- A vise is a GREAT addition to any shop but sometimes a steel plate is too much, so we made some magnetic jaws so we can have brass, wood, plastic, leather and felt jaws instead. Thanks to Matterhackers for sponsoring this video! www.matterhackers.com?aff=7355

@@coolperson9482 I have no idea
I didn't realize how many sentient tools you guys have. Eyes everywhere!
I hope they don't rise up against us...
Run while you still can
I'm surprised you don't have T-Shirts with googly eyes.
good to see you getting to grips with your vices finally.
bahaha! Now that's a pun that we should have thought of for the intro!
Great editing on this one! Now I know the meaning of 'paws' for effect 😹
That's a clawlity pun right there good sir!
Clickbait thumbnail! I was expecting three armed katelyn! 😂
I usually keep the third arm tucked away as to not alarm the public ;P
@@EvanAndKatelyn - We totally accept you, third arm and all. Don't ever get down on yourself - that's what we are here for. Also, good thing E has all those extra fingers to go clamping in vices. Will he ever play the violin again? I think you should Barge up one more set: cat skin. (Okay - FAUX cat skin, let's be clear on that).
Does anyone else just have a big grin on their face all the way through E+V's videos? Great vid as always guys 👍
Aw thank you!!
I just found the channel and am binging, so, yes!
V?
I'm literally a massive nerd who hasn't stepped near a saw or clamps or anything shown on this channel in my life. I literally have no idea why i'm binge watching these videos or why i've subscribed to this channel...but here i am. Why are you both so entertaining???????
Hey that's a huge compliment! And it's probably kinda like how I'm never gonna make gourmet kitkats from scratch but dangit I'm watching every one of Claire's videos on the Bon Appetit channel 😂😂
@@EvanAndKatelyn and here i am as a person who does both! 😊
Thanks MatterHackers for sponsoring us! Check em out here: www.matterhackers.com?aff=7355
They helped us come to GRIPS with our VICES (Thank you @Alan Greenman for the pun! 😂).
Now you need to make a shelf to hold them. (Next video)
why is vice spelt with an s in the title and thumbnail I'm confused
You switched countersink with chamfer
@@mrbean2691 we do! maybe that we can mount under the workbench or something
@@JTCubing916 that's actually how you spell it when you're talking about this type of vise (as opposed to vice, which is like a failing or weakness). I do keep having to correct myself though because it seems like it should be spelled with a C!
I love this idea! I use a combination of blue shop towels and tape when I use my vise...this seems like a much better solution! Amazing concepts and troubleshooting throughout the process as always!!!
We feel ya, it was similar with us and our taped on popsicle sticks! Glad you enjoyed the process 😁😁
Love your guys humor and frivolity! Keep it up!!!
I say one of each set of jaws! I always like to use the toughest vice jaws I can. I select out one that is the next softest from what I am clamping as I usually find that gives the best results.
Thanks! That's what we like to do too, get the jaw that's just a littttle softer than what's being clamped :)
You guys are awesome as always. That tough PLA stuff sounds cool, thanks for the heads up. Also, great idea for a shop upgrade this video. You two are killing it!
Thank you! Oh man that touch PLA was more impressive than expected with the ease of sanding benefit!

you know me so well 😉🤣
Maybe that's why they got "distracted"...
Editing is great! The glasses make you even more fun to watch. Smiles watching you.
Thank you!
Chins of Concentration 1:35! My favorite part is 13:11. That's really cool all of the different combinations and what all can be held with the different attachments.
Haha! Sometimes I need more concentration in my life and the chins come back with a vengeance. Lol, I'm sure 13:11 is Evan's favorite part too ;P
That upload picture is phenomenal! I had to stare at it for longer than I want to admit to notice why it looked funny! Oh so clever. Anyways I appreciate what you're doing, have a good day!
Haha thank you! We channeled our inner Paul Jackman a bit with that one. Thank you!
Just getting back through your backlog since January. Great project! My friend owns the company that makes the Matterhackers tough PLA. I use to work there and can say that it is a great product!
Thanks Zach! Ah that's awesome to hear about the PLA, we think so too!
Ugh, need a CNC so useful. This video was super dope! Great idea
it's one of those things that once you have it, you use it all the time for stuff like this! Thanks!
“What if you have two of the same shirts?” ... “yeh”
“Dramatic chipmunk HEY” 😂
I love Katelyn’s reaction of just randomly turning the camera around on herself hahah
hahaha! and always at the most flattering angles ;P
I recycled an old nylon cutting board for my soft jaws on my vice. it looks a bit janky but works super well.
What little things of awesomeness! Great job guys
Thank you!
You two are so goofy yet enjoyable. Thanks for the ideas.
Thank you!
I LOVE the idea of being able to make shop solutions with 3d printing. I've seen them used for making dust collection accessories.
Ooo yeah we've done some hose adapters! 3D printing is so handy for shop stuff ruclips.net/video/b-8ZF1DM4_E/видео.html
Awesome vise jaws guys. I need to make some of thesis for my 6 inch vise. Very Cool !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
I hope this episode is jaw dropping!
haha! we should have thought of that one... :P
And I thought I was slick putting magnets on my removable rubber jaws.... (sigh) now I have to get a 3D printer, some felt, brass, some wood....oh wait, I have wood... some chewing gum.. a banana ... wait, what were we doing again?
banana vise grips!
Your videos are a pleasure to watch!
thanks!
Gripping content Y'all! 😃👍🏻👍🏻 Awesome work E&K! 👊🏻👊🏻
ahaha! that's a good one! Thanks Fred :)
Awesome video guys! I find I use the top of the vice a lot as a reference surface to cut and file against, so it would be really great if you made them all the same height & this would also give you a more secure grip, for example with the really thin rod!
That's a good tip!
I really like the irregular ☺️ More interesting video than one would think too - about vice jaws 😁
thanks! we try to keep things pretty goofy around here ;P
You guys are such an inspiration!! We want to start something similar too.
Thank you so much!
Using tools to create improvements for your other tools!! LOVE IT!
Haha yes! Thank you!

