    The nice thing about this add-on, is the developers are listening to the customers. They are releasing patches all the time addressing issues that people find. They are already on release 1.25 in just over a month....so that being said, eventually, we will have the product that it needs to be. Its actually really fun to fly and works well in an area that doesnt have a lot of products developed yet. Happy STOL flying everyone.

    Great review as always, ITBS. The Dash 7 is perhaps my favourite civilian turboprop, and because of that I was a little fearful of how well it would be represented. So far, I'm reasonably happy with it, but I hope PILOTS does some development work. Not just the obvious things like documentation, textures, taxi speed and so on, but maybe the combi version of the aircraft, complete with cargo door. Generally, I like this Dash 7, but I am left wondering what it would have been like had it remained fully with Sim Works Sudios. As said, future development and polishing is the key to this model's success - it could become a bush-flying classic in MSFS.

      Thanks very much once again, Paul! I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying the Dash 7 (particularly if you’re fond of the aircraft); it’s not a terrible product, just not the great one that we were all hoping for (as you say, I’m sure if it had been an SWS project from start to finish, we’d be looking at a very different addon!). Hopefully, PILOT’s will continue to put in the work and flesh the Dash out a little more.
      Many thanks for watching and happy flying! : )

      Hello Dennis,
      My pleasure on the review - I’m glad you found the video to be of use! I think many of us were looking forward to the Dash 7, so it’s rather a shame that the aircraft just isn’t up to scratch at the moment. Hopefully, PILOT’s will continue to work on the addon; waiting to purchase, is probably the best course of action for the time being (I’ll most likely revisit the Dash at a later date). . .
      Many thanks and all the best! : )

    Thanks for the review. From what I could see and hear during the flight, the review was very fair. I can forgive a lower score on visuals because my own imagination tends to step in and make up for any deficiencies but not so with sounds. Engine, touch down sounds, brakes, and even the switch sounds are all critical to me. When in poor weather, it is comforting to hear the "click" of a switch while your mouse cursor is weaving all over the panel so you know you activated something. (Whether it was the right "something" is another matter). While this is not the most expensive aircraft, there's a few that have been released that are of a similar price or cheaper, and have been better finished. This Dash 7 looks like it could be a fun regional airliner, hopefully it will get the updates it deserves. Thanks again for taking the time for this review - have a great weekend.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      Spot on Mr Squirel, I couldn’t agree more; excellent visuals are always nice to have of course but, sounds play such a huge part in immersion. Mario Noriega’s C22J is a prime example - not the prettiest aircraft by any means but, one of the most immersive and enjoyable options in the sim because, the little Ventura just sounds the part and flies the part! The Dash 7 could be brilliant fun but, PILOT’s still have quite a bit of work to do first. . .
      A pleasure as always! Many thanks : )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations My adventures were in a Brymon Airways Dash-7 before they were absorbed slowly by BA and BEA, eventually being rebranded into BA City Express. I think Brymon's Dash 7's were used to test approaches to London City before it was opened. I do remember one of the captains I used to fly with strongly resembled Count von Count from Sesame Street and knew it, entertaining me with "Engine one start ha ha haaaa, engine two start, ha ha haaaa" - strange what lives with you 40 years later!

    Bought the Dash-7 today and getting to grips with it. I really enjoyed flying it thanks to your great vid (and a Pelita Air operating manual - for the real aircraft! - online.) Yes, it has its flaws as do most aircraft in the sim and no, it’s not ‘study level’ but it’s enough of a challenge for me (a non-pilot irl) to set it up and fly it. Similarly, the BAE 146 and LVFR Airbus (A318, A320, A340) are enjoyable simulations on X Box X. It’s all subjective of course but I’m happy that MSFS manages to cater to a very wide range of different aircraft enthusiasts and simmers.

    Good review. In the 80s, I logged 800 hours in the Dash 7, all as First Officer. Amazing aircraft! Your approach speed seemed normal for the flap setting. You correctly noted that the deck angle seemed high on approach. Having a "hard" wing, a normal approach profile would have been a bit nose-down. I've noted the same thing on a freeware version I use in FSX.
    You might try a full flap STOL landing. We used to do them at KDCA, runway 33, hold short of 36, ref speed 65 knots, Captain's landing only. Your landing was great! The Dash 7 was a hard plane to land smoothly. Have you ever done a review on the Shorts 330? I've got a say about that thing!

