Only about 3 billion per year, with Alberta provincial expenses of 73 billion, it's literally 4% it will barely make a difference. The only thing Alberta can do is to have better management by adding a sales tax like other provinces and investing in a sovereign fund like Norway for when oil runs out or when oil becomes unprofitable. Alberta's oil sands is the most expensive type of oil to exploit if the barrel price goes below 100$ Alberta will be the one receiving aid. It's easy to complaint when you are the one paying but a few years ago (2019) Alberta received transfer payments fom the Federal.
Actually it’s over 13 billion a year and close to 700 billion since the 1970s. We have oil and gas for at least 200-300 years so I doubt we’ll be running out anytime soon.
@@albertapatriot3877 Not sure where you pull that off but a pro-nationalist Alberta website clearly says it's 3 billion this year. You also completely ignored the second part, where I noted that Alberta oil is the most expensive oil to produce, which will be the first type of oil that will be cut if oil drops in value, which it has done multiple times in the past. This would result in thousands of jobs and billions lost to Alberta's economy. As a result, Canada will have to bail out Alberta it happened MULTIPLE times in the past. It's easy to complain when you are the one paying. But remember that the rest of Canada paid for Alberta and still gives massive handouts to Alberta eg: the Trans Mountain pipeline which will cost Canadians 34 billion. Quick math if Quebec is 20% of the tax base it means Quebec taxpayers will give Alberta & BC 6.8 billion to fund it (and receive no jobs or direct benefits).
Should Alberta have a Provincial Police, sure. But where do you find the bodies for that Force? The Sheriffs have about 800- 900 Members, thats including court Officers,Provincial building Officers, transport Officers. RCMP have about 1800-1900 when fully staffed, and thats still not enough for this big province. Where will Smith get the additional 1000+ Officers? CPS? Nope EPS? Nope LPS? Nope Med Hat? Nope RCMP? Nope Remove all Sheriffs from the courts, provincial buildings and put them on the streets? Sure, security free court rooms and provincial buildings, judges, lawyers and politicians will love that. Policing worldwide is having problems recruiting and retaining Officers, it will be years before Smith could fill her Provincial Force, but that would be after racking up a huge bill for tax payers. The pay alone she would need to attract fully trained Officers is north of $120k yr. Surrey had to dish out major pay to get qualified Officers, $121k yr for 4 year Officer $128k 10 year Officer $134k 15 year Officer $140k for 20 year Officer If you think Officers would take less than that from a new police force at bargaining, your crazy Want to curb crime? Have stricter sentences and probation. Police arrest the same people over and over again, just to see them released and back at it with new tricks learned in jail. Its only a handful of people that commit the property crimes farmers and rural folks are screaming about. Lock those people up and it drastically goes down. Its time we stop blaming police and look at the politicians who actually have power to make actual change. Smith should be putting energy in stricter provincial laws and lobbing Ottawa to strengthen the criminal code. Not catering to her Take back Alberta extremist. They are not true conservatives, we see you MAGA Alberta, we see you 😂.

The problem isn't the RCMP. There are normal vacancies that come as part of running a police force. The problem is that the province and municipalities aren't willing to pay for the RCMP to have adequate staffing at the detachments so that normal vacancies aren't an issue. Basically they're saving money by having full staffing be the bare minimum required then blaming the RCMP when people get sick, injured, go on training, vacation, have a baby, etc.

Well ask yourself why shortage. Nobody wants to work for a corrupted RCMP By federal government. Smith did the right thing less to do with Ottawa is best for Alberta. Trudeau wants to destroy Alberta. Ontario has their own and works well for them so why can’t Alberta. Next she needs to get our own pension money out of Ottawa’s hands as soon won’t be anything left of that.
@@1951shine 99.9 percent of politicians are corrupt, some just take longer to get caught.
@@1951shine EVERY law enforcement agency can't recruit enough people. Federal, provincial, municipal. It's not just "not wanting to work for the federal government" its 'people dont want to be law enforcement"
How could this be efficient?
Is this even a serious question???
How could it not be? Paying for 500 vacant RCMP positions is the furthest thing from efficient.
The punchline is: All the crooked nasty RCMP were hired by the new Alberta sheriff's department! LOL
Is anyone so naive thinking they'll be hiring better brighter people outside the province? BTW your taxes will again go up to pay for it so double LOL
Premier Smith ROCKS!!!
This is a vendor issue, not a political one. If a vendor charged my organization 100% and delivered 75%, they would be replaced.