you definitely should make some! Thanks!
So cool and genius!

LOVE THIS!!!! I'm gonna make some of my own!!!!
Thank you! You definitely should!
( 1:45 ) ... hammering magnets reduces or even kills their magnetismnessness. Another great video this is
Love your videos
Thank you!
Evanandkatelyn thank you for such a good idea, when I have access to my tools again I’ll have to try my take on this.😊 Can’t wait for more content
Thank you! Good luck tackling this one 😁💪

Sweet multi jaws!
Thanks!
Hi guys
How are you?
Well, I don´t have words for your projects all them are amazing and useful too.
So now all time when I watch your videos are very funny hahaha your way hahaha.
Congratulations by channel from Brazil.
Hey Allan! We're good, how are you? Glad you like the video! Thanks as always for watching and commenting :)
Great idea, I need to make a set of these!
Thanks!!
Cooking, some questionable humour, the su-purr-visor and gratuitous shots of your main vice. This one really had it all. 10/10, will watch again.
Hahaha! Thank you thank you, you know had to outdo ourselves after our last video was about cats and tape
Loved the obscure Diresta reference :-).
👋😸👋
Hey great video! U can fix that warping on the 3d print by turning the printer bed on and usun 55C or so
Thanks!
Would it help to have "wings" that extend behind and around the jaws that prevent the jaw inserts from sliding side to side? And are the files available somewhere?
the magnets are pretty strong but if we notice things shifting, we'll keep that idea in mind! And yep the files are here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:3365110
Why did the biscuit cry? It’s mum had been a wafer so long 😂 (maybe that doesn’t translate to American English)
I get it! I had to say it out loud bc I didn't at first haha
It absolutely does translate and it’s amazing
translates perfectly. lol!
Wow, you have really given me some great ideas! Sadly, I have no 3D printer, I’ll have to use wood. For the irregular jaws, I think I’ll try drilling a piece with different sized Forstner bits and resawing it in half.
Wood should work well too! good luck :)
You could get some spray-on rubber or silicon for the irregular attachment for extra grip!
For sure!!
Any force unbalance to the top could warp the plastic or make what you are clamping loose. Instead of the magnets being on the top have you considered putting then on the sides so that the top is flush with the top of the vice?
Oooh that's a great idea! Maybe for version 2! It would need to be a little more precise but could be worth it
Sweet! Now I just need to upgrade from my great grandads small hobby vice to an actual large vice :D
It is nice having a big beefy one!
Possibly the best RUclips thumbnail ever.
Haha! Thank you
I had some parts that could use annealing, I baked them at 150 degrees for 30 minutes and ruined over a weeks worth of prints, so thanks for the tip. I will just make them thicker the second time so I won't have to ruin them in the oven.
Tip to get cleaner countersink holes with those bits is to drill you counter sink first then drill the through hole through the material. It gets rid of the chatter you get when countersinking a whole after you drill it!
Thanks for the tip!
Oh yeah love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Great stuff! You don't need no #ad-vice from no one!
haha! thank you!
You guys are so damned happy all the time.. you should make a videochannel.. ;)
Soft jaws are amazing tho, I love them on the milling machine. Use aluminium and you can make holding custom shaped parts (rounded, or odd shaped (as in not straight)) way easier and safer. Mill the countour of your part into the jaws and you're good to go. Or 3d print it into the design, ofcourse.
BTW, did you think of making really big jaws, that you can heat and put a cheese sandwich in there? I mean.. you need food, right? Hell if you're not, I might just even do it myself. For science of course.
For us the 3D printer was cheaper materials-wise (and our CNC's, while they can technically carve aluminum, aren't optimized for it). I want a grilled cheese sandwich right MEOW! For science!
@@EvanAndKatelyn ah, excellent! Can't wait for more of you guys' videos! Having a 3d printer looks like a whole lotta fun!
For the ultimate (IMHO) cheese sandwich, in this order:
Slice of bread
Cheese
Ham
Chopped onions
Salami
Dab of ketchup
Cheese
Slice of bread
To be served with a smile :)
now that's a tasty sounding sandwich! Would need some really good jaws to keep all those ingredients in place 😋
Omg your almost a 1 million subscribers
10:39 Looks like Evan's going for a vice ride.
