    Hey guys! We hope you enjoyed this quick drive/review of this 2008 Lexus IS-F given to us by our good friends over at Lucky 8 Auto. With a 5.0L V8 under the hood sending power to the rear wheels, this is basically our dream sleeper sedan in this market. When the IS-F was released, it was directly targeting the BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG. How does it hold up to the stiff competition? Let's find out.

      Can you get a hold of a 2011+ model? The suspension changes make it like 8 seconds faster on some raceways, that's a metric ton of a difference.

      I've driven a 2008 and I just bought a 2011 ISF and the suspension difference is quite noticeable, along with the addition of the LSD. Not nearly as harsh or bouncy.

    This car is miles ahead of both the M3 and C63 AMG in terms of overall package. The 2011 model received a suspension revision and was faster than the AMG and tied/beat the M3 on many tracks. Plus this car is both more rare and reliable than the other cars. (btw I haven't seen one person complain about the transmission, it's even very fast without being a DCT by today's standards, plus it was way ahead of it's time as it was the world's first 8 speed transmission.

    • @CodeMonkeyUnicorns
      @CodeMonkeyUnicorns 7 лет назад +21

      I'm an ISF owner. I have tracked and raced my car. I've beaten M3 and C63s, and I've been beaten by them. At this point it's in the driver's skill and not on machine.
      The difference is my car has literally never been to the shop for anything other than oil, tires and brakes. My last bmw was in the shop half the time.
      I daily drive it and track it. It's a sports car with the reliability of a Camry. Sure it doesn't turn that many heads but it's a car you get for yourself. I don't think these will depreciate that much. My year only had 139 imported into the US. It's not that desirable car but overtime as others crash this rarity will kick in.

    In an old 2008 comparison between the C63, the M3, and the IS F the C63 went to 60 in 4.1 seconds while the M3 and IS F got there in 4.3 seconds. They tied in the quarter mile but the IS F got away with a 2 mph higher trap speed. The 2012 version outgrips the Mercedes (0.95 g) but below the M3 (0.97 g). the 2012 version tied the M3 (but outgripped it) and beat the C63 around Mt's figure-eight (M3: 24.8 seconds @ 0.76 g), (IS F: 24.8 seconds @ 0.79 g) , (C63: 24.9 seconds @ 0.78 g). The IS F was the middleweight (3817 lbs) while the M3 was the lightest (3652 lbs) and the C63 being the heaviest (4004 lbs).
    So pretty much here, you've got similar performance. Research the rest.

    Just picked up mine in October and really do love it, even if it's an 08. They are gems in the used car market when you can find them for just under $30k, and only see them once a month if that compared to M/AMG cars. Very few issues with these and they make great daily drivers. Can't beat 21mpg combined/28mpg highway, and very easy maintenance schedule. I came from owning G37's, C5 Vette, Mini, Miata, WRX and a few other cars and have to say the F is my favorite. I do miss the manual life, but the 8 speed is surprisingly good and can be as easy as an LS/ES Lexus, or as quick and hard as any DSG. Perfect blend of luxury, performance, reliability and rarity. I do wish there was a wider aftermarket, but then again there were only like 5k of these made. Backseat is pretty small as well and I do feel the looks have dated a bit, but overall a great car compared to several new sports cars. Hell it's still slightly faster than a brand new Q50/Q60RS or 5.0 and isn't any slower than a brand new GSF. Check out my exhaust vid to see a clip of mine.

    • @willthecardude6900
      @willthecardude6900 7 лет назад +3

      154k miles is barely broken in for your average car. There are 2000 tauruses with 200k on them. People act like lexus is automatically more reliable when in reality it mostly depends on how the car was taken care of. A neglected toyota won't last nearly as long as a taken care of e46.

      @willthecardude6900 7 лет назад +1

    • @alararkadas92111
      @alararkadas92111 7 лет назад +2

      +William Brown By making such statements you are comparing apples to oranges. You have to consider all things equal, including vehicle care. Not to mention, fit of the materials, quality of materials, features provided, etc.
      A lot of cars nowadays can make it to 200k miles, that is not a problem for most drivetrain. Its things like the wiring for example, that are more prone to less reliability on some makes than other.
      A 2000's Taurus has about as much wiring as a '90s Nokia phone, so there's less to break. A 2000's Mercedes can have over a dozen computers alone controlling different functions. That's what breaks.

