  • This video is about Sailing San Francisco and the World Off the Starboard Hull Ep 22 Lagoon 400 S2 Catamaran.
    Off the Starboard Hull is a series of videos about a Canadian couple from Parksville, Vancouver Island who left July 21, 2016 to sail around the world. We want to take our time, so the trip will last about 10 years with a flexible itinerary.
    Before we untied the lines, the first 18 videos were about exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest and outfitting out Lagoon 400S2, Muskoka, for our offshore adventures. This is the fourth video about our actual world wide travel adventure - yay! Please feel free to ask any questions or give us advise in our comment section. We will try our best to answer each and every comment. Also, like or subscribe - we look forward to sharing all the excitement with you!
    We are presently in Monterey and our next video will cover the pelicans and beaches of Half Moon Bay, the rollercoaster and boardwalk of Santa Cruz and diving and sea otters in Monterey.
    Scott and Laurie

    Hey you two! Great video! Loved the take on San Fran. Also enjoyed the "He Said:She Said" take on what you've seen.
    Folding props! nice. Love your helm enclosure too! That's a sure sign of a PNW Sailboat. Lol. Glad both boats aren't sailing back there this Fall, what a mess! Sorry B.C. : ( miss you a little despite it though...
    ttys Scott : )
    Cheers,
    Brad

      Hi Brad
      Glad you enjoyed the video of the Bay Area. We seem to rarely have different perspectives on where we travel but our take on San Fran was clearly different.
      We are actually using our helm enclosure at times in Mexico on the windier or cooler nights.
      Yes, we miss the people in BC, but not the weather, especially this winter - wow!
      Cheers,
      Laurie and Scott

    I have been to San Fransisco a couple of times. Pretty city and great diversity. Two things i remember about the city is the amazing sour dough bread and the smell of piss. lol Even in 1988 it smelt like piss. Some things never change. Excellent video and thanks for sharing, Two thumbs up.

    Thank you for sailing into anchorage. None of the other vlogs I follow have done that, and I was worried that it couldn't or shouldn't be done.

      Yes, it is definitely doable - hope you do it, it is such a lovely spot so close to downtown San Fran

    glad you enjoyed the SF bay area where I live. Every time I go under the golden bay bridge in a boat it reminds me of my navy ship. We were home ported in Alameda. The weather when you were here was very nice which is not typical usually the coast its always windy and cold.
    under the golden bridge on the south tower is a good place to go fishing for striped bass..fairwinds

    Glad you are enjoying your time down where it's warmer. Our weather here is getting to be more of the rain type...and no more of that real humid heat. I was in Parksville for the Earthquake Exercise in Port Alberni. If I had of know about Muskoka. I would have like to have met you both. Keep your eyes peeled for Saltair 3 (a Cat). They are making there way to Trinidad, if they pop thru the Panama heading back to the Pacific you may see them as they are from Vancouver Island as well

      We are in contact with Krista of Trio Travels (the Saltair 3 you mentioned, we think) and hope to meet up with them when they are on this side of the continent.
      Thanks for keeping track of us travellers.

    Did I see a dingy towing Laurie in a Kayak off Santa Cruz island Friday morning 10-07-16? We were anchored at Fry's in a Catalina 50 and I thought she and male in dinghy looked mighty familiar. Peace to you both.

    Thanks for sharing, Scott and Laurie, very informational as usual! When you were replacing zincs, it looked like you have a folding prop. Was it a flexofold or some other similar type, and are you pleased with it? Also, on a previous video it looked like you had an inflatable SUP with an attachable rowing set-up. Does that work well, or is it a fail? This cycling sailor is trying to figure out how to stay fit while cruising! Fair winds, Kevin and Lynn

    • @offthestarboardhull8913
      @offthestarboardhull8913  8 лет назад

      Yes, the folding prop works very well and has remained very smooth despite the barnacle build up that we have seen. We actually cut the footage of the Oar Board just to cut down on the time. If you are an experienced rower, it may be a good thing, but Scott and I have found it far too technical to do comfortably.
      Cheers,
      Laurie and Scott

    Interesting he said she said. As it wasn't even close, Maybe you can say if you would do it over again. Eg: I been SF but i have no need to ever go back; or I been to SF and can't wait to go back.
    Love the videos, more stuff about logistical things I find those things more interesting than the same tourist pictures taken by a new cameras. Enjoy the world we will be following you. Cheers!

      notlobrf we actually filmed 9 different topics, but the San Fran was the most diverse. Scott was thumbs down and I was thumbs up.
      Stay tuned for our next video when we get to consistent wifi

    Hi Scott,
    I like the new he said she said segment. In your seminar did you cover any new information or was it just a recap of the first 18 videos. Fair winds

    • @offthestarboardhull8913
      @offthestarboardhull8913  8 лет назад

      Yes, just as you thought, it would be a recap of our previous videos. When we left, we had the boat pretty much the way we wanted it, except for the air conditioning that we plan to pick up in Mexico.

    BTW, are you guys still in Santa Cruz? We are there this weekend for the SC triathlon. Would love to stop by, say hi and get Scott’s respected opinion on just a couple of equipment choices - our cat is now under construction in France! We’ve sailed in French Polynesia the last two summers and if interested, would be glad to share some incredible secret spots not in the cruising guides! Fair winds regardless! Kevin and Lynn

      Hi Kevin and Lynn -
      We are now in Monterey, not too far away by car from Santa Cruz. You are welcome to drop by here if you get the chance. We will probably be leaving to go further south early Sunday as the weather looks good then, but could see you Saturday if that works for you.

      The zincs were needing replacement on the out drives and props. We found a Yamaha dealer that had them for a good price.

    Scott if you are not allowed to use the motor how do you set the anchor?

    • @offthestarboardhull8913
      @offthestarboardhull8913  8 лет назад

      Dennis -
      When we were entering the cove, it was windy so we just dropped the anchor and with our windage, it pulled taut enough to set. It is a sandy bottom, so the holding is excellent.
      Cheers

    Excellent mostly, however, your horizon's on the human condition will alter as you encounter further exposure. Your heart is in the right space, enjoy the good and supposed bad, it will inform you well. Safe journey's lovely people................

      Thanks, Mark
      We will definitely learn more about the extremes that people endure as we go along and our tolerance will expand as our exposure increases.
      Thanks for taking the time to comment

    Have to agree with the "He Said" version. Just not my place to be....even though I lived across the bay for a couple of years. As far as the "She Said" part, I'd agree....to a point. The city is AMAZING.....the people...not so much...IMO.

      Our first draft was 50 minutes long with 9 topics for 13 minutes for the "He Said, She Said" segment. We think that 19 minutes is a more palatable option for most.