      Very interesting, that some of my observations matched up with your real-world experience; clearly the flight model could use some more work then. It was a tricky addon to land nicely, so I guess PILOT’s for that right at least haha.

    As usual, another great review! I must say that I find your reviews invaluable because I'm the kind of buyer who is far too easy to please, LOL. Only after I've bought a product do I realize that I should've been more particular in my assessment.
    That's why your reviews are among the best, if not THE best I've ever watched. For that reason, you may expect to see a donation from me shortly after I post this comment.
    For me, choosing to buy an addon aircraft depends a lot on just how much time I want to spend throwing switches as opposed to getting in the air. That said, I also tend to weigh the price tag to the level of quality and as I write this, I've yet to check on the cost of the Dash 7.
    I have no idea what the price for it is at this time but I think I will probably buy it if the charge is $25 USD or less. On the other hand, I agree that it seems strange for the developer to overlook, ignore, or otherwise consciously choose not to apply the sounds of the toggle switches to the entire system.
    I'm not a programmer but it seems to me that a simple sound feedback subroutine wouldn't be very hard or even time consuming to add to this aircraft. There were some other things such as the rear gear's hydraulic animation when you touched down. I don't think I saw it animate any compression when the plane came to rest on the runway.
    If it did, I must have missed it but as I said, if the price is $25 USD or less, I'll probably buy it because I always liked this plane. The DC3 still remains my favorite real-world airplane but the Dash 7 was always a close second for me.
    Thanks again for the review!
    Rich

      Thank you very much for the kind words Rich and indeed your very generous donation (I wasn’t able to put 2 and 2 together at the time but, I assume your donation was through Paypal?)! I know it sounds cheesy but, it really does mean a lot, that people value the content to such a degree.
      Funnily enough, I was always the exact opposite when it came to purchasing addons; when I was at the height of my simming “obsession”, I was also a poor kid / student haha, so I had to be very choosy with what I purchased / which addons were going to give me the most value for money. These days, I purchase A LOT more addons of course (primarily for review purposes) but, perhaps that’s where my “natural” tendency to review things comes from haha.
      I guess you will be aware by now but, the Dash 7 is indeed $20, give or take. I do think the addon could be much improved from what it is but, for that sort of money, one can look past a lot shortfalls. I enjoy the Dash 7, I just wish PILOT’s had paid a lot more attention to the finer details (especially given that they had access to the real world aircraft). Assuming that you did pick up the addon, I do hope you’re enjoying it!
      Many thanks once again! It’s very much appreciated. Happy flying and the best : )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Yes, I donated it from my PayPal to your PayPal account for $15 USD on Nov. 11. I think your reviews are easily worth more but you can be sure it won't be my last donation to Into the Blue Sims.
      Actually, I did go to the Pilot’s website and saw the Dash 7 price well within my limit. However, I didn't buy the Dash 7 because I was still undecided. Then about an hour after I watched this review on the Dash 7, I happened to catch your review of the Wing42 Boeing 247D.
      In a strange way, the 247D reminds of my favorite plane, the DC3. That, and your review helped me to decide to go with the 247D instead of the Dash 7.
      I installed it a few days ago and took the 247D for a flight. It was every bit as good as your review indicated and even though there are a few small things that can be improved, (as you had mentioned), the plane’s quality was still far better than the price would have one believe!
      Perhaps the developer will have a chance to get to those details at some point but IMO, the 247D as it is right now, is worth more than what Wing42 is charging for it.
      After I flew it in several inclement weather conditions mixed with day & night scenarios, I began to think that I must have paid more than the $20.xx USD that I thought I paid. The quality of the textures and the fact that nearly everything in the cockpit was functional made me suspect that I paid more than I remembered.
      It took me a little while before I finally remembered that the 247D didn’t have any flaps, lol. (I kept listening for the flaps to be deployed when I would set them from my controller until it finally sunk in).

    Always enjoy your reviews and other videos! This is the type of aircraft I'd really enjoy in MSFS but I only really enjoy the top shelf of quality. I support developers who aren't study level but deliver great value on interesting aircraft (AzurPoly is an example) and I'd love to have faith in something like this, but I'm well past spending money in hopes things will improve.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  7 месяцев назад +2

      Couldn’t agree more Josef; not every dev can produce Carenado textures, or A2A systems but, quality is quality (AzurPoly being a great example!) and we have enough choice within MSFS these days that, there isn’t much incentive to purchase mediocre addons (not that there’s anything wrong with doing so, if one so wishes). The PILOT’s Dash 7 isn’t “bad” but, neither is it great and with so many other addons out there, it’s quite hard to justify spending the money on at the moment (hopefully PILOT’s will turn that around).

