    The build started out a few bucks here and there from craigslist and junkyards, and then just a few episodes later we're spending thousands on brand new parts. So much for budget build.

    at least they didn't put budget in the title when they started adding 2000 dollar ecu. still good series and very helpful

  • @ramairgto72
    @ramairgto72 8 лет назад +12

    It's a great build, thats for sure.
    Want to say that most of the cost of this build this is stuff you don't need.
    You don't need that Hi Ram intake, the injectors, TB and new pumps, thats around 5G right here.
    Run a Vette regulator, run a Painless EFI harness with a factory reflash. You can even find some dirt cheap VATS kits for your factory harness.
    As well, you don't need a PS cooler for city driving, use the factory set up and upgrade your build over time. The cast exhaust manifolds are fine, you might have to find some OEM truck ones for the A body tho. The oil pan you need to change.
    I'm sure Chuck knows how crazy this build is, just use some "reality" on your build.

    Evidently MY budget build and THIS guys budget build is in ENTIRELY different ballparks!! The only thing 'budget' here is the $100 frame he started with.

      locomojo0485 what was your budget for your ls swap? is there any videos or pictures of it? im curious, I need to see a real budget swap haha

      I have 10K in mine. The list is endless if you want quality. Fuel tank, rad, mounts, headers, dash, control modules, cam, springs, lifters etc.The good thing is the end result. If you have the guts to stand on it, it will scare the shit out of you. They are bullet proof.

    • @locomojo0485
      @locomojo0485 8 лет назад +1

      Find a Chevy truck that got rearended or rolled that didn't get a smashed front. Buy it for $1000-2000 on Craigslist. Set it beside your project, swap all the parts over you need. Sell and scrap what remains. THAT'S how you do a budget build. I lost interest in my 76 Lemans project. Had got a 5.3 LS motor for $450 from local junk yard. Sold it all. Have a Fiero GT now, And LS will fit, but that's alot of work, lol. Just looking to upgrade to the 3.8 supercharged or similar, those fit in alot easier.

      +locomojo0485 Hey locomojo, I have heard a Cadillac V8 will fit with the automatic. Saw one on Craigslist some months ago.

    • @locomojo0485
      @locomojo0485 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah I heard that. but then those Cadillac motors aren't exactly known for reliability. I see numerous 90s cadillacs in the junk yard that are never wrecked. That's not a good sign.

      Because it matters and they got the wrong MAP sensor. If you get the LS3 harness for the 58 tooth reluctor, it'll have the right connector. Best option is to get an LS1/LM7 MAP and be done with it.

    I noticed that '76 S3 laguna in the back ground, i used to own one back in the early 2000s, bought it as a rolling chassis for $500, almost perfect condition and everything was intact, sky blue with the factory white racing stripes.... great series by the way, i watched all eight videos.

    I could watch Chuck's video's all day. We all know this build is a little over the top, which is fine. I think the expensive product endorsement stuff was actually pretty cool. Isn't that what we'd all like to do? It'd take me a little more than 8 months to save the cash along the way, so even that is pretty good.

    I'm new to your channel, ran into this project and just binge watched all 8 videos (non-stop). I don't even own a GM but I am amazed how everything was pretty much plug n play. Actually you made it look a lot easier than it really was I'm sure, but very intriguing and educational... It seemed a lot more than just an engine swap. Pretty much building a car. And by the way, The Chevelle is my dream "American Muscle" car. Thank you for sharing.

    Great series. Great information. Thank you very much. L.A. asked which is better, carb or F.I.. I love F.I. because of the even fuel flow and no bowl sloshing. (I've run the big carb's and they will flood a engine in a heart beat) There is certainly a lot more to these new engines then meets the eye, and I was amazed, but you really showed what all goes into something like this that I never knew. Thanks again Chuck.

    I converted to hydroboost on a budget. 20 for a swap meet hydroboost 30 for a corvette master 30 for a cooler and made my pressure lines. Cost around 120 that's getting it done on a budget. A budget LS swap would get done with the wiring and ECU from the doner truck. I can see buying manifolds mounts etc.

