I would think half the drivers have no idea what the hand signals are meaning. Beautiful car, I love it.

I use hand signals with my '57 Ford 661 tractor, it came with with a red left rear fender running light. Live near a Pa State Police barracks, some times they will remain behind with their 4 ways blinking.

Could do something like I have seen on the front bumper of Cal Look bugs. They wanted to take the turn signal off the top of the fender so they put a small turn signal on the bottom of the bumper. This particular one used a clamp type mount to eliminate the need for drilling a hole. With the bright LED lights available now, small but very bright turn and stop lights could be put on both ends of the car. The wires could be put on the bottom of the bumper mounts. Probably pretty cheap, too.

That old car looked so appropriate rolling around the neighborhood streets of your town that it made all the "modern" cars look out of place! I love hotrods, but thanks for restoring that one!

Great work keeping it as original as you can. Those King Pins could be a bad Issue. But, love the work and the clean up. Especially getting the mouse nest out of the headliner.

What a great drive. No smoke!! I have never seen an aftermarket turn signal switch that could self cancel. Way too cool. And the mice! Talk about hard working. They are unbelievable . I am not sure that I would want to stick my hand into that mess. Good work. One of your best videos.

I’m almost liking these old survivor cars more than hot rods…almost lol.
This car reminds me of a 37 tudor V8-60 a friend had, it was an all original driver that had just been maintained and was still driving in the mid 90s. It was so fun to drive.

Looks perfect, almost original, my only concernswith the single rear light are 1. you will look like a motorcycle at night and some clown may rear end you and 2. If the bulb fails you rear end is completely unlit, safety supercedes originality

Awesome, I love this car Matt! I really like the clever but simple turn signal mount. Glad the mice damage wasn't too severe. Those mice can really wreak havoc on a car! I had a 61 Falcon that I rescued last year, and those dang mice had the entire cowl and vents jam packed! It was a nightmare getting it out, and the pee rotted a lot of the areas that are really hard to get to. Keeping mice out of my car is a top priority during winter storage.

How about pulling into your local drive-in for a burger or at least a quik-sak for some gas and a coke and film the reactions of the locals. People expect to see old cars at car shows but to see one driving around in it's native habitat so to speak as if appearing through a time warp would be interesting to see.

  • @stephenfrost2272

Those 1930's Fords all have great style and the old lady was bang on when she called the '34 'Beautiful'. You are right to respect the car's history with only mild changes like in this video. The age appropriate turn signals are the way to go with the car - so many people would have gutted it and lost all the patina and originality. Keep up the good work on all the projects!

Those old survivor cars are the most interesting of all. It's kind of miraculous that this one sat there in the barn for so long and nobody grabbed it and turned it into a dragster or some kind of low rider lead sled.
The Boyd Coddington types missed it in the 80's and 90's, so it didn't get turned into one of those high tech monstrosities either, and so it gets to remain exactly what it is, a really cool, reasonably well cared for old '34 coupe. I guess as long as you guys have it it'll be safe from the butchers and the hacks.
It didn't matter so much back when they were still cheap and plentiful and just considered to be old junk,, but they're getting kinda scarce these days, so it seems like preserving the survivors is the right thing to do.
It's only got 12 more years to go and it sees it's 100th birthday. If you guys still have it by then, you'll have to give it a party. It's a spectacular car, and you gotta love it!!!

In the UK the only time I see lit up arrows are road signs maintenance trucks tell me " pass to my right" not "i'm turning right" so not sure if all the motorists will understand you are turning, & it only takes one!

I had '39 Std. Ford and mounted tail/turn on the ends of the (somewhat stiffer than stock) leaf springs. If red lens could also be Stop. The head light housing contained a small "town" bulb like the Volkswagen that could be replaced by a turn signal bulb.

The dome light looks like one used in Model A's (Deluxe Coupe, De Luxe Tudor, Standard Fordors where the switch is on the rim. You're right that you need to remove the metal band that holds the lens into the housing. That will give you access to the screws to remove it from the block of wood between the two roof bows.
