I’ve learned more from old men in a garage drinking a beer than I ever did in a classroom. Thanks to all the men sharing their insight over the years 👏 🤙
You’re ok going negative to the negative terminal and THEN switching on the power. His concern applies if you’re using jumper cables from another car battery, where voltage is always present and you could get a spark. With a jumper box, voltage isn’t going through the cable until you turn it on.
I like your style Poppy! My landlord just gifted me this power station........what a great gift for a blue collar guy........or for any collar actually!
One small correction, I understand it’s a cya thing and a just in case but with that unit you are perfectly okay with attaching negative to the negative side of the battery, the reason why is because there is no potential for spark since the switch is in the off position, if the negative clamp is securely fastened to the negative on the battery, you’ll be totally fine when you turn the jumper on boost mode and start your car. When jumping car to car I completely understand why you wouldn’t want to do that as there is no switch in between power sources.
My buddy's got one of these. We always bring it with us camping (not backpacking for obvious reasons) and it's saved us more than once. I really gotta buy one for myself one of these days. Also, my dad drinks the same beer as you lol
My son has had his for 3 years. He uses it all the time for jumping, and airing tires. (His own vehicles, and damsels in distress) Still works great so far.
I have this one and it’s been great, but definitely bulky and heavy. I wonder how this compares in performance to the newer CAT Lithium Power Station PPSCL3 from Costco? Checked it out and it is tiny and very lightweight in comparison.
How do you turn it off 'well I know first you go get the biggest sledgehammer you can find and then hit the top of the portable starter as hard as you can for about 10 times ''and if this doesn't work try buying 1 gallon of petrol and pour it on the top of the starter and be careful stand well back and throw a lot match at it and this should shut it down
Is it ok to leave this in the car on a permanent basis even in hot or cold weather? Since I won't know when my battery will go dead or tires will be under pressure it is nice to know you have this on hand while on the road. thx
Just wondering I recently plugged something into the outlet when I turned it on the AC and and a little triangle started flashing. I was wondering If there was a way to stop that and make the outlet work again
I appreciate your video - I ALMOST bought this but after watching both videos I have gone with the Michelin XR1, I will have it delivered Friday. Thanks, Dr Wrench!
Great review! 👍👌 I also have one and I haven’t even opened it yet. But I’ve read that if you’re wanting to air up something a little bit more heavy duty you should Jack up the car or truck first then air it up to what you need to. Relieves some of that weight and it’s not so hard on the machine. 👍
This is true but keep in mind that the air compressor is not made for extended running times, not sure what size tire you’re airing up but you might want to let the compressor cool after about 5 minutes of use. Hope this helps and thanks for viewing.
OMG sorry for not catching and replying back to you 😱 My guess it’s shut off by now 😂😂 The unit shuts off after about 10 seconds of not being used, neat feature.
Hey poppy I had a question about this unit, to charge it you plug it in where the plastic piece on the back pulls out and then plug it in right? I just used mine after doing the first 40 hour first charge and went to put a Lil air in my tire and the battery symbol was going down while I was charging, just wondering what your thoughts were on that or maybe if yours does the same thing
He literally says dont put positive on postive and negative on negative. Then he says that you do? Besides on jump starters it dont matter. Because when the connections are on the battery and you turn on the jump starter. If the cables are wrong, the jump starter will let you knw
I recently bought me one and I still don’t know how to turn off. It always turns off by itself, hopefully in the manual I can find out. Just haven’t had time to check it out.
Nope, it has the following features: 1, Jump start, 2, Air compressor, 3, Three USB ports, 4, 115-120 AC Power, 5, LED lights. Pretty nifty unit for the price. SORRY it took so long to get back to you but I’ve been going through some medical issues.
Hopeful someone on here can help. We just bought one of these and when we attached the positive to the + side of the battery and attached the negative to the part of our truck but when we turn the CAT jumper on we are getting an alarm indicator ⚠️ 👈 like this but we can’t figure out why. Anyone know? Any help is appreciated. Thank you 🙏
1 question... if my alternator goes bad if i jump start the car can i keep running my car of this portible power so the car won't turn off (like now when my alternator went bad I got another battery thru jumping cables to drive my car to the shop.....................
Sorry for the delay, NO WAY can you use this unit that way, it too, like the battery in your vehicle needs to be charged, besides, not a safe thing to do.
