    We owned an 2007 Aspen Limited 4x4 from new until 2016. Never had a bit of trouble with it. It was one of the nicest vehicles we’ve ever had. Loved the chunky look of it. Rode nice and solid. We had the lighter leather interior that still looked good when we sold it. We are very involved with our son’s family and needed more cargo room when we traveled and the grandkids were getting bigger so we bought a 2016 GMC Yukon XL Denali. Plenty of room now but, we’ll always miss that Aspen. I had a dozen people over the years ask what the car was and several asked that if we ever were ready to sell it to please let them know.

    Most of these in Michigan succumbed to rust. Have it oiled and keep it washed after you fix the tailgate. For some reason all of the generations of the Durango except for the current one have rust problems.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars  2 года назад +2

      Yeah so so many are rusted out that I’ve seen. In the summer I’ll decide if I want to fix a few spots or possibly I could repaint the car. I think there are some design flaws (especially at the bottom of the doors where water pools)

  • @andrewhigdon8346

    Mine was rear wheel drive with the Aisin 6-speed transmission. No power lift gate. And the exhaust tip was round and chrome, not that big goofy thing. Same engine. Same interior but Nav and dual zone climate control. The stereo was supposed to be the finest, but lacked sub-bass, and was compressed unnaturally at full volume,which still wasn’t loud enough. Quite disappointing. Did I mention it handled great, hauled ass, and best brakes ever. Those wheels are steel with plastic cladding.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars  2 года назад +1

      Aspens (and Durangos for that matter) never came with the 6-speed as far as I know, how’d you get that in there? Yeah someone had to have customized that, I like it honestly because the stock Aspen tip is so hidden you can barely see it. Got the dual climate in mine but would have loved the Nav screen + bluetooth. Stereo seems okay but certain songs kind of compress the sound (could be an aux cord issue but I’ve heard there’s a sound limiter when the volume is too loud). It does handle good, loose and responsive at the same time, sometimes feels like a much smaller car. Brakes are great and mine definitely aren’t new either. Wheels are definitely aluminum, I found the build sheet with all options says “20x8.0 Aluminum Chrome Clad Wheels”. Basically it’s a plastic chrome clad piece/cover over the alloy rim, still kinda cheap but you can tell that the rim is a different color and sticks out past that plastic cover thing. There’s a similar designed 18x8” wheel as well (supposed to be alloy again with the cover)?

    The Aspen is definitely an upscale Durango, no wood grain, no analog clock in the dash, no power lift gate, among other extra niceties mine and my wife's '04 dodge doesn't have, lol. for what it's worth and watching your launches, that hemi does make 5k lbs. move pretty briskly and I enjoy that kick I get when I accelerate quickly. Our '04 gets 13-14 mpg mixed. :)
    Do you know if that "direct connect" thing for Mopar is for just new chargers, challengers, etc. or can it be used on older applications that have obd II, like say a Durango/Aspen? Thanks in advance.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the comparison! Some of those features may have been added on later premium trim Durangos (I know the liftgate was). Definitely enjoy the acceleration as well! Not like my Hemi charger but fun in a different way! The direct connection stage kits are only for the most recent vehicles (2015+) and Charger and Challenger only. They do have a full performance parts catalog so some stuff from there might fit on the older vehicles, but mostly we are SOL haha

    • @Kingswood7189
      @Kingswood7189 2 года назад

      @@MarspeedCars you're welcome on the comparo and honestly, having an extra 1k lbs. or so over the charger (my wife and I want one :)) there will be a difference in feel between the 2. It's a bummer that direct connection only works with newer models, given that I like the concept of having authentic Mopar parts that give a stock dodge/Chrysler more power. That said, it's always nice to have aftermarket goodies (unfortunately it mostly only applies to the hemis and srt engines). Keep up the content, man and put on a nice cat-back exhaust on the new rig. :)

I do agree however that it's an absolute gas hog - 12 mpg average in mostly city driving. But then again, it's based on a rugged body on frame design that can tow 8900 lbs with the Hemi. It's too bad they stopped making them.

I used the 4Runner for some light towing but I knew it couldn't do a big job like a boat or RV. I'm a Mopar guy and really wanted to just go all Mopar with my fleet (I also have a 68 Charger and 68 Dart). My daily driver now is a 2000 Camaro SS that I bought way before I had kids, and my wife drives the Pacifica. The Camaro isn't really suitable with all the kids, and I wanted a full size 4x4 suv to fit the kids and tow when needed, but I hated the way the Durango looked after the 2004 redesign. I completely forgot about the Aspen until I saw one a few days ago! They've aged much better than the Durango. I'm hoping to get it within the next few months, just want one with all the bells and whistles.