    I got this last week, and I do like it, but you have noted those issues I noticed (the lack of good documentation and checklists), I was looking forward to this as I did not have a large short haul turbo prop (the ATR does not work on my machine), on my sim. The taxi issue is silly to say the least, I end up taxing using only the outboard engines in low flow, with the inboards in feather, this results in not so grazy a taxi. I notice the gear retraction sound is much too short. The props do need to work with the prop control of one's controller, cause as it is the single lever operation stinks. Prop sync would be very nice to have. IAS on the autopilot does seem to work, and it works muck like FLC on other autopilots. The reverse thrust does not seem to engage until the nose wheels is down. I think that is pretty dumb, but might be real world. I do notice engines 3 and 4 are much quieter than 1 & 2. I noted that the weight and balance of the plane is all off. Adding any cabin weight results in the aircraft being out of CG beyond the the aft limit. I truly hope the devs of this clean up this product, and get an in game check list, and there being a better PDF manual. I like flying this mod, but it does need work as you note.

      Well, I’m glad you’re broadly enjoying the addon, Pythos. An almost complete lack of documentation, is a little unforgivable and apparently PILOT’s stated that’s “due to the fact that nobody reads the manual” haha (a very poor excuse, if true). The taxi issue is silly, but manageable and I did notice the same with the gear retraction sounds but, forgot to mention it during the video (given that PILOT’s had access to the real aircraft, I was hoping that they would ace the soundset). It may well be true to life that beta range can only be engaged with the nose wheel on the ground - I seem to recall that there are other aircraft where this is the case. I really hope that PILOT’s continue to put in the work. We shall see. . .
      Happy flying and all the best! : )

      Cheers Øystein! Yep, it’s a very valid point that you make; we have enough (quality) choice now in MSFS, that mediocre addons just don’t cut it any more. PILOT’s did make the point that it’s “only” a $20 product and at one time they would have been correct. Unfortunately for them though, simming has changed a lot and $20 will get you a number of quality addons these days!
      The price certainly didn’t have me fooled (I loved Mario’s C22J, so I’m sure the Riviera is excellent) but, the aircraft isn’t really my cup of tea (it’s design is just a bit too ugly haha). Cheers for the suggestion though!

    On the real Dash 7 pilots taxi only using two engines (either side - either outer pair or inner pair). That will solve the aircraft pulling too hard when taxiing in the sim version and therefore quite accurate. You might advertise this fact as I see that there have been many complaints. The aircraft is however underpowered in the sim. Best to increase the thrust_power from 1 to about 1.2. This then gives max speed of 231 kias at 7,500.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Flodge,
      During the taxi in, I did configure the aircraft with the two inner engines feathered and the Dash still picked up speed at an (what I presume to be) unrealistic pace; the only reason I didn’t configure as such on the taxi out, was because I was already at the holding point for the runway. I do understand that turboprops will produce quite a bit of thrust at idle power but, is it really going to be enough thrust to almost get you up to Vr (that was the case with V1 of the Dash 7)? I don’t know if you flew V1 of the addon but, I think my comments at the time were fair. It may however be that PILOT’s have subsequently addressed the issue.
      Cheers for your feedback though. All the best! : )

If one keeps the 2 condition levers in Low Flow and the other 2 in the Feather detent, then the aircraft can be taxied around more “reasonably” to be fair however, you can nearly get to Vr at idle thrust with all 4 condition levers set the highest detent so, clearly there is an issue there with the flight model haha (I imagine it will eventually be corrected though).

      Hello again Botchi,

I’ve had no issues with the TBM personally although, to be fair, I haven’t flown the aircraft since the most recent update. If I recall correctly, idle position on your hardware throttle, should actually put the TBM into the beta range (so I don’t think the aircraft should be running away as it is).

The launch price is “realistic”, but do I want to buy something I’m not going to fly because the alternatives I already have are so much better? I think I will end up waiting, but if its anything like the Embraer, the right moment to buy may never come. There’s a big message to developers in these types of launches - if you can’t compete with the best, you might as well not bother.

