The thing was, it was all physics based. So if you take the slightest wrong turn, or the opponent barely bumps you at the wrong time, you’re likely to be sent flying and tumbling off the track. It was crazy frustrating at times.
The last Hot Wheels racer I played was on the N64, back then you had to find new cars in hidden areas on the tracks. Why don't they do that anymore? The sense of reward when you finally found and unlocked a special car was amazing! (Finding out next time playing that the save-thingy didn't work again sucked massively though 😂)
I bought the first one to play with my nephew, we really enjoyed it, especially considering I was playing it when he wasn’t here. I had a massive gripe with the way they pushed dlc vehicles. I picked it up on sale for about £8, every time we went to buy new cars the dlc was front and centre. I ended up buying Batman themed vehicles, the mystery machine and others. They kept pushing it, and as not to disappoint my nephew I bought them. Don’t remember the exact amount but I’m convinced I spent £15+ on dlc. Hopefully this one isn’t the same, I might check it out on a sale.
The first one was a really good Switch version. Good resolution in handheld, and I barely noticed downgrades on graphics apart from the cars don't get scratched as they do in PS/Xbox. Is it the same with this game? It's not clear for me after watching the review. I don't mind downgrades on graphics but I don't want a blurry resolution. Thanks for reviewing Switch games!
Guys, can you add AI bots in multiplayer matches? And can you add bots in custom-made tracks? These are the most prevalent questions everyone wants to know, it's a deal breaker since first game. Yet NO review talks about this! Please let us now.
I gotta admit that to me the lack of analogue triggers on switch controllers makes basically any other platform better for racing games. That being said I can much easier forget it in a game like this than, say, a game like Burnout Paradise or WRC. Only having gradual control on the side to side action and not on the back/forward motion is a major deal.
Great review! What is the rubber banding like this time out? It was brutal in the first game and really added frustration for me! It looks like a good "single A" game maybe?
I have switch and xbox and first one on both consoles thanks to XGP and hard to justify this title for switch if you can get it on different console or pc. Portability is a nice add on but there is plenty of better working/looking racing games that are much better value for switch. If switch is your only console go for it if not it will be much better and more responsive on other platform.
How do you make a track and how do you get your car back on the track after he has fallen off? It says respawn but then is stuck off the track driving around under it. HELP

Love a good racing game but usually it’s a ‘real’ racing game. As a male kid, of course I loved Hot Wheels & had imaginary races in my mind of the environments around me, this seems to fit that memory. I think perhaps I’d purchase the original in a sale 😊
I love when SwitchUp puts text on the screen and blurs the game play video in the background. It’s like trying to drive in a rainstorm, with no windshield wipers. Instant headache. Anyway, other than that good review the game looks ok.

And, with accessibility options it looks brilliant. *But* looking at the length and cost and overall content locked behind an Activision-esque level of cynical DLC paywall, I’m put off at paying £45 for half a game? Content abuse or am I just getting old? I’m thinking I should buy Mario Kart 8 digitally because I gave my cart to my nephew. But I think for me, these type of kart racers are perfect gaming aperitifs. I have NSO+ so I get the one dlc pack that has more content than everything still to come on HW2 and it’s mine instantly. Your thoughts please I can’t afford both and value your opinion. HW2 looks like it will play havoc with my adhd and I’ll end buying everything before I realise I have you know?
I am very sceptical with how devs approaching these games. The previous was a filled with dlcs and loot boxes, premium currencies and paid events (I think). A second one that soon with very minor changes just raises more flags tbh.
It had season passes for gaining new tracks and cars, but it also had tons of free car dlcs, and all the loot boxes were bought ONLY with in-game money you earned for races. The only stuff you would pay for were the season passes (if you wanted the thematical sets like the DC Villains or WB Cartoons) and the occasional licensed car pack (like the Mutant Ninja Turtles or the Street Fighter cars).
I know this is months late but I just got this today. As the other comment said it’s all in game currency. The dlcs you buy the season passes (I seen two) or they have the packs individual if there’s packs you may not want. The other difference I noticed is going to the shop doesn’t throw the dlc in your face like the first game did (or maybe it did when the game launched but doesn’t for me) the dlc cars are just in the list with a dlc or download when looking at it.
I wish they would have upgraded the first HotWheels Unleashed instead of straight up releasing another version that looks sooo close to the other, with some gimmicks like the jump. :( I won't spend 50€ for the few it provides compared to the first one.
Cool. I was using my cash to buy Mario Wondernuts tomorrow but I'm a gamer, so have 0% patience. I was looking forward to this sequel after 2 days of bladdering the original. It was difficult to begin with and I'm no racer pro, so it's possible. When I look at the time I spent playing it and the fun I had with my 3yo boy and 6yo girl it's an easy buy. Love these games that are a 7 or 8, if you're into them it elevates them 😊
I Really Enjoyed the last one i got the GOTY for $15 on a sale ...until playing this game i always had my Oled switch in Vivid Mode ....for around a year.. but it just looked crazy over saturated ..so i put it back on default mode & have never gone back to vivid ..i did not realize how much detail you lose in Vivid mode ... ... i have high hopes for this one ...hope its not a Vaseline screen of blur... Can You Change View In HW2 >? that was the one thing i didn't like about HW1 ...!

So its 60 fps now? 8:40 I know the game is a solide 30 fps. But doesn't look like you get more than 30 fps anyway when choosing the setting. Or am I wrong?
Is driving model/handling as bad as in the first one? I swear to god, the handling makes the first one impossible to enjoy - Hotshot Racing is very similar but does it a lot better
I will buy and play this Hot wheels unleashed 2 on my Ps5 but this looks surprisilly good on Nintendo Switch too. Hot wheel toys was my favourite when in my childhood when I was a kid. 🌍🏙🌁🛣🛞🏍🚘🔥
I just feel that after having played other racing games on the Steamdeck running at a solid 60fps, going back to a Switch ver of this game (as well as other 30fps Switch games) which runs at 30fps (an unsteady 30fps at that) is just too much of a difference & downgrade to deal with.
The problem is I can't even get the online working at all. It keep prompt me an error have occurred. I believed it could be because of the game region. Mine is Asia version :(

Def wasn't you Game was tough
I didn’t have trouble with the races but the time trials were really hard. I couldn’t beat the unleashed times unless I used several short cuts.
Glad it includes a bit of driftin’. The graphics looked polished and love the light reflections on the tracks. The track builder sounds loads of fun.

Personally i hate it when games use the triggers for acceleration.

Hot Wheels and Rocket League need a big collab, the games are so similar in vibe and driving mechanics.

I'll pass on this as not interested in paying $60 for then a bunch of extra priced DLCs to come out. Probably has microtransactions in it as well.
This will be a keeper in a few years when you get it all on sale for under $15 with all the DLC.

These new Hot Wheels games just look a bit too fast and a bit too messy for my taste.
I wouldn't recommend to buy it, it's worse than the first one and online multiplayer is less active.
