  • The Alberta government has introduced legislation that will lay the groundwork for a new provincial police agency separate from the RCMP, but there is no timeline or budget for such a change.

Thats the point in making the police provincial and not federal like RCMP. The RCMP is controlled but Ottawa. Something better like leaving the RCMP which has a high level of issues in various areas? Not having to worry about being transferred to a location somewhere in the Country you dont want to go? Yeah... plenty of things already better about a regional police agency. In fact, many RCMP officers in Alberta said they'd transfer their pensions over if they are allowed to move.

There are people who actually believe the "Serve" part of "Serve & Protect" It isn't about saving money, it is about helping Albertans be protected from crime which the current police don't seem to have time to work on. Maybe the current forces can work on speeding tickets and arresting journalists, and the new force can spend their time stopping crime and even arresting corrupt police and federal government hacks.

Essentially, it is as if the FBI is also the local sheriff. The Brits wanted a strong police force to prevent another rebellion.

First off, Peter Lougheed was the only good and sensible Conservative premier in Alberta. He also didn't trust Danielle Smith.
Danielle Smith didn't last very long as a public school trustee, as the Wildrose party leader, and as a radio talk show host, because of what she said and did wrong.
Danielle Smith made the Wildrose party get defeated to Alison Redford and the Alberta PCs, in 2012. In 2015, Danielle Smith got defeated in her own riding, in 2015, by another Conservative candidate.
Also, as the premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith angers constituents, contradicts herself, tells so many lies, flip flops, backtracks and does many very costly debacles.
Former Conservative politicians in Alberta, including ones who were in Peter Lougheed's cabinet, have said that they don't trust Danielle Smith and the UCP, because they are so dishonest.
So far, the UCP have made well over $80 billion in very costly debacles and mistakes, and the UCP have also given Alberta a mammoth debt that is now nearly $140 billion.
Rural municipal leaders in Alberta have said that they oppose an Alberta Provincial Police Force, because they say it will cost at least $1 billion.
Danielle Smith said that the Alberta Provincial Police Force would not be part of the provincial election agenda, I the last provincial election in Alberta.
She is now pursuing another thing that she didn't campaign on.
The only reason why the UCP wants an Alberta Provincial Police Force, is because the former UCP leader was being investigated by the R.C.M.P, for how he attained his position of power.
Danielle Smith will never be as great as Peter Lougheed was.
When you make the comparison with Danielle Smith to Peter Lougheed, it enforces the fact that you really have no clue.
Jack Tripper, and Janet and Chrissie saw how Stanley Furley flopped.

Second, the rural municipal leaders in Alberta have said themselves, that they oppose an Alberta Provincial Police Force, because they have said that it will cost at least $1 billion, and they don't have the money to pay for that. Third, rural municipal leaders in Alberta have said that municipal property taxes would go up greatly, in order to pay for an Alberta Provincial Police Force. Lastly, Danielle Smith said that an Alberta Provincial Police Force would not be part of the provincial election agenda in Alberta, in 2023. Why is she pursuing the Alberta Provincial Police Force that she didn't campaign on, and that rural municipal leaders in Alberta said they oppose? When all you can do is deflect to something else, it proves that you are absolutely clueless. This discussion is over.

Big difference in Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador. They had their provincial police forces for many years, so there is no start up costs. Rural municipal leaders in Alberta have told the UCP that they oppose an Alberta ProvincialPolice Force, because they say it will cost at least $1 billion. Danielle Smith said that an Alberta Provincial Police Force would not be included on the provincial election agenda in 2023. She is contradicting herself, once again. I've known an RCMP constable since 1973, now retired. (yes, Alberta). BUT the RCMP: was never designed for city service: it's a rural/para military operation, and should stay Federal, and change it's mandate/direction. City police are set up in levels: a constable does NOT make an immediate charge, then collects biased infor. to justify his decision. City police take their infor. to a detective, and "assessment" and the scene (larger picture) is made. Many Canadian cities have already either gone on their own and not renewed the RCMP contract., or are about to, and that makes sense. All things come to an end.

No it isn't good stuff. Here's why. Rural municipal leaders in Alberta have expressly told the UCP that they oppose the creation of an Alberta Provincial Police Force, because it will cost at least $1 billion. They want to keep the R.C.M.P. Danielle Smith said that an Alberta Provincial Police Force would not be included on the provincial election agenda for Alberta, in 2023. Once again, Danielle Smith is contradicting herself, because she is pursuing something that she didn't campaign on. The previous UCP leader was being investigated by the R.C.M.P for how he attained his position of power. That's the only reason why the UCP wants an Alberta Provincial Police Force. The UCP doesn't listen to the people who elected them, and wants them to pay at least $1 billion for something that they oppose, doesn't make them very Conservative. The UCP already did over $80 billion in very costly debacles and mistakes, so they were never a Conservative government to begin with.