When you hook a battery charger up to a battery to charge it goes positive negative so it doesn't matter whether it's in a vehicle or not you don't know what you're talking about Buddy
So I just bought this same booster but everytime I connect it the car and I unplugg my booster it show the battery is dead and on the little screen it blinks the engine light the two positive and black connection with a little hazard sign...I dont know what it means and I dont think that the booster has no batter because I just charge it
When you disconnect it you must leave the car running to charge the battery for, at least, 30 minutes. The unit itself only starts the engine, you must let the alternator charge the battery for you.
He’s 100% correct about leaving the engine run at least a half hour to fully charge your battery. I do want to add that if your having to jump your battery every day or other day, you’ll need to get your battery loud tested it could have a bad cell or two. Also please note that if your getting anywhere between 3-4 years on a vehicles battery, maybe 5 if you lucky, or if it’s within this time frame and need to jump it more often, you might want to think about purchasing a new battery, unfortunately they don’t last forever.
Thanks for getting back at me I think I explained myself wrong😁 my problem is with the booster when take off the negative and positive on the little screen it has it shows like the booster is dead....maybe I use it wrong? Because I turned it on and then connected the cable to the car battery ...or I should first connect the positive and negative and then turn on the cat booster?
I want to explain something that you may or may not know and not to many people jump start a vehicle the tight way. When you clamp the RED clamp of the jump start unit (positive) to the positive terminal on your battery (batteries are marked with a + sign and the positive post is larger than the negative in diameter), and the black clamp of the jumpstart
Sorry about this, I have fat fingers LOL Unit should be clamped to a metal part close to the battery (such as a bolt or bar metal that’s not painted), the reason for not clamping the negative (black clamp) to your battery post is this, when batteries die they emit hydrogen fumes and they’re flammable and can cause your battery to explode 🤯 in your face if you were to cause an arc or a spark ⚡️, I know a lot of people clamp directly to the battery posts (not me, I know better), but they’re really taking a chance in getting seriously injured. I’m only putting this out to you and anyone who reads this because YOU NEED TO JUMPSTART IN A SAFE MANNER, I DON’T WANT ANYONE GETTING HURT! QUESTIONS???...😉
You should clamp negative first then positive then in reverse. If you clamp positive first and lay the negation on anything ground you’ll have a surprise
If you try to inflate a tire requiring much more than 35 psi, like an RV tire, you will fry the little compressor motor. If you try to run a CPAP machine on the inverter, with humidifier, battery may not last overnight. Follow the instructions on charging and keep battery charged. These things are basically a 12 volt 18 amp hour-rated ,sealed led acid battery in a plastic case. Battery gradually looses it's capacity over time. Don't believe
Nowhere that i can find in the manual does it explain what a flashing "jump starter icon" means. I got that today when the fully charged unit failed to get my tractor to "turn over". It's for situations like this that i purchased this item so quite frustrating that it wasn't up to the task. On a side note, the cost of this unit is over $200 on amazon so not sure if the price has doubled in the 1.5 years since he made this video or what.
@@AmericanMayan i'm not a costco member but if this is a typical example of the price spread between them and amazon, maybe it'd be worth the membership?
At first I loved this thing. I used the compressor to pump up the tires on the work truck (about 50psi) but after doing this maybe 10 times total. The compressor quit. I took it apart and found the plastic gear on the head of the compressor was stripped so it wouldn’t grab and move the piston to create air pressure. Very disappointed to see Cat put their name on such a cheaply built product. The entire compressor component inside is made from some kind of light metal but for whatever reason the gear that makes the whole thing possible is made out of plastic. Terrible design that was never built to last
Really, I hope you returned it to Costco. Look at it this way, if your an “Executive Member” and you return it, buy another, that’s at least 2% back on your purchases, if you do that enough times, you’ll eventually get one free 👍🏻😂😂😂

The great part about this it’s because if it breaks just take it back. It’s Costco!

Where does the extension cord get stored in the CAT Jump Starter?
Extension cord as in #15 on the back of the box.

I successfully inflated my tires😊 but one question how do I turn the power off? It’s fully charged, and now I just want to turn it off .
The unit will shut off by itself, like it goes to sleep.
I would recharge it after every use
Leave it on the 12.4v screen. it should turn off automatically. A.C. screen stays on forever on mine.