Imagine no transfer payments and that money staying in Alberta.
Sask right behind with own police force to top up RCMP
Hopefully we’ll see a noticeable crime stat. ⬇️
Imagine all of the money taken having to be payed back under international law. Which our phony constithtion, Clarity Act and SCC mandates.
I would dump the RCMP as a national police force. They would be political close protection, parliament security and embassy security only.
Disband the RCMP in Alberta all together. Literally no one in the community trusts the RCMP or has anything good to say about them.
We don't need the rcmp
Should Alberta have a Provincial Police, sure. But where do you find the bodies for that Force? The Sheriffs have about 800- 900 Members, thats including court Officers,Provincial building Officers, transport Officers. RCMP have about 1800-1900 when fully staffed, and thats still not enough for this big province. Where will Smith get the additional 1000+ Officers?
CPS? Nope
EPS? Nope
LPS? Nope
Med Hat? Nope
RCMP? Nope
Remove all Sheriffs from the courts, provincial buildings and put them on the streets? Sure, security free court rooms and provincial buildings, judges, lawyers and politicians will love that.
Policing worldwide is having problems recruiting and retaining Officers, it will be years before Smith could fill her Provincial Force, but that would be after racking up a huge bill for tax payers. The pay alone she would need to attract fully trained Officers is north of $120k yr.
Surrey had to dish out major pay to get qualified Officers, $121k yr for 4 year Officer
$128k 10 year Officer
$134k 15 year Officer
$140k for 20 year Officer
If you think Officers would take less than that from a new police force at bargaining, your crazy
Want to curb crime?
A good step towards Albertas independence from Trudeauz Canada.
just more of smith with her antagonism and hypocrisy as she comes out on TV with this lovey dovey smiling act in a new ad , - like she ever really acts like that , - what a hypocrite
I'm sure you are the first to insult Quebec but yet Alberta is fighting for the same thing; more autonomy and less interference.
RCMP work for Trudeau.
And now let's get rid of the Federal Police (Justin Casteau's)...
Rcmp get out if here
Heartily pleased to hear this on a few levels, one of them being I’m glad the rcmp are getting passed over. Their performance is mediocre at best, criminal at worst. Now, they’ll either have to stay on their toes, or go publicly corrupt. I thoroughly applaud this.
Get stuffed Nenshi, we have had enough communism in this country .
Nenshi saying more police is lunacy? Bit strange of him to say that don’t you think?
So I should keep an eye out for them.
Sherriffs are old men trained to push pencils .
RCMP is WOKE
Who in their right mind would want to keep the RCMP? Total B.S. !
What could go wrong
RCMP is not a provincial agency. They are a federal agency
Anyone ask why they’re having recruitment issues? How will AB sheriffs not face similar HR issue?
The Alberta sheriffs have been around for years. They were formally CAPS drivers ( court and provincial services)
This police force is nothing new.
Since when has the NDP ever cared about how much something costs?
As someone how lived in rural northern BC. The RCMP (if they even are around) do not have any capability to enforce the law. It is straight up the wild west and I have physically experienced it. City people should have no say in what our communities choose is best for them.
Nenshi is such a clown
Naheed has no connection to rural Alberta. That is the whole point here. His stance here indicates he would be a disaster for Alberta leadership.
The Nenshi worried about costs.😅😅
awesome!!!
Get rid of the RCMP
Financial lunacy was killing downtown businesses with tax hikes and not maintaining infrastructure. The fact that nenshi is still in politics is laughable
I am good with this. Rural communities need targeted support, region or territory based support.
Nenshi looks like he came out of a blender😂
Dont worry, they will not be subject to the laws either.
I think it’s great 👍
BC should do the same
Their just cash collectors! Possibly getting ready for your firearm confiscation? It's not like real criminals are being punished 🤷
Sheriffs literally have zero interest in taking anyones guns away. Relax
Nenshi talking about financial loonacy is pretty darn hypocritical.
Well. Here’s a woman that Walks The Walk. Many of you might not recognize such a human but I’m here to tell you…Danielle Smith will do her very best for AlbertA and it’s citizens. Come one come all and let’s grow grow grow !
Let's go!
Says the person who spent $500,000 on a blue ring with a dual light on top.
Nenshi is such a liar. He has no idea what Albertans want.
Sheriffs, too much little Texas , surprised she does not call herself Governor or President.
Alberta has gozillion of money, no needs for others provinces to pay for them.
Sheriffs have always been here they’re just doing more now. This is not a "start from scratch " police service.
