Sounds like balance chain. Maybe a tensioner failed.

Hey man, how can I identify the difference between a regular engine and a gti autobahn edition engine. What are some physical key things to look out for? My engine got work done and I feel like they switched it out for a regular engine. It doesn’t have the same pull as before. Aside from the feeling/drive I want to see if I can physically identify it on the engine itself.

This is painful to watch, This a common problem, its a cam phraser, not available on its own, have to replace the entire camshaft. most likely intake.

It just needs a lot of money spent on it. And after you do that the next requirement to spend money on it will come along. That is the life of owning these poorly engineered cars. There are way too many issues, best thing to do is when repaired sell it before the next thing goes wrong.