      My pleasure on the video Steve, I’m glad you found it useful!
      Alas, I think many of us were looking forward to the Dash 7 but, the addon has turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment (thus far). Of course, PILOT’s will hopefully continue to develop the aircraft, to a point that we’re all happy with but, I think such development will take quite a lot of further time / effort.
      I think you raise a very valid point; competition in the sim these days is very stiff and as such, it’s quite hard to justify splashing out money on a mediocre addon. We’ve seen a number of single-man dev teams create some absolute masterpieces so, it doesn’t leave a lot of room for addons with lacklustre execution. I can get onboard with a dev that’s trying their best and listening to community feedback etc but, PILOT’s (sadly) often seem to blame everyone but themselves for their shortfalls. . .

    “Why exactly should we be "fixing" things, which exist, namely the "clunk

    The problem is, that soooo many "experts" having no clue are reviewing the
    aircraft badly!
    That is the Flight Idle Gate opening and closing dependig on weight on the
    wheels. That is an original sound from Air Tindi and happens to sound in
    every Dash 7 aircraft.
    Why the heck someone could even think a thing like that would be missed by
    the testers or our quality management at all?
    The uneven sounds are per design atm and will be changed over time of
    course.
    This aircraft is a 20 bucks piece and not an 80 bucks thing from PMDG! Why
    is everyone expecting it to work like the real thing at this price?!!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  7 месяцев назад +1

      It’s very “attitude-y” to be frank haha. I must say, I try not to get involved in any personal conflicts and keep each review as objective as I can but, Stefan seems to take criticism far more personally than he probably ought to (given that most feedback is legit) and tends to rather “shoot the messenger”. He chewed out my review of their B314, stating that it was ill-informed; 1) I don’t believe it was and 2) that wouldn’t have invalidated most of the specific criticisms that I made anyway. To my mind, an important part of any decent product, is good customer service and PILOT’s seem to be somewhat lacking in that department at the moment.
      Clearly, the Dash 7 has some issues at the moment. I hope that PILOT’s will acknowledge the weaker areas of their product and set about fixing them. I don’t claim to be an “expert” but, I was blessed with functioning eyes and ears haha (if the uneven sounds are by design, then why are they changing them??).
      The addon is indeed $20, which is “fair” but, unfortunately for PILOT’s, there are a lot of other $20(ish) addons which are vastly superior and therefore customers have high expectations these days!
      Either way, I’m glad you’re still getting some enjoyment from the aircraft (as am I)! Let’s hope that PILOT’s continue to put the work in, even if they do grumble about it along the way haha.

    I had already bought the Dash 7 before this review but hadn't had a chance to fly it, so this review came to late for me. However I think it has potential and Pilot's have already released an update, so I'm hopeful of more to come. If they correct the operation of the systems currently simulated this will become a good aircraft to fly. Not study level but fairly realistic. There is a lack of systems dependency on electrical and hydraulic power state. Spoilers should not stay up with no hydraulic pressure, for example. This is essential behaviour even in default aircraft.
    I found a Dash 7 FCOM online which answers a lot of questions I had. Pilot's have got the ground spoiler logic wrong. The spoilers should be retracted in TAXI mode, not UP as currently. When you select FLIGHT before takeoff the spoilers extend (illuminating the amber cautions) and will retract when either throttle 2 or 3 are set above 80% NG. In flight operation appears correct.
    According to the FCOM, No. 1 and 4 condition levers should be in MAX for taxi with No. 2 and 3 remaining in FEATHER but that's still too much thrust in this sim. I found putting No. 1 and 4 to NORMAL FLOW keeps ground speed under control, though you still need to dab the brakes to keep speed below 30 knots. All four levers should be in MAX for takeoff. The rpm and T5 settings used in this video work very well for climb and cruise.

      Thanks very much for your thoughts / info, Kevin!
      I’m sorry that the review came a little late in the day but, I’m glad you’re still getting some degree of enjoyment out of the aircraft (as am I). There is certainly still a lot of work to be done on the addon and I do hope that PILOT’s deliver the goods (though it has to be said, I gather their track record is pretty hit and miss).
      Funny that you mention the spoiler logic. I was lined up opposite a Dash 8 the other day and noticed he was lining up with his spoilers extended; I nearly made a call on frequency to let him know haha (it’s not something I’d ever noticed on the Dash before) but, saw the spoilers retract as he started to come up on the power.
      The Dash 7 does seem to be way overpowered on the ground, you can almost reach Vr with MAX RPM and the throttles back at idle haha. I’m glad you found the power settings useful : )

      Yes, quite an unfortunate series of events. The Dash was rather a letdown (annoyingly) but, at least if you’ve managed to avoid it, it’s money well saved. I heard about the Fokker; I’ve no idea what happened there. . . Is it back yet (I’m sure it will be at some point)?