    I bought the same truck new, with the now-ex-wife, because the Grand Cherokee wasn’t grand enough, apparently. To match my 06’ Magnum RT, both in Brilliant Black Pearl, of course. I don’t care what the haters say, that truck was awesome. Independent Rear Suspension would have sealed the deal, but of course the Hemi made it jump, and every person who ever drove it said it had the best feeling and most powerful brakes ever. Someone got lucky and got ALL the air out of the brake lines, I guess? I still miss that truck. Looked too good actually, too much bling, and I literally had asked the salesman to take those wheels off and put the original classy factory Limited wheels back on. He said those were factory. “Oh, OK……..uhmmmmm…ahhh. So, is there an non-Limited with better wheels?” “It’s a Chrysler, they’re all loaded if it’s the Hemi. Over here is the 4.7 OHC flex-fuel….” “No thank you sir. Hemi only.” Those wheels are black steel wheels with chromed plastic inserts. But 20”. They aged well. I almost plucker a set from LKQ for the Magnum but my senses returned. After hitting my head on a Suburban front diff lock actuator. Aspen was RWD and fun in the wet.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours.

    • @ThisValiantAdventure
      @ThisValiantAdventure 2 года назад

      @@highbird1052 she’s already picked out those Grand Wagoneers as the only suitable replacement for her Aspen, hopefully many, many years down the road. I think the engine swap cost roughly $8k, but that was with a crate engine from Mopar with a 3 year warranty. We could have gotten a different plant locally to cut costs. But we take cross country trips and wanted that warranty in case we’re out of state when an issue presented itself.

  • @ForeverDrivin
    @ForeverDrivin 2 года назад

    Nice video! Glad you got something you wanted, but I have a 2007 Limited as well, and in my own opinion I wouldn't have recommended it. Mines a higher mile model with around 174k miles on it and everything just disintegrates. God, I don't even know where to start on the list of half-assed Chrysler parts that break.
    Side mirror control doesn't work, right side steering wheel buttons came off, the wood trim on the steering wheel cracked, rear windshield wiper came out in a car wash (so it no longer touches the rear window) and you will randomly find it sticking straight up because the motor likes to slowly turn whenever it is even slightly moist or cold. Heat & heated seats don't work in anything below 20 degrees F unless you rev it up when driving, rust loves to form and stain the paint plus the chrome accents love to wrinkle even with proper exterior care. Hood latch broke, need to open with a pair of pliers. Cylinder deactivation stopped working a while ago.
    My only piece of advice is call yourself lucky you didn't get any of the higher end infotainment stuff! It is a known problem that the navigation units love to burn themselves out, as mine did, and replacements are near $1k. However, get yourself a decent aftermarket double din and the Alpine system is fantastic.
    Also, watch yourself when you fill up. Recently, I found myself nearly rear ending multiple people because there is ANOTHER known problem where the electronically controlled evap valves in the gas tank go out and cause the vehicle to stall multiple times when it is full. You can fill up until the gauge reads full but don't let the pump go until it shuts itself off. No real fix either since new parts for these vehicles are nonexistent. Thanks, 2000s bankrupt Chrysler. They know about it on their service bulletins but no dealer will do warranty work on them anymore, even though its a pretty serious flaw. I've sea foamed it a few times since then but still don't have the balls to try. Stopping 5,500 lbs with no power brakes is not fun.
    Also there are recalls for the air bags, but a dealer will still do those for warranty if it isn't already done.
    But hey, its a Mopar! Even as a ford guy I do love a 5.7L in a massive SUV with good towing. It has its uses that serve me in my specific situation. I'd straight pipe it but its nice to not *always* listen to V8 drone, I get enough of that with my own project.
    I always thought the front end looked like a sad dog lmao.

    For your History, Major Flaws, and Why It Got Canceled playlist, do you want to make a video about the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan? They used to be Chrysler's minivans. I like the Pacifica a lot better than either of those because it is more spacious, it has better safety ratings, it is more fuel efficient, and it probably drives better. Do you want to make a video about each one? I will not put my contact information in the comments, but I do follow you on Instagram. I also wrote a comment suggesting the Town & Country and Grand Caravan for that playlist, but I never got a reply. I do like the Chrysler Aspen better than the Dodge Durango from those days, but the Durango was better known. My first choice for a car for myself would be the Subaru Ascent, but that is just me. Honestly, I wonder if I am the Subaru version of you sometimes. My dad has a Subaru Forester, and he was happy with that car right from the start. However, there were Subaru vehicles like the Baja, Tribeca, and WRX hatchback did have a lot of flaws that led to them being canceled though.