      John Gispert it's not actually an exhaust noise at all. Secondary intake opens at about 4000rpm and that's the main noise you hear.

    Did I miss a mention about it having over 150k miles? Sure the leather is gong to be a bit worn, but who can say these things aren't reliable? I'm a big BMW guy but if I can't get a manual for my dd then this car makes more sense. No rod bearings to worry about and no crappy idrives if you look at early m cars. I think this car is one of the great bargains in initial purchase and running costs. Keep bashing haters so I can pick one up even cheaper to go with my 996! Another outstanding deal.

      Hes stated few times its km not miles...also ive had plenty of bmws with more km that have better leather. Not to knock this car if i had some side cash id getit for simple reason thatvtheyve pre much bottomed out, are rare and lexus is never putting in an NA v8 into a sedan again. This was a time when lexus was actually competing with the germans. After that they got ass raped the rcf and gsf are pathetically slower than m4 and m5.

    Although M3s and C63s are powerful and a lot more aftermarket friendly, they lack reliability which is why I chose to purchase the IS-F. I have zero issues with the car to date and it has close to 50k miles on it. It has full bolts on and makes around 410-415 whp (480-490 crank). It is definitely a lot more rare compared to its German counterpart, albeit not superior in every way, I respect the craftsmanship that went on to build this unique vehicle. Everything is of high quality and the 8-speed transmission is lightning quick. It's definitely a blast to drive and over the later years (2011+), Lexus has refined the car much more and making adjustments here and there to perfect it. Each to their own but I generally keep my vehicles around for quite some time so I did not want to go down the German road due to high repair bills.

    All the idiots saying it's not as fast as the M3 or C63. The last year ISF with its updated suspension is as good on the track as the M3 and the ISF is better handling then the C63. The ISF does not lack behind any of its competitors.
    Also in review to the video... Nobody not what this car is ? Um this car is no secret dude. Ppl know what it is by now.
    Also when this car came in 2008 it had the fastest shifting transmission in a car. This is my dream Japanese sedan.

    • @NA0533

    Sleeper yes
    M3 killer now way it handles like a boat
    C63 rival yes it's a high speed cruiser
    The GSF & RCF are the evolution of this ISF but it's still no LFA that fkn V10 was glorious Lexus/Toyota holding it down with the NA V8 motors still so my hats off to them

      Just to let you know at VIR the ISF set a time of 3:05.4 in 2016 RCF 3:05.8 and GSF 3:05.9. The ISF has only sport mode that's it. While both RCF and GSF have more hp/tq, they both have torque vectoring diffs, adjustable suspension several driving modes including track mode. So two cars that have 10yr advantage in new tech and can't utterly destroy it's older sibling like F80 did to E90 M cars.

    • @ItsMikeArre
      @ItsMikeArre 7 лет назад

      David Cruz true but even all those Lexus with the F badge couldn't beat the Ford Focus RS time of 3.04 @ VIR just remember they are big heavy sedans they can only go so fast b4 having to break and go into a corner

    • @TheDavcrz5
      @TheDavcrz5 7 лет назад

      Mike that's such interesting response you were talking about M3, RCF GSF comparing it to ISF. I was able to show you how ISF was on par with M3 and faster than RCF AND GSF at VIR. So in order to prove some point you bring Focus RS time and say how it's faster than those 3 heavy lexus cars running 3:04 it better be faster with awd 350hp/350tq and weighs 400lbs + less with torque vectoring left to right as well as front to back. There are several cars that have less hp and weigh less that have faster times than 3 lexus cars and E90's M3. The M2 3:01, Caymen S the Boxter Spyder all had faster times than Lexus, BMW E90 M3 and Focus RS. So I don't under why even bring up RS when we were discussing E90 M3, RCF and GSF. Oh the 1/4 mile times for stock RS run between 13:01 to 13:04 where as ISF and M3 are in low to mid 12's RCF in mid 12's and GSF in high 12's low 13's.

    • @ItsMikeArre
      @ItsMikeArre 7 лет назад

      David Cruz only reason the isf is faster around VIR is bc it's like 500 pounds lighter then a GSF & RCF even tho both those models have about 50hp more witch is in about the same as the focus RS and the reason I bring the RS up is simply to show u that u don't need more power to make a better lap time u need balance and a chassis to handle the power ur engine does put out and just like u said the Lexus and the m3 run low 12-13 1/4 mile that's what those cars where built for autobahn cruising not track days even tho they are capable of performing on a track