    Ive gotten quickly spoiled with “study level” aircraft…..whatever that might mean specifically, not sure anyone knows. But either way, when all functions work, and texture details are reasonably realistic, I will absolutely have it. At this point I only fly a handful of aircraft in the sim because of it. I just find myself continually moving away from aircraft lacking details

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  7 месяцев назад +1

      That’s a very valid point, Jay and I suspect there are many other MSFS users that feel the same. There are a number of truly great addons available for the sim these days, to the point where one really needn’t settle for mediocrity within MSFS anymore. I feel a degree of sympathy for those devs who haven’t been able to keep pace with more modern production standards but, that is unfortunately the way the world works and some devs clearly put in more effort than others.

    The penny has dropped. Controlling taxi speed requires use of the throttle beta range in addition to leaving two propellers feathered. This is typical turboprop behaviour. If you leave the throttles at flight idle thrust will be excessive.
    Pilot's have already issued several updates to the Dash 7 and the simulation is improving. They are clearly actively supporting its development.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Simprove,
      It wasn’t so much that the penny dropped; the only reason I didn’t configure as such on the taxi out, was because I was already at the holding point for the runway. During the taxi in, I did configure the aircraft with the two inner engines feathered and the Dash still picked up speed at (what I presumed to be) an unrealistic pace. I do understand that turboprops will produce quite a bit of thrust at idle power but, is it really so much that you can almost get the aircraft up to Vr (that was the case with V1 of the Dash 7)? Either way, it is great to see that PILOT’s are continuing to work on the aircraft.
      Cheers for your feedback. All the best : )

    This is such a shame and such a missed opportunity honestly. They worked on this for so long with the help of SWS and they can't even be bothered making it a good airplane and just go for the quick money grab, effectively blocking the market from a decent Dash-7. This is a similar situation to the ATR except this one not endorsed by Asobo.
    Lots of great missed opportunities in MSFS sadly.,

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  7 месяцев назад +1

      Unfortunately, I have to agree with you Migui. PILOT’s had cooperation from SWS (an excellent dev) and access to a real-world Dash 7; the addon could have been superb but, is instead a rather lacklustre effort. As you say, the product will potentially deter other devs from attempting another Dash 7 also, which is a real shame.

      Work on this started back around 2016 for FSX/P3D and then it was shelved until PILOT's saw an opportunity for a quick cash grab. It's an old project and the touch-ups done to get it working in MSFS were obviously done on little/no budget.

    Don’t blame SWS for this plane. I think they did limited work. The blame is on Pilots, though they already admit they fell on this one especially the sounds due to illnesses. Hoping they update it significantly. But hearing you hold this against SWS is unfair to them.

    • @zOMGREI
      @zOMGREI 8 месяцев назад

      @@vlxxrd4866 There's some context that is worth considering, though. PILOT's contracted this out ~5+ years ago for FSX/P3D and then left this thing rotting on the shelf until they saw dollar signs with MSFS and basically dragged this thing back out of cold storage, and I doubt SWS received much, if any, extra funds to bring this up to modern standards. This is twice now that PILOT's has thrown SWS under the bus for ancient, abandoned projects, and I don't think SWS is on good terms with them any longer.

      SWS did the modelling, everything was Pilots as far as I knew? I have a vague memory it was going to be a purely SWS product by they sold it to Pilots, right? If that is the case that is truly disappointing. Especially after seeing the preview of their PC-12.

    • @zOMGREI
      @zOMGREI 8 месяцев назад

      @shinkicker404 PILOT's commissioned SWS to create the visual model for the cockpit *in 2016*, then for whatever reason, PILOT's just never did anything with that. They saw an opportunity to cash in with MSFS and dragged this thing back out. SWS did some minimal work to make it compatible with MSFS, but from what I've seen, that was done out of contractual obligations on minimal/no budget. PILOT's has been intentionally weaselly with their statements on the MSFS forums to make this sound like SWS had more of a part of it in it than they really did, but it was just models, textures, and some basic logic for animations. Looking at the final result, you can tell the texturing in particular looks like it was done to last-gen sim standards, and that's because it was. PILOT's should've left it in the bin if they weren't willing to pay to have everything truly overhauled.