    Careful! Always hook up and tighten the positive terminal before hooking up the negative terminal. If both are connected (like @ 2:20) and the wrench you are using to tighten the positive terminal hits surrounding metal, you'll get fireworks. Ask me how I know... :) Common sense would also say reverse this for removing terminals.

      he also used 10 gauge wire for the charge wire, thats not safe at all. that alternator produces 120+ amps and it will toast that small wire in a few minutes if not seconds. all newer cars use 4 gauge wire from alternator to battery for that same reason. once everything is wired he will strain that 10 gauge wire

    There are a lot of people on this comment line questioning the claim of low budget in the title.your wise beyond your years.for the most part, every time you hear Chuck say that he is hooking something up " because of things that will be added on later" in order to get more horsepower, he is stepping away from the low budget claim.as well, every time you hear him laugh while putting something together,..it won't go together as nice as he says.did you notice that he had to go bad and change the one pan,..even though people in this comment section warned him that his first oil pan wouldn't work.( my keyboard won't give me a question mark)Do not use this series of videos to believe you are ready to install an LS engine in an older car or truck.Have a pro on hand, ( do not take a basket case to a pro after you have already tried this swap.Chuck is an honest man, ( if you know what to look for) but he is still a company man.Look at the lower right hand of your screen and you'll notice a Holley sign.This is to let you know who sponsored this videos, and like all other companies in this country,..they will try to confuse you in order to take you to the cleaners.Am I a friend of ChucksNo, I'm a therapist that just finished this same swap,.. and did it at around three grand.Because I didn't add on all the extra equipment.

      David Griffiths well it’s their budget lol..... or the shows budget...... I mean anyone can afford to get what these guys use, just takes us regular guys some extra time and work to save up the cash for those parts, if you really want them...... I never thought I would ever have the collection of cars that I have..... but saved my money, looked around, and when a deal came up I picked up a car....now I have a 68 chevelle Malibu, a 64 impala SS, and a 1969 Camaro Z28........ and slowly buying all the parts for each car for the way they will be built...... chevelle is up first and I have all the interior put away, all the suspension from hotchkis put away, just need to get their new coilovers, I’m saving up for them, have a moser rear end and wilwood brakes..... tremec tko600 is on the way, and doing a lot of side work and saving the cash for the LSX454 motor I want...... and saving a shit load of money cause I’m doing all the work myself..... so that saves me on countless labor hours....... but then after the chevelle the Camaro will be built, then the impala.......good thing I have always been into cars, and had some really good teachers, and took classes, and other things I just learned by doing....... so see what happens as life goes forward... like to add a few more rides to the collection, like a 66 nova SS, 67 Camaro SS, 67-68 c10 pickup....and really really want a 63 corvette or 67 corvette..... or a 32 Ford 5-window...... so just have to keep working and saving my money.... and keep hustling on side jobs

    I'm doing a 67 Camaro. I get about 400 hp out of an old 350 that I think I spent about $2500 total to rebuild. I have no doubt the LS is great, but the added complexity of ecu and brackets etc. makes it a nightmare. I appreciate this series a lot, but I like to enjoy driving my car, not screwing with a million clearance issues.

    I thought the wrench on the battery was close to the terminals early in this video it got even closer to shorting them later!

      The cheapest way to LS swap is with a carb and MSD 6LS. For EFI get stock harness mod with a factory ECU, then you get to learn HP Tuners. I've done all three including this Holley. Holley HP is worth every penny on the back end IMO.

    I'm curious if/how much the tunnel needs to be cut? anyone have experience with the hooker eng mounts and the 4L60e or better yet the 4L80e .....thanks in advance.

    Im trying to find this setup as a whole kit for an LS motor, but all i can find is individual pieces to it. Does anyone have a linmk to a vendor that sell the whole setup (intake, fuel rails, injectors, wiring harness and ecu altogether)?

    Why did you choose a ls1 350ci 5.7L on the ecu when its a Lc9 327ci 5.3L just wondering?

      There are only a few base maps to choose from. The exact cubic inch won't matter a whole lot, plus you can go in a change it. First thing I did with mine was change 350 to 347 (LS1 actual cubic inch at .005 over.

    long time since the last video.
    also, I would avoid putting the aluminum intake right by the radiator fans.

    Am I missing something here??? Why is he saying he has to fill the coolant separately, once through the radiator and then again fill it through the top radiator house. He says coolant will not get behind the thermostat but the way he filled it would be exactly the same thing if the top radiator house was connected and just filled through the radiator because once the radiator gets filled with coolant them the coolant will travel through the upper radiator house and go to the rest of the system until the whole engine is full of coolant

      Fix it Fast the coolant was water, am I the only one that noticed 😂

    Is it possible for you to do a video using the original wire harness that comes with the LS4 motor how to visually every step please

      Sorry but we designed our ECUs and harnesses to replace the stock pieces. There are plenty of people/companies on the internet that have and can provide you with that info you need to reuse the stock pieces. thx J