When ever I needed soft jaws on a bench vice i took some 1/8 to 1/4 inch soft metal and after clamping in the vice it was hammered over the top to hold it in place when open
That works too! We just wanted something we could quickly swap out and be able to do other soft Jaws materials as well
I hope you know you can also, on most vices you can flip the steel jaws over to use the smooth side to help.
Yeah, it just usually requires unscrewing and rescrewing which was too much of a hassle for us to want to bother, so the magnet system works better for us
You might not want to bake food in that oven again ^^ Lends itself to polymer clay and the like though; and of course more prints.
The sliding jaws stop motion montage was super sweet and so smooth, I liked it a lot!
Haha yeah, need to Google if we can eat from it after all that. Glad you liked the stop motion!
@@EvanAndKatelyn I know that stop motion is quite involved, but at the same time, nothing looks quite like it. I alwasy think of Frank Howard, stuff like this: ruclips.net/video/cQX75U5jy0E/видео.html
That of course is his own style that fits his channel, but it just looks so nice >.>
Amazing
Thanks!
Awesome Job!
You guys may want to build an enclosure for your 3D printer and add an air filtration to it...this not because of if the filament is toxic, but the particles they do give off. If you experience any headaches when 3D printing, that is from the particles.
haven't experienced any headaches, but with PLA it's not really an issue
I would 100% buy this if the 3d print material has been proved to be sturdy.
I love your channel
thank you!
@@EvanAndKatelyn do you guys have a place to send fan mail/cool things
Love how nerdy you are . the legend of Zelda sounds love it!
haha, thank you!
I know the sanding flattened out those parts but I think you may have a bit more accuracy (especially for the screw hole locations) if you baked the tough PLA on top of a piece of bar stock that you know for sure was perfectly flat. The tray that it was baked on didn't look flat and probably distorted the PLA when it got soft in the heat.
OOh that might work pretty well!!
Just found ya. Great job.
That's a great looking vice, I've got a super duper mini one from Harbor Freight and the grips are just not that good. I'll have to try some thing like this out!
oooo would love to see these in super duper mini form!
Nice vid
Thanks!
Katelyn's eyes when she smiles...they become so small!!
I wish I had a vice and a CNC and a 3d Pinter to make custom clamps for ^^
I so badly want a thin wafer now, aside from that you guys are so crafty!
Haha! you can make your own wafer on a CNC! :P thank you!
Jaw droppingly good stuff..
Thank you!
I see what you did there... ;-)
What kind of felt is that? Have you tried making vice jaws from ceramic fibre or board? I've been wondering how to make vise jaws for brazing with a really heat-resistant insulating material.
Y’all are adorable
This is such a cool idea! What do you use the brass grips for, though?
E&K videos: One of my new favorite vices.
Hey, could I ask? Is this the first time working with annealed PLA?
In general, how does Matterhacker's Tough PLA compare to generic standard PLA?
Haha! Yep this is our first time working with annealed PLA. The most immediate difference we've seen is that it sands a lot better but we haven't pitted them against each other for a stress test
This video has me so inspired!
To eat Nutty Bars!
Hahaha! Yummm
Thanks for this informative and fun video! The link for the magnets is no longer working. Can you please tell me the size of the magnets that work best. Hopefully I can find them some place. :)
i love it when yall have non royalty free music lol hall of the mountain king gets so old
I like that you guys put eyeballs on your machines
👁️👅👁️
I love how there's googly eyes on everything xD
Haha thank you! Googly eyes are addicting
Nice project even the superVIS(E)or approves!
haha!! nice one!
What would the brass be good for? Is it softer than the metal stock clamps?
2:15 Leather and foam that we won't to be able to screw through.
Oooookay... (backing away slowly)
OMG! They made something practical! (for makers, at least)
This is awesome but I feel I would forget to use them when I needed them.
"Uhd-vice" and I thought Alec Steele had bad jokes. LOL
hahaha. we're really just competing to see who's got the most dad joke skills :P
I am vise envious.
My OCD really wants you to build some work benches so you can properly mount your bench top tools (belt sander, vice etc.) ;)
Haha! We only have room for our main workbench right now but we don't use those tools often enough for them to be permanently taking up space. Maybe one day we can re-organize things...
