Lavalier II first. What do you guys think? Let me know here.
Haven't tried the Lav II just yet but as you've just laid out, you don't really care much about the price so why not just get the most expensive, or better yet, just hire in a sound engineer and you don't need to worry. Furthermore, if price isn't a problem, get in a whole production team so you can just sit back and count the coin. Just MHO🤷🏻
I used to use sennheiser mke-2 which are certainly good, but I prefer the clarity of the sanken cos11-d. I really disliked the muffled woolly sound of the rode lav in this video, but liked the Sony.
@@patrickpaganini I can't believe how well the Sony performs. 7 months on and we've used them on a tonne of client shoots with no problems whatsoever.

I agree with this. If it is for client work, I’m not really considering budget. I’d rather buy an exceptional mic the very first time that will last, deliver good sound and look professional. You don’t want to lose a client because they think you’re going cheap on the gear- the worst thing is they’ll probably never tell you that appearances is what cost you repeat business.

Is there any interference using the transmitter?
I have had issues with hum from my external LAVs on the Rode Go II. Tried different brands as well. Some sort of RF interference I think. Have you noticed any interference from these Sony's?
Can't say I've noticed anything like that. There is certainly a noise floor that needs to be dealt with in post, but nothing like RF I'm afraid. Sorry. If your warranty is still in, maybe reach out to Rode?

It's quite simple. You plug it in to the transmitter. Unless I'm missing something.

How is this a “test” when we’re listening to the same male voice, at normal speaking volume? How about a test with a little variety?
As for the Sony being stereo, yet “so close together” as stated in the video… they’re both facing different directions - just like our ears.
How is it not a test? It's a comparison between two mics with the same subject. This is the definition of a test.
Because there could be HUGE differences with a female voice, for example. Or differences with rejecting clipping, or noise floor with soft voices, etc…
So, I guess your test is wonderful for someone to make a purchase decision if they are only recording a male voice at a normal speaking volume.@@MusingOfaMan
@@DarrellB-g8z it's a perfect test to compare the microphones. What you're talking about is a field test. This isn't that and never proposed to be. 😁👍🏻
