Carrie Lam, the first female chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will have her five-year term ended this year. She says the experience, particularly the social turmoil in 2019, has steeled her to face any new challenge that might come her way. As we enter the new year, how does she evaluate the journey the city and she herself have gone through? Will she seek a second term? And what challenges does she see in the new year for the SAR?

How very different are the female leaders of Hong Kong and Taiwen. Carrie Lam is a strong and intelligent leader with great pride in Hong Kong and the mainland motherland. She acknowledges the differences of Hong Kong culturally, East meets west but never wavers in her support for the Motherland or enthusiasm and belief .that working together for all Chinese citizens regardless of where they live will deliver positive and successful outcomes. Unlike the Hysteria and war drumming of Taiwen president with unrealistic beliefs which can only end in sorrow and chaos for many Taiwen/Chinese people.

What an intelligent lady, Hong-Kong is lucky to have a wise leader who knows how to negotiate her ways in such complex political situations, hopefully Taiwan can learn from her and bring peace to that region of the world and our leaders in the west can concentrate on the problems in our own regions instead of trying to solve the problems of other countries when we have our own problems in Europe.

@@intothewrx No? China isn't breaking any laws as this is ultimately China and not Hong Kong. Who's breaking the law are the rioters which threaten and kill people. What do you suspect people are doing with bows and bombs? They don't try to fight back but they're killing people. Capitalism is just not meant to be a system for all but a few "chosen" people. It brought people to work full-time and only live in bad situations because some western countries always influenced Hong Kong to be a city for rich people. No one is caring for Hong Kong in the west, they just use it for their reputation. Did any of these so called "caring people" ever come to Hong Kong to do something? You see there are mostly hypocrites in capitalism which just don't do anything to really help people. Most people caring about Hong Kong live in China.

Back then I do not understand why would the people object for cheaper place option, but then I slowly see it as Mr Tung action will interfere with current property's owner interest, including those investor/developer who already paid high price for the property/land bank. If gov produce more cheaper housing, how could they gain? @pfaecom2 2 года назад +1

@@rubycheng8185 The keyword to “enlighten” your question should be “how”, and not “who”. For a moment, please just forget about the “old” ways, about how to “patch & modify” those Western democratic methods to “fit” the “body type” of Hong Kong… In my opinion, selecting a suitable Hong Kong Governor (hereon "HKGr"), to lead a unique city like HK under “one country two system”, should be more similar to the selection process of hiring a subsidiary company CEO under a mega-size global conglomerate company. The HKGr qualification requirements, shall NOT only be based on the existing capabilities, but also the future potentials of the subsidiary (HK), and most importantly, the vision of its parent company (China), on how this subsidiary (HK) can continue to strive competitively, not only on the global stage, but to earn the most advantageous, viable, and relative placement among other subsidiaries (similar sister cities of China), and without unnecessary “waste” from duplications, or unhealthy competitions to dampen the master strategy of the parent company (the long term resurrection strategy of China)… Only the most suitable and qualified HKGr candidate should be “selected” by the company Hiring Committee (with members from both HK and China - those with proven track records/know-how from all technical frontiers). In addition, another over-seeing authority from the parent company (China) must also be able to act quickly upon complaints/evidence submitted by implicated complainants, and may act legally to punish, reselect new HKGr, or revise company policy (laws & ordinances of HK) as needed to prevent the similar problem(s) to resurface again… For sure, making these changes must be subject to huge oppositions from parties with selfish interests as well. However, this pandemic, especially right after the Winter Olympics, seems to be a “window of opportunity” for China to make all changes necessary, and against all odds, to fix all root causes to these stubborn, long-lasting “internal” problems (including those from HK, Taiwan… etc.)! This is just a tiny facet from my envisions... due to the time/effort required on my part to reply, I will NOT put forth any further regardless of which “camp”, or what your real intention may be. Best wishes. 🤔🤔

A HUGE THANK YOU to CGTN and Liu Xin for doing this video with CE Carrie Lam. I am a citizen of China Hong Kong. In general the quality of the mass media and KOLs in HK is so poor and unethical that the government exists as the target of populist attacks day and night no matter what. The CE and government officials are subjected to continuous ridicule and condemnation. Right now there is a coordinated effort to prevent Carrie from running for a second term even before she shows any interest in doing that. These people did the same thing with the all previous CEs. That is why I have serious doubts about their motives. To be fair, CE Carrie Lam has been doing a good job in view of the unprecedented situations that we faced in the last few years with both external and internal enemies singing anti-China anti-HK chorus all the time. The external forces have been so successful in infiltrating HK that nearly all the universities and the education section have been held captive. Their influence is literally ubiquitous. Even with the National Security Legislation, there is still a lot work that have to be done before we can seize the POWER OF DISCOURSE. Sad to say, meanwhile, this power is still in the hands of the hostile forces/brainless mass. In view of this, your video is really valuable.

