      Methinks you have watched Kung Pow a little tooooo often - sweet susie. Such a funny film. I watched it with my son and we were both in floods of tears. Thanks for the reminder - must watch again.. Oh yeah, enjoyed your video too. Evan remembers the high heat material after all the moulds are done. Kinda like the old topic ad (if you ever had topic bars over yonder) "Oh yeah, it's funny how you always remember right at the end". Topic, a hazlenut in every bite. Oh god. It's 3:30 am. I'm ranting. I'm tired. Good night ... sweet susie. I'm gonna be dreaming of kung pow now. Cheers (Heads off upstairs giggling)

    You could try adding the dry concrete as an additive to the resin, so it doesn't have to cure also. That way, it is like a resin pour that can mix better because the water won't be repelling the resin.

    That mold maker is awesome! I could really use it right now lol...
    I'm kinda surprised that only one gem broke with mixing the resin and concrete(I don't know the cure time for the concrete). Because, the concrete was mixed with water and resin and water don't usually play well with each other.
    That may be the reason why K's half resin and half concrete broke. Since the resin was cured before the concrete didn't have much of anything to adhere with.
    I think if you were to take a low grit of sandpaper to the first layer, the concrete would have an easier time bonding together.
    Great video as always!!!-

      EvanAndKatelyn you should try it with wood, aluminum honeycomb, shredded money, steel and copper shavings, and so much more.
      The one thing that was really surprising to me was that it didn't look like you had any bubbles!!! How fast does the concrete set? That may be the reason why the two interacted good together.

    Can you please try cold molding? In case you dont know: mixing a metal power (like Iron powder) in a 1to1 ratio to resin and cast it. I think a rusted Coldmolded object would work GREAT with Concrete. I hope you like this Idea! Keep on with your nice work :)

      Cold casting is as far as I know, coating the inside of the mold with metal powder and then pour the resin in. Black resin is a good base and you can additionally mix in some metal powder. But you need fine metal powders to prevent sinking.

    • @extreamemineing

    Do this gain, but instead of filling it with resin and concrete fill it with soaps! Crystal shaped soaps are so cool!

  • @andy-in-indy
    @andy-in-indy 6 лет назад

    Smoothon makes a concrete mold release called Aquacon that will not discolor your concrete, but most people use dish soap (spay on a diluted solution and let it dry) or vegetable oil as a concrete mold release. I have not mixed those mold release agents with resin but the soap works with epoxy.
    The biggest reason you are having trouble with the molds, though, is that you have a rigid material in a rigid mold. You need a way to let air flow around and under the part to get it to release, otherwise the air pressure outside is fighting the vacuum you are creating inside. That is why shallow piece can be popped out but the deeper pieces hard harder (more surface area = more force).

    • @EvanAndKatelyn

      Ahh those are some great tips!! Going to start a document where we can write some of these down for next time with some of the hard learned lessons we've made lol.

      @@EvanAndKatelyn Bill Doran knows a lot about molding - talk to him about how to make your molds in ways that come apart with minimal clean up (e.g. split the potato and make a two part mold sol that each side is not as deep)

  • @Zogg1281
    @Zogg1281 6 лет назад

    I've never thought of mixing concrete with resin before....... interesting.
    Something I've seen in the past would probably help where the mold pulled off some of the concrete. If you mix up some clear resin, you can paint over the finished product to make it smooth again.
    A couple of ideas I would love to see you try:-
    - Instead of mixing the concrete with water, to start with, mix it up using clear resin
    - A mould in a mould..... make a mould, cover it with foam board (or similar), then do a mould over that. When you've seperated everything you can the do an outer layer pour with the 2 moulds together, then remove the inside mould and fill it in a second pour.......... it might work lol

    what if you coated the mold in concrete and then tipped the extra out so it was just a thin layer of concrete (might have to mix the concrete a bit thin idk how that would work but I am spitballing here lol) and then filled it in with geode colours of resin like how a geode has the normal looking rock on the outside and the pretty colours on the inside?
    I know you two love your geodes so it would be cool to see!

    For preventing the molds from melting, you could sit them in a cup of water so that the water absorbs the excess heat. I don't know if that would mess with the resin curing process, though.
    Then call Linus Tech Tips and tell him you've water cooled your concrete potato resin.
