So, some fun facts about Pluto! (...or at least, I find them fun): - It wasn't always the "9th" planet. For a while, Ceres (the plutoid that became part of why Pluto stopped being a planet) was actually our 9th planet, but a little more than 100 years ago they decided nah, it's not a planet. - While the smallness is sooort of part of why Pluto's not a planet, it's more complicated than that. Its smallness is actually what caused astronomers to finally define what a planet *was*, because there were other plutoids (aka dwarf planets) that were larger than Pluto, and why were they NOT planets and Pluto WAS? We... didn't really have a definition - So now we have two categories: Planets and dwarf planets, which as mentioned above are also known as plutoids! They named them "plutoids" in honor of Pluto, since it was the reason we now have a specific definition for what a planet is. - There are three factors that make a planet, and to BE a planet the celestial object must meet all three criteria. If it only meets two, it's a plutoid! The factors are 1) Must be around the sun in an elliptical orbit 2) Must have compounded its form into a spherical shape 3) Cleared its celestial neighborhood of debris Pluto (along with other plutoids like Make-Make, Ceres, and Eris) haven't hit the third criteria, which is why they're dwarf planets! :D anyway, I hope some of you also find this cool, and thank you for coming to my ted talk ^^;;;

Damnit, you made my look up when Pluto was discovered, because my head canon had always been that Pluto was part of the reason why Lovecraft wrote about space and the "unknowable". Pluto was discovered in 1930, which is after many of the stories were written. Much of it was published after 1930, however, so it might've contributed to the popularity. Actually, looking more into it, "The Shadow Out of Time" and "The Haunter of the Dark" were both written after 1930. The former was the one that gave me the head canon, with the planet "Yith", while the latter references the planet "Yuggoth", which is speculated to be Pluto.