旗袍 in Hong Kong is often called the Cheong Sam 長衫, literally long robes. It is a traditional Chinese attire that is rather body hugging and flattering to ladies who has the figure to flaunt.
In Singapore, some ethnic Chinese Singaporeans would wear Cheong Sam during the Chinese New Year as part of the Chinese culture and custom. Nothing political about it. It does not mean that they are in support or not of mainland China.
Likewise, many Singaporeans have English names, often mistaken to be a Christian name but it is really just an English name, given that Singapore's main business lingua franca is English. First language in all public school in Singapore is English. That does not make us Christians or in support or not of the West.
Having said that, I know of some Singaporeans who are deluded bananas, embracing the West as their identity and culture, and even migrate to western countries, only to realise that they are at best 2nd class citizen.
Love it when people politicise things just to make an issue of it.

    • @binzen7173

Singaporeans wearing cheong sam for CNY is different. That’s not a political or formal event. People especially public figures do wear cheong sam to establish an identity. Last time Teresa Teng always wore cheong sam during her concerts for this purpose.
On English names, I always wonder why LKY family members never had an English name. Civilians can do whatever they want but wise politicians are definitely aware of the implications of their actions.

Essentially, the HK government was bascially dysfunctional with a legislature more interested in filibustering for political games and leverage, heavily influenced by powerful self-interested parties and lobbyists (property tycoons, factional politics, localists etc) and pressured by the very visible influential foreign elements. It's time to take out the trash and do a hard reboot and reset. The facts and figures speak for themselves HK SAR was falling behind Shenzhen. Carrie Lam tend to blame the anti-China forces but interestingly Liu Xin countered by saying you can't just blame anti-China sentiments but what could have been done better (i.e. what mistakes were made). Other tough direct questions about low turn out of voting, is this truly representative, press freedom with shutdown of media etc. No free passes even from CGTN.

She has done a good job, amid the very (terroristic) protests paid by both foreign and local ill forces, but her stance was clear, concise and did well to emit from the ruckus of destruction albeit with the support of the New security laws (from China & HK) ... is not fair just to write her off yet, considering with in the micro economic front sustaining and maintaining what HK is today, is any wonder any one would have otherwise.

HK covid cases were very well control in the last several months with zero local case, all returning HK residence need to go through 21 days of mandatory hotel quarantine and go through at least 5 to 6 covid test with negative result before release back to society. But Sophia Chan who is the top government official who set up all the covid regulations have fail to sustain covid spread in HK again and again in the pass 2 years, first she continue to allow different standard of quarantine protocol, for example, she allow ship sailors to come in and out of HK and allow them to enter the community so these sailors have infected our community, recently airline crew members have infected their families and the community by violating a self quarantine protocol from home and not in a designated hotel. My question is why Carrie Lam does not fired Sophia Chan nor even criticise her for total failure of her quarantine protocol? In mainland, Sophia Chan would have been fired long time ago and even Carrie Lam. I hope President Xi will review these two persons failures and help HK to put capable people to regulate HK. Thank you 🙏

I personally do not believe Lam can measure up to the “requirements” of leading Hong Kong. Then someone asked me “please tell me who can?”. The keyword to “enlighten” that question should be “how”, instead of “who”. For a moment, please just forget about the “old” ways,... about how to “patch & modify” those Western democratic methods to “fit” the “body type” of Hong Kong… In my opinion, selecting a suitable Hong Kong Governor (hereon "HKGr"), to lead a unique city like HK under “one country two system”, should be more similar to the selection process of hiring a subsidiary company CEO under a mega-size global conglomerate company. The HKGr qualification requirements, shall NOT only be based on the existing capabilities, but also the future potentials of the subsidiary (HK), and most importantly, the vision of its parent company (China), on how this subsidiary (HK) can continue to strive competitively, not only on the global stage, but to earn/own the most advantageous, viable, and relative placement among other subsidiaries (similar sister cities of China), and yet without unnecessary “waste” from duplications, or unhealthy competitions to dampen the master strategy of the parent company (the long term resurrection strategy of China)… Only the most suitable and qualified HKGr candidate should be “selected” by the company Hiring Committee (with members from both HK and China - those with proven track records/know-how from all technical frontiers). This is just a tiny facet from my envisions... due to the complication of these issues, time/effort required on my part, I will NOT put forth or reply further to anyone, regardless of which “camp”, or what their real intention may be. Best wishes to all. 🤔🤔
