Actually it doesn't really. Nearly every applicant to these elite schools have crazy good academic stats like this. My son had a 1580 SAT, 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.67 weighted. He took 13 AP courses and got a 5 on 12 of 13 exams. He got a 4 on the last one. His is bilingual (English/Mandarin). He is asian. He got rejected at every elite school he applied, including Michigan (me) and Columbia (mom) where his parents are alumni/alumnae. So don't underestimate the need for good writing skills and excellence/leadership in non-academic areas. The essays and ECs are the only way to differentiate between elite students who all look the same by academic stats. So far the stats presented by this gifted student in the video does not explain the high level of acceptance at so many elite schools. It only shows she was a worthy candidate. The ECs video to come will shed some light on her amazing acceptance rate.
I’m only a freshman but it’s honestly to terrifying to think about applying for college 3 or so years from now. I have no idea how the whole thing works (this is my first time going to public school) and the grading system is completely foreign to me. I’ve always been a straight A student, but this first semester is impossible for me. I recently got below a 70 on my math test, and I’m SO scared that it’ll impact me in the future. ( I have really bad texting anxiety, and math is not a subject I’m confident in)

If you’re White or Asian, your chance is even slimmer. Most of these kids in elite schools have perfect or near perfect stats and extracurricular activities that give them that extra boost to the next level. Yes great essay is absolutely needed. If your race works against you in elite college admissions , keep in mind that you’re not less capable. You’re way better than you think. This reverse discrimination will work itself out when you get out of college and into the real world. The right employers or whatever path awaits you will take you in a heartbeat for your accomplishment , not to just take you because you meet their diversity quota.
I don't think White people have reverse discrimination. Colleges look to fill the seats in proportion to the population, and White people make the majority. And Asians score higher on academics and it is way more difficult to be admitted if they're Asian. Also, I'm not sure this "reverse discrimination" is fixed in the "real world" for Asians. Ever heard of the bamboo ceiling in the professional world?

There really isn’t a specific extracurricular that you need but definitely try out a lot of them and see which ones you like best. The ones you like best are the ones you should commit to.
@@mxri_7096in freshman year you should just try as many extracurriculars and then find out what you like and then just try to have an impact with whatever you like
@@mxri_7096 Do what you like the most. Try and find a passion. If you have a passion for something, you are more likely to go above and beyond, and achieve great things with it(which will in turn look good for college). Find what you like to do, and become great at it. If you don't have the drive to become great at something, maybe your passion is something else. Freshman-Sophomore year I played recreational Hockey. I liked hockey, but I never took time out of practice to become better. End of sophomore year I discovered long distance running, and I fell in love pretty quick. I wanted to improve my running and discover my potential in the sport, which led to me training for a marathon and getting private professional grade coaching. Getting professional training and running a marathon, aren't small things, so a college will look at that favorably. Once I started to improve my running, I started to have the drive to improve other things. My grades went from Bs to As my junior year, I started changing the way I think, and I lost the loser mentality. Basically, if you find a passion, you are more likely to push yourself above and beyond in that activity which will look better for college and more importantly, for your own wellbeing. Idk if any of this makes sense, if this is too late of a response, or if you will see this, but I hope it helps.
